Transnistria

Transnistria, also known as Trans-Dniester, or Transdniestria and Pridnestrovie
(full name: Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic),
is another breakaway republic within the internationally recognized borders of Moldova, with the official status of an autonomous territory.

Although not recognized by any state or international organization and de jure part of Moldova, it is de facto independent and functions like a state.

It is organized as a presidential republic with its own government, parliament, military, police, and postal system. Its authorities have adopted a constitution, flag, a national anthem, and a coat of arms.

Transnistria is located mostly in a strip between the Dniester River and Ukraine. After the dissolution of the USSR, Transnistria declared independence leading to the war with Moldova that started in March 1992 and was concluded by the ceasefire of July 1992.
(It seems all these break away republics ended wars in 1991-92.)

What's interesting is: as part of that agreement, a three-party (Russia, Moldova, PMR) Joint Control Commission supervises the security arrangements in the demilitarized zone, comprising 20 localities on both sides of the river. Although the ceasefire has held, the territory's political status remains unresolved, and Transnistria has been de facto independent since that time.

Transnistria is sometimes compared with other post-Soviet frozen conflict zones such as Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia.

So you see, South Ossetia and Abkhazia are not alone in wanting to be recognized.

EU-brokered six-point peace plan

On August 12, 2008
Russian President Medvedev met the President-in-Office of the European Union, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and approved a six-point peace plan. Late that night Georgian President Saakashvili agreed to the text. Sarkozy's plan originally had just the first four points. Russia added the fifth and sixth points. Georgia asked for the additions in parentheses, but Russia rejected them, and Sarkozy convinced Georgia to agree to the unchanged text.

1. No recourse to the use of force.

2. Definitive cessation of hostilities.

3. Free access to humanitarian aid (addition rejected: and to allow the return of refugees).

4. Georgian military forces must withdraw to their normal bases of encampment.

5. Russian military forces must withdraw to the lines prior to the start of hostilities. While awaiting an international mechanism, Russian peacekeeping forces will implement additional security measures (addition rejected: six months).

6. Opening of international discussions on the modalities of lasting security in Abkhazia and South Ossetia (addition rejected: based on the decisions of the U.N. and the O.S.C.E.).

According to RIA Novosti (Someone here at Party Builder ragged on me that this is a biased site since it's Russian...LOL. Anyway, Novosti...), "Sarkozy told a briefing after talks with his Georgian counterpart that the deal also includes some changes requested by Georgia... 'we have removed the issue of South Ossetia's status from the document'" But the New York Times, citing a Georgian negotiator, reported that Sarkozy convinced Georgia to accept the Russian version unchanged.
On August 14, Medvedev met with South Ossetia President Eduard Kokoity and Abkhazia President Sergei Bagapsh, where they signed the six principles.

Bush was giving a speech in Tbilisi's Freedom Square, a live hand grenade meant for Saakashvili and Bush landed in the crowd about 65 feet (20m) from the podium after hitting a girl, but failed to detonate? Well, Vladimir Arutyunian was arrested in July of that year, but before his capture he managed to kill one law enforcement agent. He was convicted of the attempted assassinations of Saakashvili and Bush and the murder of the agent, and given a life sentence.

Planned Killings

He accused Saakashvili of ordering killings: Okruashvili said he was personally ordered by the president to liquidate Badri Patarkatsishvili, a business tycoon and co-owner of Imedi. Irakli Okruashvili also spoke about Saakashvili's "inability" to reclaim Georgia's lost territories, and his protective and corrupt policies toward his family members. He said that at one point, he had "almost returned one of [Georgia's] lost territories [to Georgia]," but because of "Saakashvili's incapability," he had to "back off."

In 2004, Okruashvili launched an abortive attack in Georgia's breakaway province of South Ossetia. Okruashvili also said he assumes responsibility for knowing all this and keeping silent -- until now, that is. He said he wanted to "unite Georgia" and this is why he did not voice his concerns. Reactions Follow Party Lines Members of the administration and the ruling party dismissed and ridiculed Okruashvili's statements. Nodar Grigalashvili, a deputy from the ruling National Movement party, said Okruashvili's claims were not even worth investigating.

"Now, let's imagine that suddenly you say that I am planning to dig a tunnel from Mumbai to London -- or that I have already done so," he said. "What are you going to investigate? I have not done this tunnel, there's nothing to investigate here." But other politicians believe there should be an independent investigation. "If anyone suspects that Saakashvili was planning an attack on Patarkatsishvili, or that he killed Zhvania -- this will be proved true if the government refuses to launch an independent investigation," Kakha Kukava, an opposition deputy, said. There has not yet been a response from Saakashvili, who is currently in New York at the UN General Assembly.

The crowd also called for early parliamentary elections. They accused Saakashvili of heading a corrupt, authoritarian government and wanted him to be ousted democratically.

The 2007 Georgian demonstrations were a SERIES of anti-government protests in Georgia. The demonstrations peaked on November 2, 2007, when 50,000 rallied in downtown Tbilisi, capital of Georgia. People protested against the allegedly corrupt government of president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Shortly afterwards, Mikheil Saakashvili declared a state of emergency Georgia-wide to last for 15 days. As a result, news programs at all the private television stations will be shut down for 15 days. The publicly-funded Georgian Public Broadcasting (GPB) remained the only station allowed to provide news coverage.

During the morning rush hour on 31 October 2007, a bomb exploded on a passenger bus in the city, killing at least 8 people and injuring about 50 in what Irina Doroshenko, a spokeswoman for the investigative wing of the local prosecutor’s office said could be a terrorist attack.

An investigation is ongoing, but it is believed to be the work of terrorists from the North Caucasus (Georgia region).

What will Russia Do? The media keeps asking, stupid question. Russia's not there on a military confrontation, a take over or to rob anyone of oil, but rather a peace keeping mission and they came at the request of South Ossetia when they came under fire from Georgians.

ANSWER:
Russia will be there for 3 days. There are reports today that Russia advanced into the city of Senaki. Why? oH no! Is this a take over?
No. It's where the Georgian military installation is. Russia first swept the area for mines and explosives and now they're securing risks at the military base.

"The Russians aren't leaving Gori," Temur Iakobashvili, Georgia's minister for reintegration issues, said by phone. "They're planting bombs in buildings and blowing up infrastructure." (These people are lame...they never offer a link or film with it dated properly.)

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the U.S. of ignoring Georgia's aggression in attacking South Ossetia, describing Georgia's leadership as "a special project of the United States."
He told reporters that Russian forces Wednesday had NOT targeted Georgian ships in Poti, and that military actions within the country were aimed at eliminating large troves of ammunition and supplies left behind by fleeing Georgian troops.

North Ossetia Suffers Gas Sabotage in 2006

North Ossetia sabotages were two explosions which occurred on the main branch and a reserve branch of the Mozdok-Tbilisi pipeline in the Russian border region of North Ossetia at around 03:00 local time (24:00 GMT) on January 22, 2006.

The electricity transmission line in Russia's southern region of Karachayevo-Cherkessiya - also near the Georgian border - was brought down by an explosion just hours later. The explosions suspended gas supply to Georgia and Armenia, at a time when the weather conditions were particularly severe.

Georgian authorities claimed the explosions were a deliberate act of sabotage, to force the nation into surrendering its pipelines to the Russian state owned monopoly Gazprom. Russia dismisses the accusations, claiming the charges were set by Chechen terrorists; the Chechen separatists rejected the accusation.

There seems to be a history of repeated attacks on Russia or Russians people. It's no wonder they are going to pound people back when they strike. And we are hypocrites.

BP Comes to the Rescue

BP Said Russian Jets Did NOT Attack Oil Pipeline in Georgia

Spokesman of British Petroleum has refuted the allegation of Georgia about Russia's air attacks on the oil pipeline.
According to Georgia, Russia's jets unsuccessfully attacked Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline Saturday. They fired 51 missiles and explosion craters are seen at the distance of a few dozen meters from the facilities.

The thorough check didn't reveal any traces of bombing in the pipeline area, said a representative of BP.
Proving Saakashvili is story telling, like claiming Russian's are moving deeper into the territory to rape, when he approved they sweep for mines and break down unexploded arsenals.
Saakashvili approved of this through the cease fire agreement yesterday, guess he's got early stages of Alzheimers, paranoia or master fibber.

Some employees of BP are still in Georgia but they will probably leave the country after the British Foreign Office urged all British residents to hasten out of it while the air traffic is available and the border is open.

Georgia WAS Bush's poster child for democracy. This was the picture he wanted to paint in the Middle East. He thought it would be 4 months and they would throw rose petals. Funny, every time Georgia has a rally, they thrust roses in the air and when Saakashvili was inaugurated they threw roses at his feet. They deserve each other.

On April 9, 1991, shortly before the collapse of the USSR, Georgia declared independence.

If Georgia can declare themselves independent, why won't they let South Ossetia be independent? Why not Abkhazia?

Why did they shoot them in the back while sleeping?

Why did they set young girls on fire?

Why did they roll over women and babies with tanks?

Why do they kill mercenaries?

Why do they kill volunteers?

Why did they kill anyone?

August 8, after Georgian Interior Ministry units opened a campaign to retake the separatist territory of South Ossetia, civilians scrambled to escape the conflict zone. They had moved to the capitol, still on South Ossetia territory.

Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze has said that the government will continue the campaign against South Ossetian separatists until "a durable peace" can be established in the breakaway region. How do you gain peace when you kill and stomp on people. You die once. The leftovers hate you and will not peace with you.

This is about Georgia's former autonomous region of South Ossetia, which evolved in 1989 and developed into a civil war in 1991 - 1992.
Despite a declared ceasefire and numerous peace efforts, the conflict remains unresolved, minor armed incidents persist and a large part of the region is still out of control of the central Georgian government. In August 2008, diplomatic tensions and clashes between Georgia and South Ossetia erupted into the 2008 South Ossetia War.

While reading, keep in mind who the aggressor is. I was astonished at the actions of this so called democratic Georgia and what it perpetrated against South Ossetian's.

Media - Can You Be Objective on What Russia Wants?

I keep hearing Anderson Cooper and other networks ask the question, "What will Russia do?"

Stupid question, they are not going into Georgia on a military confrontation, but rather a peace keeping mission! They don't want land, oil resources, or to harm anyone, or bomb pipelines or to interrupt food supplies from coming into the ports. They admitted to wanting to help refugees and admitted damaging military bases and stockpiles of arsenal, a road and airport (a couple other things I can't think of at the moment...relating to preventing Georgia from hurting more innocent people).
