What we now need to do as a party.

Check it out.

Never forget.
For all of his would be dem and indep women cross over voters/supporters, stay informed and don't be duped:

"If I am fortunate enough to be elected as the next President of the United States, I pledge to you to be a loyal and unswerving friend of the right to life movement." [Statement by Sen. McCain read by Sen. Sam Brownback at the March for Life in Washington, DC, January 22, 2008.

From the NRAL:

* Voted anti-choice 125 out of 130 times in his congressional career.
* Consistently voted to restrict access to abortion care.
* Voted against measures to prevent unintended pregnancy.
* Voted for the global gag rule, which prohibits federally funded family-planning clinics from giving women full information about their reproductive-health options.
* Voted for and co-sponsored the Federal Abortion Ban.
* Voted in favor of anti-choice Supreme Court Justices like Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas and Chief Justices like John Roberts.
Why is it that even given PREPARED speech, Dubya can't figure out how to correct an obvious mistake in text.

What a ding bat and McCain is his protege'.

An excerpt from his speech yesterday:

"That future will be a dramatic departure from the Middle East of today. So as we mark 60 years from Israel's founding, let us envision the region 60 years from now. This vision will not arrive easily or overnight, and it will encounter violent resistance from our enemies. But if we and future Presidents and Knessets maintain our resolve and have faith in our ideals, here is the Middle East we can see:

Israel will be celebrating its 120th anniversary as one of the world's great democracies, a secure and flourishing homeland for the Jewish people."

ITS 60 YEARS DING BAT! 60 NOT 120.
Hillary has already stepped up today:

*********************
(CNN) -- Hillary Clinton on Wednesday reiterated her vow to stay in the Democratic presidential race, but she said it would be a "terrible mistake" for her supporters to vote for John McCain over Barack Obama.

Sen. Hillary Clinton vowed to stay in the race, saying she's "not going anywhere."

"Anybody who has ever voted for me or voted for Barack has much more in common in terms of what we want to see happen in our country and in the world with the other than they do with John McCain," Clinton said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

"I'm going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is. Obviously, I'm still hoping to be that nominee, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me ... understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Sen. Obama."
*******************************

Does this mean nothing to her supporters?

I know HRC's supporters are beyond upset and frustration.

But, as I have said before, she has no intention of leaving the party or counter voting.

She knows that there are 17.5 million people that support her and will listen to her.

She will try her best to lead her supporters in the right direction people. Period. End of discussion.

Any less, would give the perception that she contradicts her commitment to the party and it's platform.

No she has not conceded, but she knows what needs to happen to move the dem party forward. She is no fool.

I don't for one minute believe her supporters are either.

I expect to see HRC right here in NC supporting our Senatorial candidate Kay Hagan. We plan on giving Libby Dole a pair of ruby slippers and sending her on her way.
From CNN:

Clinton: It'd be 'terrible mistake' to pick McCain over Obama.

Eye on the Senate: Dem Opponent Catching up to Dole in N.C.
May 12, 2008 2:13 PM

North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole may be hearing foot steps behind her as two polls show her Democratic challenger, Kay Hagan, a five term member of the state senate, closing the gap between them. Public Policy Polling has Dole ahead by 48 percent to 43 percent compared to the 17 point lead she had in February. The survey was conducted May 8-9 and has a margin of error of 4 percent. Rasmussen Reports yesterday released a poll conducted May 8 that showed Hagan ahead of Dole, although by a statistically insignificant 48 percent to 47 percent. A month earlier, Dole had a 13 point lead in this poll
Our dem presidential nominee - for the dems - THIS YEAR - DEFEAT IS NOT - AN - OPTION.

Time to take the gloves off and stop playing around with something so serious.

If we want to win the WH and turn this country around, we have to not let ourselves defeated from within.

No more enemy "in me". Every HRC supporter I meet I am going to start politely asking them to talk to me about their concerns and how we can heal this rift.

some wish it would happen,

others make it happen."

Reaching out to a relative that is from WV, I asked him some specific questions about the demographics of state and their voting history in prior elections.

I was more or less surprised to learn these facts that I'd like to share:

West Virginia is home to nearly 60,000 African Americans,The largest contemporary African American populations are in the Metro Valley in the vicinity of Charleston and Huntington.

West Virginia has numerous thriving Jewish communities.

There are thought to be approximately 5,000 Native Americans in West Virginia.

I read through all of this and said, ok, it's about what I expected.... until   Read More »
The old arguments and crazy racist, sexist talk has started right back up.

It's like we are stuck in a time warp or worm hole.

One half - begging the other half to stay and throwing olive branch after olive branch.

Only to have it slung back by proxy in a later post.

What is wrong guys?

Is it always going to be this hard to have a civil intelligent discussion about what we are afraid of without believe in lies and unresearched internet tales?

I can't believe that things are so impossible and far gone - that we can not get through this.

The most peaceful time on this blog was last night. No quarrels or battles - nothing as back to square one as some have taken it to on this blog just today.

If the continued primarys are going to keep throwing salt in wounds and tuning everyone back up, then the supers may as well step in now and just call the end game.

They no doubt feel this climate and would have hoped we'd work it out on our own, but we can't or we just plain won't. Because we are not reasonable or flexible.

The supers are now part of the process and they will see it through to the end.

Why? Because we can not discuss facts and issues, without bringing up the demons and baggages of either candidate.

Sorry- just had to vent.
Another reason to not vote for this guy:

From Matt at Think Progress.org - great analysis:

"Last month, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) skipped the vote on the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which would have made it easier for women and other workers to pursue pay discrimination claims. At the time, McCain explained his opposition to the bill by saying that instead of equal pay protection, women simply needed “education and training.“ Asked about his opposition to the bill at a townhall today, McCain told a 14-year old girl that he didn’t think protections for equal pay would do “anything to help the rights of women“:

McCain singled out a 14-year old woman who questioned why he opposes eliminating the statute of limitations on lawsuits over workplace discrimination, arguing it amounted to opposing “equal rights for women.”

“If you eliminate the statutes of limitations, and you make it unending, you may be violating the rights of the individuals who are being sued, whether they’re a man or a woman,” the senator responded. “I don’t think you’re doing anything to help the rights of women, except maybe help trial lawyers and others in that profession.”

McCain has a long record of failure on women’s issues, earning him a 0 percent rating from NARAL ProChoice America six years in a row, from 2001-2007."

"Voter ID Battle Shifts to Proof of Citizenship"

"By IAN URBINA
Published: May 12, 2008
The battle over voting rights will expand this week as lawmakers in Missouri are expected to support a proposed constitutional amendment to enable election officials to require proof of citizenship from anyone registering to vote."

"By: Steve Benen on Saturday, May 10th, 2008 at 6:03 AM - PDT

A couple of weeks ago, John McCain talked about the importance of increasing the size of the U.S. military. To entice more volunteers, he said, the government should focus on incentives: “[O]ne of the things we ought to do is provide [the troops with] significant educational benefits in return for serving.”

A few days later, McCain announced that he opposes a bipartisan measure to renew and expand the GI Bill for a new generation of veterans. Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.), the leading proponent of the modernized GI Bill, called McCain out."

From Politico.com:

"GOP getting crushed in polls, key races.

John McCain is planning to run as a different kind of Republican. But being any kind of Republican seems like some sort of death sentence these days."

Can an HRC supporter please tell me how it benefits HRC to vote against her party if she is not the nominee?

She is not leaving the party and has not threatened too.

So why are you leaving her?

I thought you guys respected and admired her so much that you'd follow her example. You have been all along, so now why would YOU her devoted supporters turn your back on her on?

What if, by your actions of party dividing, it went down in the history books that HRC and those that supported her split the party and gave the WH to repubs out of sheer spite.

Doubt that she'd want THAT label or black cloud hanging over the rest of her politcal career.

One thing I give HRC, she's not a quitter and she doesn't give up simply because things aren't going her way all the time. That's obvious.

She has NEVER threatened to leave the dem party or move abroad either. Statements like that are divisive and immature.

Sure I entertained the thought of abstaining if Barack were not the nominee, but what the heck good would that do me?? Another 4 years of a repub admin who's views, platform, and self righteous rhetoric, I strongly oppose. I may be somethings, but I am no fool.

That quality of commitment HRC is demonstrating by staying in this primary until the end is diminished by the very one's SHE states she's doing it all for in the first place.
If Barack gets the nomination we all know HRC will support him - thats a given.

We are coming to this issue that her supporters will not.

Well, if that's the case for her supporters, than there is probably nothing that HRC can say at this point to make you stay.

But look at this way, you leave, you get nothing or you get McCanister, you stay and have Barack and we still have HRC. Either way - the dem party still wins and those that defect lose.

The choice is yours.
Since we are still going back and forth with our in-fighting.

Let's digress awhile and discuss the true opposition.

John McCanister. We all know about Hagee's fire and brimstone damn it all to hell sermons, and now we have Parsley.

Now bear in mind these guys are preachers, not politicians and with that they are entitled to radical and provacative opinions and the one they support, nor the congregations they preach their philosophy to, may not be held accountable.

After all, since when has a minister ever been wrong and who are we to judge them? (satire on)   Read More »
Then perhaps let's start from the top and work it down.

USA TODAY -- Clinton says Obama's support among "hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again:" In an interview Wednesday with USA TODAY, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said that she would be the stronger nominee because she appeals to a wider coalition of voters -- including whites who have not supported Barack Obama in recent contests. "I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article that she said "found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me." Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said Clinton's statements " are not true and frankly disappointing." Here's an audio clip from the Clinton interview with USA TODAY's Kathy Kiely:

****************

Because some think this is old news:

Steve Benen at the liberal Carpetbagger Report writes that "Clinton has done well with white 'hard-working' Americans, especially in states like Pennsylvania. But her argument is premised on the notion that White Joe Six Pack who votes in a Democratic primary would rather support a Republican than Obama. Where's the proof to bolster this claim? There isn't any."

AND

• Alex Koppelman at the liberal Salon.com's War Room blog writes that "while it's true that Obama trails behind Clinton in winning support from white working-class voters, it's not as if he's getting no support from that group whatsoever. Clinton, on the other hand, has almost no support left from African-American voters.

His new ad only tells half the story of what his health proposal could mean for U.S. workers.
Summary
McCain says in a new TV ad: "Let's give every American family a $5,000 refundable tax credit" to buy health insurance.

Sounds good. But McCain failed to mention how existing employer-sponsored health benefits would be affected.

• Workers would be taxed on the value of any employer-paid health benefits, partially offsetting the $5,000 credit for those now covered by such plans.

• Experts say a tax credit plan like this would likely cause companies to reduce or eliminate health benefits for their employees.

The aim of the McCain plan is to reduce health care costs through increased competition, by encouraging individuals to shop around for health insurance and medical care. There are many who favor such an approach, and we take no position on it one way or the other. But McCain's simplistic ad misleads viewers by promising to give "every American family" a $5,000 benefit while failing to mention what he would also take away.
Analysis
As it begins to look as though HRC will not be the nominee, I say to those on PB that support and voted for Barack to please respect HRC enough to concede with dignity.

If we were in the position where Barack had to concede, would we not want the HRC supporters to allow him to do so graciously and encourage us to fuse together for the common good of the party and the country?

Of course we should and of course he would.

I have heard the nonsense that the "black" vote would never leave the "democratic plantation". That is completely ignorant nonsense.

I don't intend to leave the party, and definetly not for the reason stated by the narrowminded bigot quoted above in this post.

I am confident that we will unite. Some will unite for the sake of the party platform and others will unite albeit kicking and screaming for the same.

We will get there. Stay confident, stay focused and stay together.

Have a great day guys and thanks for listening.
