Thank GOODNESS Democrats took the HOUSE and SENATE!! Perhaps PROOF there IS a GOD???
LOL! Anyway, I'm much calmer now. Looking forward to 08's win!!!
It's currently running at CCN and KOS so I've decided to add it here as well.
Who would you like to see as President in 08
I only put it back up today so the numbers are new.

VOTES and/or
past RECORD of VOTES
have they been bribed or coerced to vote against their conscience on MORE than a dozen occasions? Than their principals can't be of that much importance to them. Otherwise they ARE accountable!
Biden, Edwards, Kerry are no worse than most that have stayed too long! And I like Biden. (I know Edwards is no longer in the Senate but that's only cuz he tried running for office already and failed)
The old guard needs to push NEW blood. Maybe a General like CLARK or a Governor like Richardson, but Senators (unless new rock stars like Obama) will always be held to task for their choices!
As should we all! jmo
not sure what would be worse..... voting for someone who's past votes were totally WRONG more often than they were RIGHT
or
voting for someone who has only voted with the tide and rarely with his OWN (or her own) conscience! Unless they are void of conscience and those are usually easy to spot!
Also we have a very slim margin in our favor in the Senate. I don't want to lose any PRESENT Senators to a possible Republican counterpart! We need MORE Democrat Senators not less!

Pelosi: Dems will not cut off Iraq funding
(Roxie can you read dear???)
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday Democrats will not cut off funding for the war in Iraq, despite indicating earlier that she will not give President Bush a "blank check" to fund a U.S. troop surge in the war-torn country.
"I'm going to be very clear: Democrats will not cut off funding for our troops," Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill. "But the president needs to know -- and that's what I was telling him yesterday -- ... that congressional oversight is alive and well."
On CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday, Pelosi said, "If the president wants to add to this mission, he is going to have to justify it. And this is new for him because up until now the Republican Congress has given him a blank check with no oversight, no standards, no conditions."

Bush Iraq Approval at 23%
ROFLMAO! yea dawg 23 percent makeS you the WORST of the WORST!
A new CBS News poll finds 68% who say they are optimistic about the new Democratic Congress, versus only 25% who feel the opposite. Meanwhile, support for President Bushs policies in Iraq was measured at just 23%, with his overall approval rating at 30%. By a wide margin, respondents said that the war was the top priority they wanted addressed by Congress, though only small numbers believed that either Bush or the new congressional majority have any clear plans.

This is a link to a site called Rapid Fire! I found on WES CLARK for anyone that wants a quick update of links and quotes, beliefs, etc for the most LOGICAL candidate for 08 out there!
Here's a snip - for anyone that thinks he may NOT be a progressive democrat..... they are wrongo!!
Clark's '04 tax proposals; his stance on singlepayer health care; his education benefit proposals for lower and higher education ($6,000 for first two years of college to those of families making under $150,000 and universal pre-school system--not tax credits)proposals;
his renewal energy stance and work on Global Warming, his '04 primary endorsement by various gay and minority groups,
his public calls for the fairness doctrine to be reinstated;
his work on fair and secure election via his podcast programs;
his fight for Affirmative Action via written support via Supreme Court case;
his Aids program proposal touted by Jesse Jackson;
his work on Rwanda, Kosovo and Darfur against Genocide;
his stance against going into Iraq starting in 2002; his public claim to the word "Liberal" on national teevee,
his televised defense of Michael Moore via the right to Free Speech when no one else would;
his public discussions and denouncements of PNAC/Neocons in print and electronic media;
his tireless work for Democrats in the 2004 and 2006 elections;
his making it known that military budgetary items would be "on the table" for cutting if he were to be elected as President;
his announcing we should be working to install a counterprevailing institution to the Military Industrial Complex via a similar organization as Kucinich's Peace Department

Scientists say it is the largest event of its kind in 30 years and point their fingers at climate change as a major contributing factor.

Ancient ice shelf snaps and breaks free from the Canadian Arctic STEVE LILLEBUEN (CP) - A giant ice shelf the size of 11,000 football fields has snapped free from Canada's Arctic, leaving a trail of icy boulders floating in its wake.
The mass of ice broke clear from the coast of Ellesmere Island, about 800 kilometres south of the North Pole. Warwick Vincent of Laval University, who studies Arctic conditions, travelled to the newly formed ice island and couldn't believe what he saw. "It was extraordinary," Vincent said Thursday, adding that in 10 years of working in the region he has never seen such a dramatic loss of sea ice.
"This is a piece of Canadian geography that no longer exists."
The collapse was so powerful that earthquake monitors 250 kilometres away picked up tremors from it...........more....
AND ALL I CAN DO IS JUST SIGHHHHH SADLY. TOO MUCH IGNORANCE OUT THERE RUNNING THIS COUNTRY. (FOR NOW) ;-)

General Clark MAY throw his hat in soon!
This view of Clark is given by Samantha Power, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of "A Problem from Hell: America in the Age of Genocide." Power is the executive director of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
In her book, written before Clark entered politics, Power credited him with saving the lives of 1.3 million Albanians. She gives a more plausible explanation for Clark's removal from Europe than Shelton does, and her opinion of Clark's character and integrity more than outweigh Shelton's.
At Clark's press conference last week upon his return from the Milosevic trial, Power introduced Clark as someone who led an intervention in genocide for the first and only time in US history. Alluding to Washington politics, she said Clark was "willing to own something that was very unfashionable at the time." She notes in her book (again, written before Clark entered politics) that this personal sacrifice caused Clark to suffer his early retirement at the hands of Washington bureaucrats.
The following excerpts from Powers book give the details. The narrative surrounding the quotes was written by another person commenting on the book. Note especially Power's last comment on Clark's pariah status in Washington:
"General Clark is one of the heroes of Samantha Power's book. She introduces him on the second page of her chapter on Rwanda and describes his distress on learning about the genocide there and not being able to contact anyone in the Pentagon who really knew anything about it and/or about the Hutu and Tutsi. She writes, "He frantically telephoned around the Pentagon for insight into the ethnic dimension of events in Rwanda. Unfortunately, Rwanda had never been of more than marginal concern to Washington's most influential planners" (p. 330) .
He advocated multinational action of some kind to stop the genocide. "Lieutenant General Wesley Clark looked to the White House for leadership. 'The Pentagon is always going to be the last to want to intervene,' he says. 'It is up to the civilians to tell us they want to do something and we'll figure out how to do it.' But with no powerful personalities or high-ranking officials arguing forcefully for meaningful action, midlevel Pentagon officials held sway, vetoing or stalling on hesitant proposals put forward by midlevel State Department and NSC officials" (p. 373).
According to Power, General Clark was already passionate about humanitarian concerns, especially genocide, before his appointment as Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces in Europe. When genocide began to occur in the Balkans, he was determined to stop it.
She details his efforts in behalf of the Dayton Peace Accords and his brilliant command of NATO forces in Kosovo. Her chapter on Kosovo ends, "The man who probably contributed more than any other individual to Milosvevic's battlefield defeat was General Wesley Clark. The NATO bombing campaign succeeded in removing brutal Serb police units from Kosovo, in ensuring the return on 1.3 million Kosovo Albanians, and in securing for Albanians the right of self-governance."
and btw, no U.S. troops were killed in this campaign! Proving once again that Wes Clark is the only LOGICAL answer to what ails this nation! WATCH for his getting in the race soon! (fingers crossed) There are no others as qualified, imo.

Disappearing world: Global warming claims tropical island
For the first time, an inhabited island has disappeared beneath rising seas. Environment Editor Geoffrey Lean reports
Published: 24 December 2006
Rising seas, caused by global warming, have for the first time washed an inhabited island off the face of the Earth. The obliteration of Lohachara island, in India's part of the Sundarbans where the Ganges and the Brahmaputra rivers empty into the Bay of Bengal, marks the moment when one of the most apocalyptic predictions of environmentalists and climate scientists has started coming true.
As the seas continue to swell, they will swallow whole island nations, from the Maldives to the Marshall Islands, inundate vast areas of countries from Bangladesh to Egypt, and submerge parts of scores of coastal cities.
Eight years ago, as exclusively reported in The Independent on Sunday, the first uninhabited islands - in the Pacific atoll nation of Kiribati - vanished beneath the waves. The people of low-lying islands in Vanuatu, also in the Pacific, have been evacuated as a precaution, but the land still juts above the sea. The disappearance of Lohachara, once home to 10,000 people, is unprecedented.
It has been officially recorded in a six-year study of the Sunderbans by researchers at Calcutta's Jadavpur University. So remote is the island that the researchers first learned of its submergence, and that of an uninhabited neighbouring island, Suparibhanga, when they saw they had vanished from satellite pictures.
Two-thirds of nearby populated island Ghoramara has also been permanently inundated. Dr Sugata Hazra, director of the university's School of Oceanographic Studies, says "it is only a matter of some years" before it is swallowed up too. Dr Hazra says there are now a dozen "vanishing islands" in India's part of the delta. The area's 400 tigers are also in danger.
Until now the Carteret Islands off Papua New Guinea were expected to be the first populated ones to disappear, in about eight years' time, but Lohachara has beaten them to the dubious distinction.
Human cost of global warming: Rising seas will soon make 70,000 people homeless
Refugees from the vanished Lohachara island and the disappearing Ghoramara island have fled to Sagar, but this island has already lost 7,500 acres of land to the sea. In all, a dozen islands, home to 70,000 people, are in danger of being submerged by the rising seas.

P Diddy rapped for selling coats made from dog pelts

Price of fur: Dogs are skinned alive
The raccoon dogs killed to line the hoods of Sean John coats are bred mainly in China, where fur farmers hold about four million of their pelts. They are so named because of their resemblance to the smaller furry mammal, although they are only distantly related. Animal welfare campaigners say many of the dogs are stunned and then skinned while still alive.
Ok I'm a CAT owner and lover but even THIS made me ill! I've owned dogs in the past and can't IMAGINE this by someone who is supposed to be so "enlightened" and "progressive" as P.Diddy.

An interesting bit of history that I was not totally aware of but very glad to now know the mechanics of the DNC's evolution. And how Dr. Dean became our GREAT Chair!!
I hope you find it interesting as well!
The Next Hurrah
~snip~
When Dean took over the DNC -- this was the condition of about twelve of our State Parties. He actually had to find lawyers to go into court and get the parties out of this kind of "Trusteeship" before he could even begin to reorganize. In fact, one of the reasons some of the Field Organizers Dean appointed are on the staff of the DNC rather than state parties is because it avoids dealing with old trustees and old court judgments.
The really sad thing is that Democrats all around the country don't know about all this -- about how the party structure was sabotaged essentially over the matter of race over a long stretch of years. By not actually dealing with the matter -- and it should have been argued out and dealt with in at least the 1970's -- it has festered, and now we have this assumption by James Carville that he is the great white master, who can dictate the structure of the DNC, including which African American should head it as opposed to Dean, or whom ever else the properly constituted DNC should elect.

Walmart has a smear out on John Edwards
I felt I should post this here even though J Edwards is not my first, second or even third choice for our next president. (wesclark, algore,jackmurtha)
I still feel this is unfair.

Wal-Mart has a smear out on John Edwards. What is striking about the smear is the way a corporation feels free to publicize something that a customer did, and to use it as a flat-out, blatant, organized smear campaign. It is starting to appear on all the usual right-wing outlets, and may soon be as widespread as the pre-election Kerry "insulted the troops" smear.
