Such is the chant from the side of Barack's opponents. "He won't even admit the surge worked," I often hear McCain supporters spit out.

Barack Obama opposed the war in Iraq from the start because he felt it was a distraction from going after Osama Bin Laden. When asked whether he thought the troop surge worked, during a July 22, 2008 interview with CBS' Katie Couric, Obama stated: "There is no doubt that the extraordinary work of our US forces has contributed to a lessening of the violence."

Here's an analogy that even Elisabeth Hasselbeck should get:

If a parent tells a child not to touch a hot stove because it will burn them and they still touch it, they will probably burn themselves and require at the very least an application of ointment to diminish the affects of the burn. No one should question the parent's judgment about whether the ointment was a success in healing the child; what should be the issue is why the child didn't heed the warnings of the parent to start. The ointment is doing the work well and the child has to learn from his mistakes but what should the parent have done? Tied the child up and locked it away in its room until it turned 21?

In this analogy, the ointment are our brave, hard working troops. The parent is Barack Obama. The child, obviously, George Bush.

Conservatives are criticizing the stage construction on Iverson Field set up for Barack Obama's presidential nomination appointment. Commentator Rush Limbaugh is calling it "Greek a temple" in reference to what conservatives call Obama's Godlike ascension within the party's ranks.

To me, it calls to mind the speech delivered by conservative President Ronald Reagan before the Berlin wall in which he famously urged Russia's communist leader Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." True: Reagan didn't build the Berlin wall but he or his handlers chose the photo-op location.

Image is everything.
ABC issued a statement that Rosie O'Donnell will not return to the talk show after the holiday break, per Rosie's decision.

In one of her final appearances, O'Donnell got into a heated argument with fellow host conservative dunderhead Elisabeth Hasselback.

The flare-up came after O'Donnell had offered viewers to ponder the fact that 655,000 Iraqi's are dead (compared to 3,434 U.S. military personnel that have died in Iraq). O'Donnell then asked rhetorically 'who are the terrorists'?

Conservative pundits seized on the opportunity to smear and misconstrue O'Donnell's words by blatantly implying that O'Donnell was referring to the U.S. fighting soldiers as terrorists.

Anyone with a brain in their head and had seen the entire episode in context would know that O'Donnell was referring to the U.S. in general and President George W. Bush's White House Administration in coded specifics.

After the pundits had had their input, O'Donnell confronted Hassellback why, whom O'Donnell had referred to as a friendly rival, didn't come to her defense. The two women, apparently left the studio that day having not resolved anything.

I'm not a great O'Donnell fan when she's political, she's much too abrasive and combative to take listening to her point rationally. If she could tone down the Rambo approach she has to make herself heard, she may become easier to take and her rivals may begin to listen to her view more willingly.

It's unfortunate she had to exit the program she turned into a firestorm of media attention on this sour note.

Here's a link on Rosie's blog referring to the heat.

A memorial service was held for Yolanda King today who died suddenly May 15. Her death was overshadowed by God smiting Jerry Falwell on the same day.

In contrast, Falwell was notoriously relied on homophobic rhetoric to garner attention. Yolanda was much like her legendary parents, Martin and Coretta, and advocated equality for all, including GLBT people.

It's not sad to lose an enemy but it's horrible to lose a friend.

In a 24-15 vote, the Nebraska Senate voted to kill a bill that would add sexuality to the categories protected under the state's anti-discrimination law.

Two Republicans led the attack on the bill.

Sen. Tom Carlson (R-Holdrege) said gays don't need workplace protections as long as they keep their sex lives in the closet.

"We're talking here about values. We're talking here about behavior. We're talking here about ethics," he said.

Sen. Tony Fulton (R-Lincoln) said it would give special rights to homosexuals and said it could lead to protections for to pedophiles and transvestites.

What Neanderthals! What bigots! What morons!

Dislike whomever you want, it's a free country. Justifiying discrimination based on your distaste is, or should be, unlawful. This is why people of faith get a bad reputation, because elected officials use the bible to legitimize bigotry in law, or lack of protections.

You don't have to agree or approve of someone's sexual orientation, but that doesn't give you the right to deem them subhuman, misters Carlson and Fulton.

Can somebody please write a law that would keep one's religious belief separate from legislating?

Harry Reid, Senate Majority leader, surrenders to President Bush's claim that witholding funding for American troops in Iraq.

Truth is, both sides played politics with the lives of American troops.

Bush insinuated that without war fundings, our troops would be left up the creek without a paddle. They would be stranded? Isn't he supposed to be in charge of protecting their safety? If he can't find the funds to support them, shouldn't he be a MAN and choose to bring them home rather than allow them to fight without proper funding?

Democrats, forgetting the reasons why they were elected to sway the political tide, reneged on campaign promises to hold this president accountable. No doubt, they caved because they bought Bush's political game that the Dems would get the blame if the troops were to go on fighting without proper funds. Weaklings.

Dammit, Russ Feingold, why aren't YOU president or running for the office?
Victory in Iraq means finding Osama Bin Laden and bringing him to justice.

Mr. Bush has given up the chase for him and misdirected the war and now the U.S. is seen as weak and incompetent. Since its obvious that our current President has special interests that keep him intent to fight a senseless war with a country that we never should have invaded, the only way for us to win this war is to hunt down Bin Laden. If Mr. Bush wont do that, then we must elect a new leader who will. Preferrably, not one of similar mind or Party. Once we have Bin Laden in our custody, we must bring him to justice and punish him. That does not mean killing him. I dont believe in the death penalty or an eye for an eye. Punishment, yes. Killing, no. Only with Bin Laden captured can we begin to bring back dignity, strength and respect to our Nation.

That will bring us victory.
