Freedom of Speech
About the Author
Democracy is about speaking your mind and creating dialogue that perpetuates freedom and keeps people honest. That's what makes this country great, and we should do whatever it takes to keep it that way.
He will be one of the new and young faces in the NY Assembly for the 2009 session. He is energetic, compassionate and more importantly, he brings a new perspective to an old institution with old habits.
Nelson Castro has been dedicated to his community performing every task from the most important to the most menial with pride and fortitude. I ask you to support him because alongside many of us he has worked in the Heights, the Bronx and around the city in many good fights from Rent Protections to helping Seniors to healthcare and youth programs he has been there fighting alongside us. As a student he took the time to gain insight into important political issues affecting his community and our nation when many were consumed by the lure of college life.
In his professional life he took jobs where he focused on helping young people and seniors, particularly in the area of healthcare. In that field he excelled focusing on insuring that every child he ran into was enrolled in the state Child Health Plus Program and that every senior was clear on their choices under the state run healthcare initiative or Family Health Plus. He has helped to form tenant associations when landlords went to far and joined the fight for community development when we needed to increase economic development dollars for our community. He knows what it is to fight for advancement as he did that for himself fighting to finish his studies and break the chains that tied him to poverty. He is a real success story that merits our support. Thats why the Bronx County Democratic Committee endorsed his candicacy over several worthy democrats with long records of achievement. On September 09, 2008 join me and many others in supporting Nelson and lets elect him to the NY Assembly.

It is hard for the Bush administration to condemn the Russians for their invasion of Georgia when it was this administration that invaded two countries in the face of several UN resolutions and condemnation from many world leaders.
Russia should withdraw from Georgia immediatly but this action demonstrates that to lead the free world you must do so by example as others will eventually do what we do. The Bush administration's example is coming back to haunt them as the Russians demonstrate how insignificant Bush rhetoric can be when Russia wants to invade a democratically elected country. Lead by example...

Civil Liberties have been eroded to the extent that we must now secure our own civil security. With the Bush government breathing down our necks its often on people's mind that the Government may be spying on them in the name of "the war on terror". I beleive in securing our country but not at the expense of our own freedoms.
