Am I As Dumb As You Look?
About the Author
Is it just me, or does the entire Republican campaign make you feel as though your intelligence is being insulted??
I feel disgusted that the Republicans truly believe we are a nation of idiots. When I watched the Democratic National Convention, I felt that I was witnessing history in the making. It wasn't because Obama is the first black presidential candidate, either. I felt connected with every other American out there who has any faith left in the American dream, and at times I resonated so deeply with these people that I felt I knew them. I knew we were all fighting the same war and that we had the upper hand, especially with Biden on the bill. And the best thing the Republicans could come up with is a senile war vet and a hockey mom?
I tuned into the Republican National Convention with every intention of keeping an open mind. It quickly became evident that instead of focusing on real issues, the intention was to side step into safe red territory. Everyone sounded the same to me...blah, blah blah, There's a war in Iraq...blah, blah, Abortions and gay marriage are unethical...and by the way, did you guys know that John McCain was a maverick twenty years ago and that he's a POW? Just in case any of us weren't aware, they made sure to emphasize it over and over again.
Then, of course, there's Palin. John McCain contradicted his entire campaign by electing this inexperienced woman to be the potential Vice President of the United States. He has based his mud slinging campaigns on Obama's inexperience and then elected a candidate four years his junior with no experience whatsoever. I think the deliberate play on the Hillary supporters is repulsive, and I feel that his selection of this unknown woman was a way to try to one-up Democrats. I feel as though I'm watching an episode of the Jerry Springer Show when I try to take Palin at face value. The first real opportunity I got to see her was the acceptance speech, in which she looked into the camera, smiled, and proceeded to lie her head off to America without so much as flinching. She stood there and renounced all of the things that have gained her the small bit of notoriety she possesses! In the midst of all the scandal surrounding her, the best thing she has to offer me is a torrent of lies? That's unacceptable.
By the way, I also love that the McCain campaign has now run out of fuel and has chosen to take Obama's Change campaign promotion and adapt it as their own. It would be a lot harder to swallow if myself and all involved didn't know just how wrong that is.
