Both John McCain and Sarah Palin's acceptance speeches may have claimed to the promise of change, but that they both did nothing but promise more of the same failed neo-liberal economics that the Bush Administration has been shoving down our throats for the past 8 years.
I hope that Americans see through their theater to the truth of what they were offering which is MORE OF THE SAME, and possibly even worse. You hear a lot about "individual responsibility" and very little about community. People like the McCain's think they have done their work if they adopt one child from Bangledesh. I was struck by the irony of Cindy McCain talking about helping to start programs to clean up unexploded munitions and the fact that the legislation that her husband voted for did a lot to put them there in the first place.
HERE IS ONE OF THE CORNERSTONES OF THE REPUBLICAN ECONOMIC NEO-LIBERALISM:
ELIMINATING THE CONCEPT OF “THE PUBLIC GOOD” or “COMMUNITY” and replacing it with “individual responsibility.” Pressuring the poorest people in a society to find solutions to their lack of health care, education and social security all by themselves — then blaming them, if they fail, as “lazy.”

We have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world, but we HAVE THE LOWEST COLLECTION RATE. ON AVERAGE CORPORATE AMERICA, LIKE WARREN BUFFETT PAY 17%. Reducing that Tax rate doesn't change a damn thing for Americans. How about if we start COLLECTING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT would make a difference.

During Early Voting and on Election Day, it is important for informed Democrats to serve as Poll Watchers, volunteers who are allowed to observe the voting process in the polling place. There are rules and procedures to follow. Your county Democratic Party will offer training to Poll Watchers.
We have poll watchers and poll greeters. Poll watchers are inside the polling place and we are part of the process as observers to make sure that things are done correctly by the Republicans who are in charge of our polling places. Usually one poll watcher is allowed per polling place. {In Texas, the party who won the last General Election is in charge of the polling places.} The Poll watchers are from the other party--that's us.
Poll Greeters are outside the 100-foot marker and their activities are not very restricted. They can electioneer, help voters with ballots, wave candidate signs, and help support Democrats in the voting process as long as they stay outside the 100 ft marker of the polling place. we will need lots of poll greeters too.

The cynical way that Republicans deal with social issues is by changing the vocabulary and statistics--not the actual real life situation for Americans.
Take the issue of hunger in our nation--an issue with with few Republicans have first hand experience. Hunger goes hand in hand with poverty and homelessness--more issues that Republicans are famous for turning away from--in spite of the fact that so many of them create it with the legislation that they support.

The same people who do not like the Bush Administration for what it has done to this nation are not going to be fooled by the lipstick on the pig. And if they think that the American public are so stupid that they will rush over now and kiss their pig of a platform because it is wearing a fresh touch of lipstick, well I think they will be surprised. Americans would do well to stop and consider where the Republican game ends. If the Republicans had their way what will our country look like? We see the outer edges of this picture already and it is not a happy snapshot. After eight years of their rule we have a crumbling infrastructure, rising unemployment, millions of jobs shipped out of this country, a broken budget, gasoline prices that few can afford to pay at the pump, rising healthcare costs and few Americans able to afford health insurance. What does it take for Americans to wake up and see how the Republicans are destroying our nation?
Republicanism carried to its ultimate end will yield a police state. That is where right-wing conservatism ends—in a police state. The tax burden would all be on the middle class and the poor and most would work for corporations at whatever salary the leaders of these monstrosities deemed “appropriate” because there would be no unions and no branches of government to represent the people. Under the ultimate right-wing Republican regime we would have one branch of government—the military/police and the majority of the citizen would be serfs to corporations—that is the true conservative’s wet dream.
Remember, these are the people who built Guantanamo and whose leader told us that the Constitution of the United States of America is nothing but a GD piece of paper. This is who these people really are and they have the nerve to call themselves patriots? Traitor is more like it.

Already the sexism whines have begun because of the mention of it. Last night an interviewer asked Carly Fiona if she thought that the media was being sexist and Fiona replied that she did when they referred to Palin as a "cheerleader".
Did Ms. Fiona perhaps forget that the current President of the United States is himself an ex-cheerleader? Bush attended the all-boys school Philllips Academy in Andover, massachusetts and during his senior year was the head cheerleader.
I disagree with Ms Fiona's assessment that using the Cheerleader label is "sexist". It is a label that is used to imply that a person is vacous and in both Ms. Palin's as well a George Bush's cases, it is appropriate and fitting and has nothing to do with sexism.
Trading one cheerleader on the executive team for another? Thanks but no Thanks. And sorry, Carley, but your sexism whine does not apply here.
