Many have asked if they could help with Governor's Richardson's presence and speech at the California Democratic Party Convention this coming weekend (I know, it is really early!!). We have a booth that with a large flat screen tv to play the Governor's speeches and the new ads, people attending the various interest caucuses and handing out literature and standing up for the Governor, and are planning a big splash on the convention floor prior to the Governor's speech. Here is where we need your help before Wednesday evening, and you won't even have to leave the comfort of your home. We need to call the 2800 delegates, and ask them if they are supporting the Governor; and if so would they be able to help with the booth, in the caucuses, hold a sign on the floor, etc.

I will provide you with the names and numbers, talking points on the Governor, and a few issues, and a sample "script" to help you. I say "sample" because we want you to convey the Governor's style, which is not canned, but just like he is sitting across from you in your living room. You can make this fun! We have already knocked off 200 names of elected officials and people we don't have phone numbers, and another 600 who have already been called. We only have 2000 names left, and that doesn't take very long, especially if 20 people would step up and volunteer.

If you are interested and available, email me at californiaforrichardson@gmail.com  and we will send you names and numbers, as well as the information you need. Let me know how many hours you can devote, and we will adjust the number of names I send you accordingly.

Thanks for all your help

Su servidor,

David Buchanan

Governor Bill Richardson is the first candidate who has the courage to make a statement in support of HR 1434.  Please join him and notify your Congressman to vote in support of this important piece of legislation.  We can not let the Republicans deny our fundamental right of having representation in Congress.

Below is the approved statement from the Governor:

I am proud to support HR 1433, the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2007 , that will grant the District of Columbia a voting member in the United States House of Representatives.
It is long overdue that the over half million, tax-paying, and patriotic citizens of Washington, DC receive the same representation in our Congress as those living in the states.

Catch the Governor's comments on his successful trip to North Korea, jumpstarting the nuclear non-proliferation talks, and his candidacy.

Last night, during the Town Hall sponsored by MoveOn.org and the SEIU, Governor Richardson spoke clearly and concisely, without equivocation, as to how the United States can have a realistic response to the greatest security and foreign policy blunder of this or any other century:

Here's my position on Iraq and it's not on the one hand on the other hand, benchmarks, etc... if I were President today, I would withdraw American troops by the end of this calendar year. I would have no residual force whatsoever. What I would do coupled with that withdrawal, using the leverage of an American withdrawal of forces, would be to convene two very strong diplomatic initiatives, two diplomatic conferences. One, in a US-led effort to get the three entities, the three religious groups, the three sects, the Sunni, the Shia, the Kurds... to put them in a room and I would say, there's gonna be a coalition government, you're gonna divide up oil revenues, you're gonna divide up ministries, cabinet ministries, there's gonna be three entities in Iraq, based on the Dayton Accords. And what I would do is have an Iraqi central government. Hopefully that would be Iraq's future political structure...

Tonight, many of us participated in MoveOn.org's Town Hall on Iraq.  This was an historica event, and it gave a glimpse of the power of the Internet in shaping public opinion.  In effect, under current debate formats, this was akin to a debate.  It certainly gave us the ability to compare the candidates and their views on Iraq.

I attended a lively town hall with over 30 people in a home.  As we gathered around a bank of computers, I was amazed at how many people were taking notes.  I found out later that almost 80% of the people there had not made up their minds as to who they wanted to support.  There was some sentimental support for the Congressman from Ohio, as the "peace candidate"; but it went no further than sentiment.  The Kucinich folks even stated they supported the Congressman but would be voting for someone else, wanting their vote to count for someone who could at least reach the 15% proportional threshhold in California.

I have heard that phrase all of my life, although in less gender sensitive days, it was always framed with a masculine object. Growing up in a family where we were focused on two subjects - politics and football (Yes, I am from the South!) - it's easy to see how this phrase constantly was a part of our daily lives. Fast forward now to 2007-2008, and the Presidential Primary that is more important than ever for our Party and our Nation, and that phrase takes on a more urgent meaning.

May the best person win - Who has the resume to deal with both domestic issues and foreign policy? Who understand the consequences of carbon emissions and global warming and can craft a national initiative to bring us to peace with the environment? Who has called for the country to get out of Iraq this year?   Read More »
