About the Author
This Blog will speak on issues that I deem important to America. It's all of our process.

We each have half - a hard fought half. This is the NBA playoffs and this is a tight game. Everything counts - Sweetie gate counts - as much as White voters comments count - as much as Rev. Wright comments counts - as much as Jackson won South Carolina counts - as much as Bitter counts and on and on.

There are some issues that some want to stand up and say that's a deal breaker. So be it. I almost gave up baseball when the umpires helped Kenny Rogers cover up the gold hand. But the Cards won the series and I moved on.

There are people in Sacremento who still believe the Lakers with help from the refs stole a couple of series from them. So be it.   Read More »
You have made your mind up about Senator Obama. You wish to hurt the entire party because he is on the ticket.
There are many who agree with you about him. There are not many who agree with you about the whole party.
Taken to its final extent - it would leave the Republicans in power - since they would also recapture the house and the senate. The same party that stole the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.
I can't - in all good conscious except that. Those Republicans are just as guilty as Bush for the War - the Economy - the lack of Health Care.
If you wish to hate Obama - be free. If you wish to blow up the entire party - and take the country down the tubes with you - be out.
It's not fair to those of us who have others that depend upon people that have to make better choices this election.
I am asking that you consider other Democrats - many who like Obama no better than you - have a right to run for Senate and Congress and local offices without someone saying the whole party is totally without honor.

Thank you.
Friday Line: How Many Seats Will Dems Gain in the Senate?
A combination of the unending Democratic presidential race (which now appears at an end) and the special election woes of House Republicans have combined to push 2008's U.S. Senate races to the back burner.

But they've not been forgotten by The Fix, who has an abnormal fascination with all congressional contests.

Status quo reigns on the Senate playing field at the moment, with Democrats very well positioned to pick up between 2-4 seats. Even higher gains are a possibility. Republicans' best hope is to pick off the lone Democratic seat where they are competitive -- Louisiana -- and keep losses among their own incumbents to two or three.

Regardless, Democrats are almost certain to keep (and grow) the majority they won in 2006. How big a majority they have in January 2009 depends on how many incumbents they can oust.

As always, the number one ranked race is the most likely to switch parties in the fall. Got an opinion or suggestion about a contest that is (or isn't) on the Line? Use the comments section to tell us what you think.

Without further adieu -- to the Line!   Read More »
In November of 2008 the Democrats will wake up to a fillibuster proof Senate - an overwhelming majority in the House of Representative - and a Democrat in the White House for the first time in 8 years.

We'd better be ready.

First - heal the wounds of the Presidential Primary. Forget Bipartisan politics - how about inter party healing. Find your issues - leave the candidates - and lets push for what we think we need on the platform. Either will win.

Second - Recognize your government - The House and Senate are just as important and in some cases more so. Get on board now with your legislatures and start pushing the Agenda.

Third - Be prepared to work hard and not celebrate. Does no good to get all Dems in office and accomplish nothing - they will be coming right out the next election.

Our Victory is at hand - we had better be ready.

Illinois's 6th congressional district: Freshman Peter Roskam (R) won his first term in Congress by a close 51% to 49% margin. This west suburban district was once solidly Republican, but has become more Democratic in recent years. It narrowly went to George W. Bush with 53% to 47% in 2004 (CPVI=R+3). Roskam will face Democrat Jill Morgenthaler, a retired U.S. Army Reserve Colonel and Iraq war veteran.

The Flip is on.

Group Save The Senate.

Lets go Dems.
We have to get this guy out -

From the Washington Post

Agents from the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service raided the Alaska home of Sen. Ted Stevens (R) yesterday as part of a broad federal investigation of political corruption in the state that has also swept up his son and one of his closest financial backers, officials said.

Stevens, the longest-serving Republican senator in history, is under scrutiny from the Justice Department for his ties to an Alaska energy services company, Veco, whose chief executive pleaded guilty in early May to a bribery scheme involving state lawmakers.

Contractors have told a federal grand jury that in 2000, Veco executives oversaw a lavish remodeling of Stevens's house in Girdwood, an exclusive ski resort area 40 miles from Anchorage, according to statements by the contractors.

Stevens said in a statement that his attorneys were advised of the impending search yesterday morning. He said he would not comment on details of the inquiry to avoid "any appearance that I have attempted to influence its outcome."

Stevens, 83, who joined the Senate in 1968, has been considered one of the most powerful members of Congress for more than a decade, including six years in which he held wide sway over nearly $1 trillion in federal spending as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He is now the top Republican on the Commerce Committee, which has oversight of fisheries and other industries critical to his home state.

But all three of the congressional districts that include parts of Polk will see contested elections.

U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Bartow, is being challenged by Democrat Doug Tudor, 45, of Riverview in Hillsborough County, who retired this year from the Navy at the rank of master chief petty officer, according to his campaign Web site.

Tudor said he's running for Congress 'to give regular folks a voice; a voice that Adam Putnam has sacrificed in his never-ending submissiveness to party politics.'

Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Brooksville, whose 5th Congressional District includes the northern portion of Polk, faces a Republican challenger, John King, in the primary election in August. The winner of the race will face the winner of the Democratic primary ? Carol Castagnero of Lakeland, H. David Werder off Hudson or John Russell of Land O' Lakes.

There is an open seat for the 15th Congressional District, which includes a portion of the northeast corner of Polk, because U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon is retiring. Seven candidates, all from the Brevard County and Vero Beach area, are contending for the seat.

pcmoore - please let us know who you are supporting and any help you need vs Ginny Brown-Waite.
I went to pick up my daughter from school two days ago. She goes to school in East St. Louis and is 5 years old. On the top of the wall I saw that each child had colored a picture of Martin Luther King - below him each child had colored a picture of Barack Obama.

The picture of Martin Luther King was the same one that I had colored over 40 years ago. Indeed, I remember getting into a fight over the picture I colored of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King when a girl in my class claimed she did it.

We have few heroes in the Black community. Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and it used to be Abraham Lincoln. Jackie Joyner Kersee was probably the first live person they colored in my school district. Barack Obama is certainly the first live politician ever. Hillary Clinton probably the second.

The one thing Obama and Clinton have different from those of the past. They are not victims of murder. All along that has been the fear in the Black Community for Obama and Clinton too. It is the unspoken terror as we applaud their success.

My children now know the answer to every Black history question is not Martin Luther King. The answer to every American Woman history question is not Martha Washingon They have seen living people run for president and they think its normal.

Color Senator Obama what ever you want. I have to say - he's beautiful to me.   Read More »
Today is my Obama day. I wanted to only post positive Obama statements and get some of you to see why I support him. Well the Edwards endorsement tossed that out the window.

For many Clinton people I sense that they feel Edwards is the final push out the window by the party. That's not good - because that's not the truth.

Who in there right mind wants to push out half the party? You guys must think we are nimnods or at the least Republicans. Not so at all.

Give Obama credit for this if nothing else - he has been smart enough to get to the point of being the nominee - he'd be stupid to risk the GE by grandstanding.

Options Clinton people - options please. Your place in the party has never been questioned. How can we end the best most successful race ever by two individuals and keep the party together. We can dominate as a party in November but only if we stay together.

Trust me - we know we need you.
Question 1:

Will you vote for the top of the ticket no matter who is on it?

Question 2:

Do you hope and will you work for the Democrats picking up more senate seats in the 2008 election.

Question 3:

Do you hope and will you work for the Democrats picking up more House seats in the 2008 election.

I'm Yes - Yes - Yes -

As I said earlier - due to the nature of the campaign - I will take 2 out of 3 and will not ridicule anyone for any vote.
George Bush & John McCain continued to support a war that has cost Trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives after the Mission was accomplished.

Some mom's and dad's continue to recieve calls from bill collectors from hospitals and doctors whom they couldn't afford to take their kids to - but had to.

Another company closes its doors and heads off for cheap labor anywhere but America.

The 7 Republican appointees woke up and headed off to the Supreme Court to do battle with the remaining two democratic appointees.

It was a bad night in America......

But I feel a new day is coming. Thank you Mississippi.
According to a Washington Post article these are the most endangered Republican Seats.

Virginia Open - John Warner retiring
Colorado Open - Wayne Allerd retiring
New Mexico Open - Pete Domenici retiring

New Hampshire - John Sununu incumbent
Alaska - Ted Stevens incumbent
Oregon - Gordon Smith incumbent
Minnesota - Norm Coleman incumbent
North Carolina - Elizabeth Dole incumbent
Maine - Susan Collins incumbent
Kentucky - Mitch McConnel incumbent

I would add that we can get Cornyn in Texas too.

I will take Ted Stevens in Alaska - He is the longest serving senate Republican in History - and king of pork.

Deborah Williams has Elizabeth Dole

Several have Cornyn -

Plenty of room left - Save the Senate group.

Thank you -
I have a choice between two great candidates. Before it was between three great candidates. Before that it was between several good candidates. I choose Senator Obama.

My research began with on the issues website. Senator Obama had written more positions to let you know where he stood on all the issues than any other candidate. This indicated openness to me. I then went to his website along with Hillary's and Edwards. I found that he had sponsored bipartisan legislation on Ethics. This was very important to me.

While senator Clinton has a better health care plan, and Edwards has a better plan for the environment, I felt senator Obama had the better education plan and that was important to me.

This is party builder - and I am proud to be a democrat for change - even prouder that I don't go to name calling to support my candidate or pull down any others. We all have our reasons for picking a candidate. Those are mine.
Today is not the day I give up.
There is such a rush to give up -
the line is far too long with people in it asking me what took me so long -
I really don't like crowds anyway
I'd much rather stay out in the field of battle
Where I got a little room to move -

Besides - who knows - we might just win.
I don't feel any less committment.
Any less sure that what I am doing is the right thing to do.
The rules say - I don't have to quit unless my candidate quits.
Well - I've asked her and she says she's in it for me.
So I'm in it for her.

So - how about another round you Obama supporters -
I promise I will stop as soon as Hillary wins.....
Or decides to stop fighting.....
But not a second before
Today is not the day I give up.
A "significant" tropical cyclone is expected to form in the next 24 hours and sweep across Myanmar's largest city, Yangon, and into the Irrawaddy delta area -- the region worst affected -- according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

Aid agencies estimate around 2 million people survived Cyclone Nargis on May 3, many of whom are still homeless. Aid agencies have been able to reach only 270,000 of them so far, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.

But Thailand's prime minister said Wednesday the junta believes it is in control of the relief operations, AP reported.

Samak Sundaravej, back from a visit to Yangon, said the military had guaranteed him that there were no disease outbreaks or starvation among the survivors.

He said Myanmar did not want any foreign aid workers because they "have their own team to cope with the situation." Watch aid being unloaded in Yangon »

The United Nations estimates between 63,000 and 100,000 people died as a result of the cyclone, while the junta has put the figure at less than 30,000.

"The government has a responsibility to assist their people in the event of a natural disaster," Amanda Pitt, a spokeswoman for the U.N. Office for Humanitarian Affairs, told AP. Watch Myanmar troops disperse aid to cyclone victims »

"We are here to do what we can and facilitate their efforts and scale up their response. It is clearly inadequate, and we do not want to see a second wave of death as a result of that not being scaled up."
Yesterday - I made a pledge to stop trying to answer all the people who said - my way or the highway. They have legitmate reasons for what they do. I have mine also.

We can't build anything if we seek to tear down at the same time. My wishes are for a Democratic landslide that reduces the Republicans to a minority party and provides a new platform going forward.

So far so good today. The Clinton people and the Obama people have so far for the most part pushed on. We need to work together on a platform issues - senate issues - house issues - state issues - supreme court issues. The continuation of the banter about the top pushes all these issues to the side.

We are bigger than that and have proven it today. Thank you one and all - lets keep kicking Operation Chaos where it hurts.
The White Vote has been called racist by some in this campaign. I think that is incorrect. I would love for Hillary Clinton to be existing on the racist vote. This race would have been over in Iowa because - there really aren't that many racist left as this race is proving.

People, Bubba's, are voting for Clinton over Obama because she has qualities that he doesn't have. She has more experience, is better connected, and has lead the fight on several issues that he hasn't. He has some qualities that she doesn't have. That's why the race is so close - at one time we saw we had two good candidates - we still do - each with seperate strenghts. To assign Bubba's votes for Hillary to racism is the same as saying Black's voting for Obama is racism.

Both groups are voting their best interests. Now when the fall comes - the Republicans will try to get the Bubba vote. Here is there problem. Bubba has children. Bubba needs a house and a job. A good paying job at that. Racism doesn't feed the bulldog and Bubba knows it.

Hillary vs Barack - Bubba goes with Hillary for her experience. McCain vs Obama Bubba goes with Obama because McCain's experience is what cost Bubba his house and job.

Ladies and Gentlemen - do not sleep on old Bubba - he's a lot smarter - and a lot more democratic than you think.
(CNN) â€" While exit polls from the West Virginia primary seemed to suggest the party is deeply divided between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, a new poll out Wednesday suggests either candidate would easily beat Republican John McCain in the fall.

According to a new Quinnipiac University poll, both Democratic candidates beat McCain by a gap well outside the margin of error. Obama beats McCain by 7 points in the poll, 47 percent to 40 percent, while Hillary Clinton bests the Arizona senator by 5 points, 46 percent to 41 percent.

The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 points and was conducted from May 8-12.

Clinton and Obama's relatively strong standing against McCain in the poll appear to dispel notions that Democratic party may be unable to come together around one candidate in the fall, even as West Virginia exit polls reported majorities of both candidates' supporters would not support the other candidate in the general election.

SACRAMENTO (AP) â€" California on Tuesday installed the nation's first black female legislative leader, swearing in Los Angeles Democrat Karen Bass as speaker of the state Assembly.
Bass said at the ceremony that she feels the weight of history on her shoulders.

"If we could only harness the power of our common humanity, I don't think there's anything we couldn't do for the people of this state," she said.

The 54-year-old becomes the 67th speaker, succeeding fellow Los Angeles Democrat Fabian Nunez. He is relinquishing the post at the end of the year because of term limits.
