Gobal Poverty Act

Can someone give me some information about this. My boss keeps telling me that this is going to create a tax on Americans for the UN. I've Googled it and all I can find out is either that it's going to bankrupt us or help to reduce poverty by half by the year 2015. I guess my boss thinks we should just vote for McCain so we can give all our money to Iraq instead.

Thanks for the help.

I'm getting a little worried

I have seen several posts lately talking about our party being able to come together after this primary to stand behind our candidate. But I also am seeing several viscous attacks coming from both sides that seem to be escalating out of control. I know we are down to the wire and want to see our candidates win but let's stop tearing each other up in the process. We have our reason's for supporting our candidates and that's good but that doesn't negate other's reasons for supporting their candidate. In the end we are going to have to be able get behind the person who wins the nomination. If that's Hillary I know I'm going to really have to work hard at it since I have some real problems with her, but I'm going to make the effort if it comes to that. I'll need help from her supporters and don't want to alienate them in this process. Just as they may need us if Barack wins.

Let's discuss our differences, let's keep it civil, if someone's post rattles your nerves don't immediately fire off a heated response, take a little time, think about it try to see where they are coming from and don't assume the worst. Then craft your reply.

In the end, let's show those Republicans how things should be done.

This letter brings sad news to Andrew Duck supporter. We put up a good fight but we lost the primary to Jenifer Dougherty on tuesday.
Thanks to everyone for their support and lets get behind Jenifer and see if we can unseat Roscoe Bartlett.
Let's not repeat the Bush/Gore election with our nomination

I have been hearing a lot about "super delegates" lately. I have also noticed that even though Barack Obama has one more primaries than Hillary Clinton that many of the major news agencies still give her a higher delegate count than Obama mostly due to these "super delegates".

If Barack Obama wins the popular vote in the primaries and then the nomination is given to Hillary because of the "super delegates" we may find ourselves in a losing position come November. I know that I for one will be extremely disappointed in our party if this happens. It will look too much like what happened to Al Gore in 2000. If Hillary wins the popular vote and takes the nomination I will vote for her, but if she loses the popular vote and gets the nomination because of the super delegates, I'll vote for someone else and I would be willing to bet that many other Democrats will do the same. Let's not let that happen.

Roscoe Bartlett calls for higher gas prices.

At a town hall meeting in Mt. Air recently Congressman Roscoe Bartlett called for higher gas prices as a strategy to get consumers to conserve more.

Here is the press release from Andrew Duck issued as a response to Roscoe's energy plan.

AS OIL COMPANIES POST RECORD PROFITS,
BARTLETT SAYS "GAS NEEDS TO COST MORE"

MT. AIRY, MD, November 18 -- At a town hall forum on energy in Mt. Airy yesterday, Republican Congressman Roscoe Bartlett said he thought "gasoline needs to cost more that it already does" in order to promote conservation. He also said that "too many people are driving pickup trucks as personal transportation."

Gas prices have risen almost 20 cents per gallon nationwide in the past month, and average about $3 per gallon in Maryland. At the same time, major oil companies have posted record profits over the past two years, and Bartlett has voted for billions of dollars in subsidies to them.

Bartlett presented an Al Gore-style slide show on energy Saturday to about 50 citizens at the Mt. Airy Town Hall. In it, he called for greater emphasis on alternative energy.

Unfortunately, there is an "inconvenient truth" about Bartlett's voting record on energy issues: Both recently and through the years, he has voted against alternative energy and for Big Oil.

In August of this year, he voted against a House amendment to require utilities to supply 15% of their electricity from renewable sources (H Amdt 748).
He at first voted against HR 2776, which provides tax incentives for alternative energy production, extends the tax credit for homeowners who install solar, and increases the number of hybrid cars eligible for tax credits.
In July, he voted against the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act.
In 2005, he voted for HR 3893, which allows the President to give away Federal land to oil companies for building refineries.
In 2001, he voted for the SAFE Act, which provided $50 billion in tax breaks and subsidies to Big Oil.
Bartlett has received approximately $25,000 from oil and gas company PACs since being elected to Congress.

Democratic candidate Andrew Duck said "it is disappointing, but not surprising, that Rep. Bartlett's votes don't match his words on energy. It was shocking, however, to hear him call for higher gas prices when people in the 6th District are struggling and oil companies are increasing profits by double digits every year."

"Bartlett talks like an environmentalist, but votes like a Texas oilman," Duck said.

Duck has proposed a plan to make the U.S. energy independent within 10 years through conservation and doubling investment in alternatives. "Energy independence is a critical national security issue, as well as an environmental, economics and jobs issue," Duck said.

New Poll Shows Andrew Duck ahead of Incumbant Rosco Bartlett

I received an exciting e-mail today from the Andrew Duck campaign and wanted to share it with everyone who will look. Here are some clips from the e-mail.

"WOODSBORO, MD, November 6 -- Democratic Congressional candidate Andrew Duck leads incumbent 6th District Congressman Roscoe Bartlett by a point in a poll taken over the last weekend in October. The survey of 400 likely voters showed Duck ahead 39%-38%, a statistical tie, with 20% undecided. Only 26% of those surveyed favored Bartlett's re-election."

In the poll, we simply told voters who Roscoe is, in his own words, and who I am, in my own words. And that's what we need to do to win next November, because when voters hear who the candidates really are, they don't vote for Roscoe Bartlett.

This shows that we really have a chance to win. We can finally get rid of Rosco and his close minded lack of attention to his constituents. But to do it we are going to need money. I know everyone else on this site is asking for contributions but it is really important that we get the resources that we need this time around. If there is any chance that anyone reading this can contribute to our campaign, please consider helping us. We have this chance to replace another Republican with a Democrat and a really good man.

Thank you for your support and your time. Here is the link if you can help.
Easy way to stop the war

Everybody is talking about sending a new bill to the President that he will sign to fund the war. I have an idea, we sent him a bill, he rejected it, let's NOT send him another one. No bill, no funding. The war ends when the current funding runs out.

You let congress take no action on this and see how long it takes for the President to beg for the original bill.

Andrew Duck is back in the ring!

I logged on for the first time since November this morning to find that Andrew Duck is making another run for Congress in 2008. I'm very happy to see it! He is the man for the job.

What we need to do tomorrow

I know we are all excited about the election today. But no matter the outcome we need to still take action tomorrow.

During this whole election cycle President Bush has been saying that the Demacrats have no plan for victory in Iraq, and in a way he's right. After this election is over we as a party need to get together with people like General Wesley Clark and others and formulate a plan for victory. We need to have something real to stand on.

We can't continue to run on being the alternative to the Republicans bad record.
We need show that we are tuff on terror in a way that protects our rights, and freedoms.

Rebublicans Claim There will Be Gridlock if Balence Returns to Congress

The President and Republicans are claiming that if the Demacrats regain seats in the House and Senate that gridlock will return. We need to remind these people that it takes two parties to creat gridlock. It sounds like they are stating that they have no intention of working with their colleages from accross the isle.

So the next time some one warns of the return of gridlock, remind them that it takes two to gridlock!

Duck for Congress!!

Here in Western Maryland we are trying to unseat incumbant Congressman Roscoe Bartlett. Mr Bartlett has been reprisenting us for 18 years and it's time for a change.

Andrew Duck is an native of Western Maryland and has served in the military. He is in touch with the values of Western Maryland and will represent the people of this region well.

His military experience in Bosnia and Iraq gives him true insight to the situation in Iraq today.

He has plans for energy independance and education.

I think he will make a fine representative for Western Maryland.

Why isn't election day a national holiday?

We have all these national holidays like Presidents day or Memorial day and Columbus day (We now know that Columbus was not the first European to discover America in fact he never even made it to the mainland). Why isn't election day a national holiday? Isn't it about the most important day for our democracy? Wouldn't that help to bring home to the millions who don't vote every year the importance of voting? Just a thought.
