Okay, am I going to apologize for something I had no control over? No. I do not carry the burden of guilt for that. Besides, my family paid in blood with Southern men who volunteered to fight for the Union because slavery was wrong. So - apologize? No. And to whom? I could go down to TN and go find an old slave cemetery and apologize to some rock markers in the ground, but I don't think that's what you want.

It gets tricky trying to extract a heartfelt apology from people more than 100 years removed from the thing they're supposed to apologize for.

See LPD's post below for info on the challenge.

Since I am of neutral mind and not opposed to any of the Democratic candidates, I will be writing a number of heartfelt, sincere, and original posts praising Senator Obama, and the same for Senator Clinton. Anyone who wants something nice to say about one of them for the CHALLENGE, can email me, and for a $5 donation to MY favorite charity, I'll send you something positive to post.

Thanks, and have a great challenge.
Welcome to GAFFEWATCH 2008!

God forbid that anyone who has been campaigning for 12 months now day in and day out speaking to people and doing interviews should fuck up a response to a question.

I'm gonna go completely rogue here, and suggest that this doesn't really impress me in the least as an actual reason why people shouldn't vote for McCain.

Obviously, the system is not working the way we'd all like for it to.

I have some personal experience in the system. After my divorce, I wanted to go back and finish my incomplete university degree. I had two small children, no child support, and a low income. To my thinking, someone in that position should have been the welfare system's Golden Child. Working, with 3 years of university already passed, just needing 3 more semesters to complete a degree.... obviously not a habitual welfare recipient.

But what I found was that I had to fight, argue, appeal, struggle, beg and humiliate myself in order to get the assistance that was absolutely necessary if I was going to improve things for myself and my kids. Anyone with less then EXTREME determination would have been deterred by the red tape and the discouraging amount of time that has to be spent literally begging and justifying yourself. It would have been much more simple to give up hope and accept a life of low income unskilled labor and live in low income housing and raise kids with no aspirations.

But that's just one example. The system is broken.

What do we do?

For those of you with lots to say, there's a cool, new invention....

If nothing else, can we all agree that the Democratic wagon is a heck of a lot better for ALL of us than the GOP wagon?

How many female or minority presidential candidates did the GOP offer America?  NONE.

How many pro-women, pro-children, pro-education, pro-worker's, or pro-healthcare legislation has the GOP endorsed?  NONE.

Let's all just be thankful to be having these types of discussions on the Democratic bandwagon site.....we'd ALL be banned from the GOP site a long time ago with pleasure!

Cheers to my fellow Blue friends!

A few months ago, Democratic voter registration surpassed Republican.  We held our state Democratic convention and had over 3,000 people attend....more than 2,000 more than usual.  Now, here comes even better news....the Republicans couldn't get enough delegates to RSVP their state convention to get a quorum, so they're cancelling!  This is shocking!

Dust off those blue, suede cowboy boots, people!

GOP cancels state convention; panel to pick Nevada national delegates

True story...how fitting!

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- A measure seeking to commemorate President Bush's years in office by slapping his name on a San Francisco sewage plant has qualified for the November ballot.

The measure certified Thursday would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.

Supporters say the idea is to commemorate the mess they claim Bush has left behind by actions such as the war in Iraq.

I am sad for all of us who knew Paul Thompson-- I laugh when I think of his great sense of humor... Have fallen off my chair and had tears in my eyes at some of his comments and blogs... Have never cried so hard reading a blog as I did when I read about his son Kenny who died tragically as a teen.

The one thing I do know is that Paul is where he needs to be-- WITH KENNY!! I have been humming/singing this song lately in memory of Paul. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRsJlAJvOSM

I MISS YOU PAUL-- Blessings to all of his friends and family,
Gretchen

The spate of accusations and counter-accusations has hit an all-time high, and we've degenerated into endless bickering and finger-pointing. One hardly knows whether to laugh or cry.   Read More »
Here's a reality check, and for those of you who read and pay attention to this, it should scare you.

You live in the United States of America. It's a large country. It's a rich country and has a mighty military, so Americans have had a place at the top of the global foodchain for the last couple of hundred years. Most of what you hear is about America. Most of your TV shows are American shows. The talk shows are about America, the evening news shows are about America, the newspapers are about America. If you aren't VERY, very careful, you might let the importance of AMERICA get blown way out of proportion in your thinking. Like to somewhere around 99 or 100%. If you aren't careful.   Read More »
Calling all OBAMA SUPPORTERS:

If there is a way to knock Senator Obama out of the race and make Senator Clinton the Democratic candidate in November, would she get your vote ?

When I was a little girl, my mom told me I could be whatever I wanted.  I could choose to be a doctor or a teacher or a police woman.  My mom taught me to speak my mind with logic, reason and common sense.  She taught me that it was no sense in roaring if all you wanted to hear was your own voice, so use it wisely.

Well, I'm using it NOW.  I will choose which Party to belong.  I will choose who to vote for President.  And, I will choose which issue I want to talk about each week whether or not a man or group of looney tunes say that is 'resisting' discussing women's issues.

How dare you?  How dare you condemn our votes...our choices....while asking to have a civilized discussion on a topic so personal and relevant to my life?  Our lives?

Y'all don't even have a clue how ironic this 'resistance' crap you made up is, do you?  Makes me want to sing a Carly Simon tune.....

Remember...MY choice, MY vote.

Cheerleaders for McCain!

Now, BUMP that GOP pretender to the throne outta here!

Get ready to fist bump, disco bump and belly bump all the way to November people!  We've got ourselves a DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE.....yeah, he's no peanut farmer or backwoods Governor to worry about 'experience.'  We've got ourselves a Harvard Law man who's been a senator in his state and Congress.  HECK, YEAH, we're excited.

For those who have been around Partybuilder long enough, you’ll recognize “Kenny’s Dad” as being the way my friend Paul Thompson ended many of his posts here.

Paul’s son Bill contacted me this morning to inform me that our friend passed away suddenly on June 4th. Bill regretted that in sending out the word of his father’s passing he had forgotten those of us who were Paul’s friends online, though he said Paul spoke fondly of us, and had relayed how much fun he had in the spirited debates here on Partybuilder. I assured Bill that he owed us no apology, and that those of us who knew and loved Paul so much, though we never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, would greatly miss him. God, that is true. Paul’s son Kenny passed away several years ago from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Paul often spoke of how he took comfort in knowing that Kenny’s life continued in others, for which Kenny’s donated organs made life possible. In memory of Paul and of Kenny, I ask everyone who is not already a confirmed organ donor to please consider this now, and talk with your loved ones. Kenny would have graduated from high school this year, and Bill said the whole family was comforted that Paul was able to attend the graduation of Kenny’s class before his death.
Here is Paul’s http://www.macombdaily.com/stories/060508/obi_obits09.shtml official obituary it suggests donations in Paul’s memory be made to his scout troop.   Read More »
