A Plea for Compassion

Okay, folks, things keep getting nastier and nastier. Many Clinton supporters are getting more shrill, and many Obama supporters are becoming insufferably boastful.

Obama supporters-- I know you think your guy has the nomination in the bag. If so, congratulations. Don't keep rubbing salt in the wounds of some very dedicated voters for the Democratic party. If not, try to remember that it ain't over until someone concedes, or the convention happens. Build the party!

Clinton supporters-- I know the other side can get obnoxious in their crowing. Don't let it get to you! You support an amazing candidate. Please remember that there are many folks out there who think both candidates are good choices-- don't blast them for not supporting Clinton, or worse, for not bashing Obama.

Peace, and Democrats in 08!!!!

Backs to the wall...

I want to know. Really.

So your back is up against the wall. It is the morning of the election. What do you do if your current candidate in NOT on the ballot?

Obaminators, Clintonites-- what are you going to do? Do you honor your candidate by staying home, or, god forbid, voting for McCain? Or will you defend our country against another 4 years of Republican rule?

(for the record, I am voting Democratic in November, and I voted Edwards in my primary)

Who cares who is the next POTUS?

I think we all care. We are all passionate. Some are passionate about Clinton. Some are passionate about Obama. And some of us are passionate about making sure that the next President of the United States in NOT Senator McCain.

I know that I cannot ask for everyone to be passionate about defeating the Republicans. But what I CAN ask for is this...

Believe it or not, there are some of us out there who have not really committed to either Democratic candidate. Both are good choices, no matter what anyone says. Neither is Hitler, neither is Satan, and neither has an alien chip in their brains. So, rather than telling us how horrible the other person is (or worse yet, telling us why So-and-So on PB is so horrible), can you give us talking points (NOT LECTURES) about why we should want your candidate? Use around 50 words or so, use your spell check, and try to be articulate. Try...

How Clayton Williams changed my life

When I was growing up in Central Texas, there was this little election for governor. Maybe some of you remember it-- between Ann Richards and Clayton Williams. My church supported Clayton. I was pretty conservative at the time, and I thought, I'll go along with that, especially since I was too young to vote.

And then Clayton, talking to some reporters about the bad weather, said something charming. Comparing bad weather to rape, he said that "as long as it's inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it."

Nice guy, huh? Great Christian, eh? My church, made up of doctors mostly, denounced him, right?
