What Makes You Angry?

Anger. Sometimes it's a great thing to have. Sometimes it fuels us and drives us to accomplish something that has to get accomplished. But sometimes, it just lurks around inside us looking for a way to get out.

So. What is it that really makes you angry? Not the first thing that comes to mind... but the thing that REALLY does it?

Less than 24 hours ago the polls weren't open yet, and we hoped our party would unify.

Less than 6 hours ago the states were called, and we saw that the party is not only not unified, but it's splitting deeper than we had imagined.

In the past 24 minutes I have seen homophobic attacks, racist rebuttals, and have been called a liar for citing a post from Jan 11th.

And it's only the beginning.

First off, thanks for the work you are doing around here.

I'm curious about something. Is any information gathered from the blog posts here? Do you or anyone keep any stats on posts about specific issues or candidates from this part of the overall website?

It's a topic that a few of us happened to be talking about a lot lately with regards to bias and statistics of the posts.

I decided to post instead of PM so that other people could include questions or comments and all who are interested might see the responses. I'm sure he'll answer when time permits, remember, he's kinda busy.

I came across a post this morning that I have to write a response to. I wasn't planning to write much, I had one idea for something semi useful to say, and then I was going to get on with my weekend, but I gotta respond to this.

Words are SO important. They are how we communicate. Language and words convey thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Words can make us laugh or make us cry, or make us fall in love.

The use of language to hurt one group of people, in this case based on gender, is wrong.

How many times have we heard Hillary talk about the glass ceiling? How many times have we heard people make hate based gender comments like the "fat old b*tch in skittle color pants suits" thing. How many of last year's posts calling Hillary a "whore" did we have to endure?

We have been through the argument last week about how words are just words, and or words matter ... But make no mistake that SOME words are hurtful. And sometimes, people say things thinking that no one will pay attention or take them seriously. Calling women less capable, weaker, bitchier, whinier - all of those things are just words, but some words are hurtful, they are offensive, and they are unnecessary.

Prompted by Wattree's post, I hunted down RJKR619's post calling Barack Obama the anti-christ. (I had sorta thought it was Mitt Romney, myself) It's short, so for reference sake, here it is:

"If it feels weird, it is weird. Too cultish-- too creepy. His compadres are also Anti-Israel, anti-Jewish, and now, the cherry on top -- an endorsement from the one and only Louis Farrakhan, Nation of Islam."

It's just an example of moronic hatred, and is overwhelming in it's unimportance.

Here's another one.

What Are You Willing To Settle For?

First off, I'm sure Obama supporters will comment on this post and say that's why we should all vote Obama, and next I'm sure that a few Clinton supporters will say the same about their candidate, but you see, if you pay attention, this post isn't about either one of them at all. It is about you and what you are willing to settle for.

Let's get a clear CLEAR picture of reality. And I point out because I have to that these are American realities. They are realities in New York because Senator Clinton has not changed them, and they are realities in Illinois, because State legislator Obama turned Senator Obama has not changed them. But mostly they are realities because Americans accept them as such.

My take on Michelle's words

I try to be fair. No one always succeeds at that, and so I'm sure I don't either. But I try, so hopefully people from all sides will think about my take on what Michelle Obama said.

By now we've all seen the youtube videos, and we've seen the two camps here both come out swinging. Are Michelle's words "this is the first time in my adult life that I've been really proud of my country" (also said earlier that same day without the "really") worth a controversy? Sure.

No one wants to think of a potential First Lady of the USA with an anger issue and an axe to grind. We don't like the image of Michelle running around yelling "Off with their heads!" and on some sort of vendetta war against Hillary supporters, or people who voted against Barack, or the people who made America what it is. That image of ANY First Lady - or president - is kinda terrifying. We all hope for good leaders who care about the citizens.

I've watched the youtube videos over and over and here's what I think.

In the English language there are over 60 words that mean "money".

Women want to be equal to men because it means higher paying jobs. Money.
Affirmative Action is about improving the quality of life of people who have been historically discriminated against. Quality of life = Money.
Tax breaks = Money.
More jobs = Money.
Better future? ....Money.
Immigration issues? .... Money.
Healthcare or Retirement concerns? Money.
War in the middle east for oil? M O N E Y.
What - really - has more of an impact on your vote, than your wallet? Is your wallet heavy? or is it light? Is your belly full? or is it empty? Are you wearing warm clothes? Or are you cold right now? ..... Money.
