Irreverent Observations

If I were King.....

After watching the theatrics of the Republican Convention and the Governor of the frozen state of Narnia (I mean Alaska)  I am in Never Never land with Peter Pan. In the words of the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz " I do believe in ghosts, I do believe in ghosts, I do believe in ghosts, I do, I do, I do" Governor Palin who did not have a passport before 2007 must have taken her sleigh across the expanses of Canada to reach Minneapolis to deliver her speech full of blatant lies, exaggerations and inaccuracies. Her naive chip on her shoulder, not only accused the media of  incompetence, but used trademark Karl Rove divisive tactics. The tactic of "if you tell a story or a lie long enough and hard enough that some will believe it no matter how obvious" was indeed alive and kicking. .

Americans are celebrating Independence Day today at home and abroad, It is a day to celebrate the Independence America won from England, much the same as India celebrates next month on the fifteenth. Yet for me Independence Day is not July 4th, it is January fifteenth for that is the day George Bush, Dick Cheney and all of their lap dogs leave office. Eight years of Hell my country and the world has suffered from these con artists, liars, arrogant and self indulgent distortions of leadership.

Barack OBAMA will lead this country back to prosperity, our hopes will become realities, and America will once again be a respected neighbor and a beacon for freedom. Gender, race, and religion will be replaced with Nature, peace and opportunity. America will be respected worldwide for the ideals it represents and lives by rather than bending and breaking the principles this country was founded on.

I am wondering if we should make a name for these distortions that keep popping up. Sure they are fear mongering and we know that is a Republican trademark. But while I would call them outright lies; would a objective Republican? Outright lies may be what they are, but for the sake of balance they must be more than a white lie, because there is nothing innocent about promoting  misinformation. Would we call it a fib? Perpetual disillusion? Misinformation and subterfuge? A crock of crapola? Anyone have any ideas? Lets look at one example.   Read More »
I must take my leave for the evening due to the fact the lovefest starts in 4 pledged delegates or when the polls close.

I would like to remind the gentlemen of the site not to get too excited when hugging the elegant little old ladies that frequent our happy home. So much love, so much togetherness and oneness of purpose. It is simply too much for me to handle. I am afrid I would shed tears of joy and embarass myself .

Please remember not to shake up the champagne as someone's eye can be taken out as the cork pops. Do save me a piece of the double chocolate cake please.

Finally, please remember that Kum by Yah sounds much better with your arms interlocked and softly in candlelight...Tata and have fun !

First and foremost I wanted to thank those that took their valuable time to post on the three Blogs I removed. It really is not fair of me to do that, but I was guilty on two of being overzealous. The third had an lousy comment in the form a personal attack aimed at a Democratic lady. Therefore, I decided discretion was the better part of valor and deleted.   Read More »
AP Newsbreak: SC Congressman Clyburn endorsing Obama 24 minutes ago COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn is endorsing Barack Obama for president. The South Carolina congressman told The Associated Press on Monday that he has started to phone the state's superdelegates to ask them to get behind one candidate. When asked whether that candidate was Obama, Clyburn said yes. Clyburn says he'll make a formal endorsement announcement Tuesday. The backing of the highest-ranking black member of Congress comes more than four months after Obama won the Democratic primary in South Carolina   Read More »

I am posting this on my Blog on Obama and DNC. Those of you on the Obama site I suggest you see the anger of the Clintonites on the DNC site. Listening to Sen Bill Nelson of Florida today ( a Clinton supporter) he is happy and reports that Floridians are happy... Situation done. Michigan is happy with the Levin plan that was 69 -59 except for Howard Ickes and a MINORITY of Democrats. The problem arises in Clinton supporters OUTSIDE of the two states who feel their candidate was screwed. The term hijacked is most often used. :The process hijacked four delegates according to the Clinton brain trust. For the record we in the Obama campaign did not get what we wanted a 50-50 split and the Levin solution was a compromise that was splitting the difference of what Clinton wanted and Obama wanted. Four delegates.   Read More »
Little Lord Fauntleroy is no longer a Lord. The division of Church and State reminds us why both Republicans and Democrats have a Chairman of their party that is NOT the President. The Clinton's are are acting like spoiled children who like the Bush dynasty changes rules, laws, and agreements at their convenience. What happened to a handshake and a man or woman's word is their bond? What does this lack of honoring an agreement say about credibility to the world? Doesn't it make our allies in other countries wonder if they made an agreement with a Clinton White House that chances are they might not honor it if it became inconvenient?   Read More »
I wanted to bang the keys for a few minutes with regard to our respected friend Donna Brazile. First and foremost albeit a bit tardy I wanted to offer her our congratulations for being named by the prestigious London Telegraph newspaper the most important woman political pundit in America. While there are 18 men in front of her all we can say is she should have been on the front page, and nineteen is simply not acceptable. Donna as you know from her CNN commentary serves up her home cooking like no one else. Serving on the DNC Rules and Bylaws committee naturally she is an undeclared Superdelegate.

OK now it is my turn....... This is my little Blog ( published on a mere six sites) so permit me to talk about the two Bush's and how they have brought down our country almost single handedly. Then I want to talk about the aging hunchback.

Bush ( the elder) came from Langley ( the CIA) and was brainwashed by the system of Alan Dulles who started the CIA. The CIA is and always has been an autonomous company that operates on it;s own agenda. If you believe that Congress oversight is sufficient or is informed of all their doings I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. There Texas cowboys still live in the wild West and view the world as their personal oyster. Be it Iran - Contra or Abu Ghraib the CIA is at the forefront. The CIA is a rule bending, terrorist organization that operates in the "my way or the highway" mentality.   Read More »
Lanny Davis is spearheading the anti DNC position someone ought to throw him out of the Democratic party. He flatly stated repeatedly on Larry King that he was speaking for the Clinton camp. He stated that 2025 was not the number, even if Sen, Obama made it there before the convention it was meaningless. Of course he has his own set of rules, numbers and is thumbing his nose ( speaking for the Clinton camp) at the DNC, Howard Dean, the rules committee, the Superdelegates, the delegates, the Democratic party. I think it is high time for someone to swat him like the gnat he has shown himself to be.   Read More »
This morning on CNN I heard your interview and again you claiming that Sen. Clinton "won" Texas. My understanding is neither candidate has "won" Texas as their process will not be over until June. Sen. Clinton did net 4 delegates in the primary's popular election. However, every poll projects Sen, Obama as winning the Texas Caucuses. CNN for example is projecting a 56% - 44% caucus win for Sen. Obama. This would translate into a nine delegate pick up for Sen. Obama. Thus net result is Sen. Obama wins Texas not Sen. Clinton by five delegates. Why cite an incomplete State in Sen. Clinton's column especially one that looks as dismal as Texas for your candidate? Is this not the same incomplete misinformation that makes many suspect there is a lack of being forthright in the Clinton campaign?
Lets play......;-)

Scenario One Hillary wins the nomination Result advance for women.. She will probably choose a man Bill Richardson would be a great choice for her in my opinion.

Scenario Two Obama wins the nomination. Possibilities: Logic would say that Obama could would and should choose a woman for VP and personally I think he will. I don't think it will be Hillary and I don't think it will be Oprah, in fact I doubt it will be an African American woman and that leaves most likely White or Hispanic. Result advance for women and maybe Hispanics.

Scenario Three McCain. If and maybe not nessesarily if Hillary wins or Obama picks a woman VP logic would again say that McCain would grab a woman for his VP choice as well. Result advance for women.   Read More »
Earmarks..... Clinton 340 Million, Obama 91 million, Mc Cain 0. Let me start by saying I believe some earmarking is positive. Bridges to nowhere are not. Yet this does not mean that all earmarking is bad, it is normal for a Senator to promote business from their respective States. Perhaps where the earmark is going is a specialist industry. If all things are equal say quotes from a nationwide construction company or a supplier of services or a manufacturer why wouldn't you want your State to prosper? Even with Sen. Clinton at a whopping 340 million you cpould say "ahh she is from NY" Yet it certainly looks like too much, but lets give her or at least part of the 340 million as unassailable. Naturally a better number is Obama at 91 million this to most makes sense.

Some might think that Sen. McCain is above reproach with the big zero, zippo, none staring us in the face. However you would not find this author who lives in Arizona one of those singing his praises. Let me put it this way, if McCain was your Sen. you would have to wonder what exactly he was doing for your State. I am pondering that as I am now registered to vote Democratic in the fair State of Arizona. Zero? If you were living in Arizona would you not wonder why he had steered a big zero to the State he represents? It seems he has no problems writing letters for Paxson Communications ( a Florida Firm). His Arizona campaign chairman seems not to be of the same mind either, as he is now indicted. Then there is all these connections to lobbyists I keep reading about, McCain's chairman, his campaign manager, etc etc etc... I mean it sounds like a freekin hippy love in for the lobbyists all his bosom buddies.   Read More »
The failed policy of the US toward Cuba is a failure. Barack Obama is at least moving toward change and he should not back peddle on this, it is needed. Yep Cuba shot down two planes, yet it is key to remember that for six months these planes had been buzzing the Malecon in Havana dropping leaflets. The pilots had been warned several times, the US State Department had been warned several times, FAA had been warned and Washington had been warned. Would we permit two planes from Cuba to buzz Biscayne Boulevard? The Russians Santa Monica Beach? Of course not.

The result of defending their own soil was the Helms Burton Act. This was written in backrooms with the aid of lawyers from the Bacardi family, the most important of Cuban expat families. It is a typical example of over kill that Cuban policy is noted for. Presidents have to sign off every six months on not enforcing aspects of this Act. The key one being that any company having property or investments in Cuba can have their assets seized in the US. This means companies like BP (British petroleum, Sherritt the huge Canadian mining firm, all the international hotels like Melia)could have their US assets frozen due to this ridiculous Act.

The average Cuban family makes about 30.00USD a month and are barely alive. Grandparents are able to see their families only once every three years. We can't send adequate funds to Cuban families before limits were individual now they are per family. These are some of the injustices and examples of the failed policy that Sen, Obama wants to change. Here is a list of limit before Helms Burton and after it.

We are the land of the free and brave (except to visit Cuba). And the fact that Cuban families make an average of 30.00USD per month is pathetic. The fact we are not permitted to help them is a travesty. Helms- Burton was written in back rooms using the Bacardi family lawyers, it circumvents our legal system.

Bush in his trademark style made a significant change to the OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) Part of the Treasury Department. This is the office that is supposed to be chasing Bin Laden's money trail. The fact is that within this department 85% of its manpower and resources are used to enforce its laws against little old ladies who visit Cuba on bicycle trips and a paltry 15% on Bin Laden. The OFAC was directed to usurp our legal code by Bush/Cheney The OFAC not only abandoned our right to appeal a decision, but its courts are instructed to make an assumption of guilt rather than innocence dealing with citizens of these United States. This is against what are country stands for and the basic fundamental of our legal system that we are presumed innocent.

Maybe I am over simplifying again, Oh yeah I do it all the time. Or maybe I just don't understand the situation, yep I go off half cocked too. Or maybe someone has a better suggestion, but I have not heard it yet. Is there not a situation here that requires a solution sooner rather than later? Sure, it is a shame that the honorable delegates in Florida and Michigan were stripped of their seating. They were certainly warned we can all agree, right? Yet they decided to go ahead anyway. The candidates all agreed to the solution for moving up their primaries, right?

Now, I am wondering if the total number of delegates needed to clinch was reduced by the number of delegates in those two states? If not is it not logical that the the number of delegates to clinch should have been reduced at the same time they these seats were taken away from the total? Personally, my grandfather always said "If you make your bed you must sleep in it" Seating these delegates is a poor solution as they were taken out of the mix. Whether or not that was fair is another can of worms that this Blog is not about. This Blog is about finding the fairest solution to a problem that has unfolded.

Neither Sen. Clinton not Sen. Obama seems to be able to clinch as it looks now, yeah they will be close, but no brass ring. Rather than adding it seems to me to only make sense to subtract. Unless of course we want to alienate much of the record turnout seen in primaries. The impression of back room deals by Super delegates sure is not going to give these newly registered voters a warm fuzzy feeling is it? Frankly it will give many seasoned voters a cold slap in the face too. Is this the road we are on? It sure seems that way.

The bigger picture seems to me to be the General Election, are we going to risk losing to the Republicans because of our inability to find a solution to this growing problem the DNC is seemingly ignoring? The time to act is yesterday not a few short weeks from the General Election because we have a late convention. Just my opinion.... But if I were King, Mr. Dean that is what I would do. Even if Michigan and Florida have been reduced from the total to clinch, further reduction makes sense. It is the path of least potential problems. It sure beats procrastinating as we are pushed at sword point along the gangplank. Time to get off the runaway train.
