Debbie Wasserman Schultz Puts It Best

""What kind of experience does Sarah Palin have to sit across the table from negotiators of the dangerous countries of this world?"

*************

I think is a legitimate question to ask first - before we even discuss anything else about or with Sarah Palin.

By that same measure, it IS then Palins responsbility to prove to and show us - not only her party - but ALL OF US AS U.S. CITIZENS - why she has more to offer - is better prepared - is more knowledgable - and will be more effective at being the VP and a possible President - should something happen to mccain.

McCain is campaigning like we are back in the primarys - he needs to wake up and stop playing these wreckless games with the countrys future.

Put Palin on Meet The Press - she needs to go there first and stop trying to bait Oprah into allowing her an interview.

Question

We have the issue of whether or not palin is ready to lead on day one because she is a woman with some challenging family responsibilities. The repubs are saying many are being sexist because of the position.

Why then, does palin continue to bring it up day in and day out - that she is a hockey mom, proud mom, working mom, christian mom, evangelical mom, american mom, right to life mom, abstinence education mom, witty mom, pitbull mom, grandmom, etc, etc....

Who is really deflecting back to the fact that she's a woman running for vp - us or her?

On a sidebar:

Personally, I feel that 1) the evangelicals needed a reason to not for a democrat - any democrat and 2) they are desperate to win for themselves and their values at any cost.

For the republicans, its not about country first or us - it's about them and the ones they feel are worthy of protection and who they deem acceptable.

McCain and palin can't change that and they are not trying to. They are relishing in the division between the two partys. They don't want your vote, they want you to submit.

No way, no how, no mccain.

Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.1%

It's the economy, stupid!

"So far, 605,000 jobs have disappeared since the start of the year, with employers slashing 84,000 jobs in August alone, the Labor Department reported on Friday. And even Americans who are still employed are facing tough times. Raises have not kept up with the rising cost of living, putting more pressure on workers as high gasoline and food prices curtail their spending power."

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/06/business/economy/06econ.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

REPOST:

Sorry - had to do it. Too Important.

"The GOP candidate for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, may be facing yet another ethics investigation back in her home state of Alaska. An ethics complaint obtained by NBC News was filed Wednesday by the police officers union in Alaska, requesting a probe into possible wrongdoing by the governor or her office. It was brought on behalf of state trooper Mike Wooten, an ex-brother-in-law of Palin who is at the center of the "Troopergate" scandal. The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten's personnel records. The complaint alleges "criminal penalties may apply.

Where Is The Beef?

"There's a disconnect between the way she positions herself as a small-town mayor ... and an inside Washington strategy," Sebelius added. "The kind of persona she is putting forward is very enticing, but I don't think it matches with her positions." Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz hammered a similar theme, saying that Palin "had a real problem with the truth last night" and adding that "even her hometown newspaper said she stretched the truth." (a reference to Thursday's Anchorage Daily News headline: "Some Of Palin's Remarks Stretch The Truth.") Schultz also suggested that Palin had simply done a good job of robotically delivering an address she had little hand in crafting herself. "Whenever I have had to give significant speeches, I've spent a lot of time with the people assisting me in drafting remarks, adding my own voice," Schultz said. "Last night, I only heard Sarah Palin's voice [through] negative partisan attacks, with no substance or vision of where she thinks the country should go." On Palin's effort to position herself and McCain as reformers, Schultz asked, "Where is the beef? Where is the evidence? Sarah Palin is not a reformer, she is under investigation in her home state for the abuse of power in trying to get a state trooper fired... If her best example of being a reformer was trying to sell a plane on E-Bay, that is not my definition of reform." Shultz also questioned Palin's readiness to lead. "To say that her experience as a mayor of a town of 7,000 people ... makes her qualified to have her hands on the pillar of American foreign policy, if God forbid anything happens to John McCain, to suggest that is frightening," she said. "What kind of experience does Sarah Palin have to sit across the table from negotiators of the dangerous countries of this world?"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/04/sebelius-accuses-palin-of_n_123883.html

Wasserman was sharp as a tack back in the primary and she's even more so now.

The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten's personnel records. The complaint alleges "criminal penalties may apply."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/04/alaska-police-union-files_n_124034.html

The Republicans Are Really

Outright lying this year. I have never seen them so bad.

" On the September 3 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh falsely claimed that Sen. Barack Obama "believes and favors infanticide. Not just abortion, but infanticide." He continued: "This guy approves of abortion in the fourth trimester." As Media Matters for America has documented, Limbaugh has repeatedly distorted Obama's position on the so-called "born alive" bills during his time as an Illinois state senator by declaring that Obama's opposition to the bills amounted to support for infanticide. In fact, Obama and other opponents said the bills posed a threat to abortion rights and were unnecessary because, they said, Illinois law already prohibited the conduct that these bills purported to address. "

http://mediamatters.org/items/200809040020?f=i_latest

Get It Right Here - Palins Expericence

Straight from her own mouth:

"I was just your average hockey mom and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better."

"Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown."

Don't take my word, read for yourself.

I wanted to read the transcript because while on the C-Span site - I read this:

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) tells the delegates at the GOP Convention about her qualifications to be Vice President. St. Paul, MN

I thought I had missed something.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94258995

So Much For The Reformer

If we elaborate on palin's speech and whether it was effective or not - we can generally admit that it was for the GOP. But with that - it was dishonest.

PALIN: “Senator McCain also promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest â€" and as a chief executive, I can assure you it works.”

REALITY: PALIN OPPOSED CRUCIAL EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE AND SENIORS FUNDING

PALIN: “Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.”

REALITY: UNDER PALIN, WASILLA GOVERNMENT SPENDING & DEBT SKYROCKETED.

PALIN: “It was the spirit that brought me to the governor’s office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau … when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good-ol’ boys network.”

REALITY: PALIN HAS A LT. GOVERNOR WHO IS A FORMER OIL LOBBYIST, HIRED WASILLA’S FIRST FEDERAL LOBBYIST (A FORMER STEVENS STAFFER) & HAD THE SUPPORT OF ENTRENCHED ALASKA POLITICIANS DURING HER 2006 RACE.

PALIN: “I came to office promising major ethics reform, to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is the law.”

REALITY: PALIN SIGNED WEAK ETHICS REFORM BILL & HAS HAD NUMEROUS ETHICAL FLAPS OF HER OWN.
PALIN: “I suspended the state fuel tax, and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress.”

REALITY: ALASKA HAS REQUESTED $589 MILLION IN PORK SINCE PALIN TOOK OFFICE & AS MAYOR, SHE HIRED WASILLA’S FIRST FEDERAL LOBBYIST TO SECURE EARMARKS FOR THE TOWN.
PALIN: “In fact, I told Congress â€" I told Congress, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ on that bridge to nowhere.”

REALITY: PALIN WAS FOR THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE BEFORE SHE WAS AGAINST IT.

PALIN: “But we are expected to govern with integrity, and goodwill, and clear convictions…”

REALITY: PALIN UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR ABUSE OF POWER.

Lieberman's specific attacks on Obama

"The Washington Post, The New York Times, McClatchy Newspapers, and the Associated Press all quoted Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) attacking Sen. Barack Obama in a September 2 speech at the Republican National Convention but did not report that the attack violated a pledge Lieberman had made not to "spend [his] time attacking Barack Obama" at the convention. Moreover, each of those reports quoted one of Lieberman's specific attacks on Obama -- that Obama "vot[ed] to cut off funding for our troops on the ground" -- without noting that Sen. John McCain himself has voted against legislation to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, or that Obama has voted in the past to provide funds for troops stationed there. As Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz wrote: "Obama has frequently voted to finance the war but was one of 14 Senate Democrats to oppose a war-funding bill last year -- after Republicans removed troop withdrawal deadlines -- saying he did not want to be 'validating the same failed policy in Iraq.' "

http://mediamatters.org/items/200809030007?lid=570103&rid=13804094

In My Opinion

I think palin - was condescending and disrepectful towards Senator Obama. I don't think that she will win any voters from Obama to McCain with the pointed jabs she took.

While I do understand that its an unwritten rule that the VP is the attack person, but I think she may have been a bit sarcastic and it wasn't necessary.

We've taken punches at her, not Senator Obama or Senator Biden.

I think if it's a fight the republicans want - rather than a discussion of issues and a debate based on facts rather than rhetoric, than it's a fight they will get.

A show of strength does not require that you minimize your opponent - that is not a positive attribute - not when you stand on the platform of being a reformer and a way changer.

The media can spin it like they want - but I still believe that most people are not fools and won't be duped into believing this is an election based on social issues.

This is an election based on political issues - such as Iraq - Iran - The Economy - Education - Healthcare - and yes Energy Conservation and the Environment.

What palin has managed to "accomplish" with her acceptance speech is not galvanize the nation - but rather she will polarize this election. Possibly in such a way that we have never seen before.

Don't know about you - but I am not impressed.
