For some, when you lay out a welcome matt they think it's an invitation to walk right over you and that's the strategy of the big red machine! Never before has a whisper campaign been created with such a prominent undercurrent than this year. It's all over the net. Somehow the misinformation and just plain lies have even made their way to my inbox from unwitting relatives and friends forwarding emails. Some of the claims are so ridiculous they're almost believable cause they're too far fetched to be made up! Some on our side laugh, but the Red Machine are hoping for just that as they secretly plot for a slight fragmentation of the Obama confederation to whittle away at his lead. And in those who are looking for an excuse not to vote for a man with a unique name and who is also of African American heritage, no counter measures will ever change the doubt in their minds. But others are not beyond reproach and the blue counter insurgency can, should and must reach out to them.

As Obama supporters we've rallied behind our candidate and are fighting the disinformation and lies. Following the last Presidential election we're ready for the challenge. However, we must remember that the other side are infectious termites and as such eat away at our foundation. I learned long ago that as with termites it's not a question of; "Is this house infected?" but how badly is it infected. Therefore we must not rest for the enemy never sleeps.

And aiding in their campaign to dissenfranchise Democratic voters and Republicans leaning blue on the net, Fox has begun a dissinformation campaign of it's own. A few of their 'Oops, sorry' but now the seed is planted gaffs have included, a paid FOX commentator accidentally confuseing "Obama" with "Osama" and then joking on the air about killing Obama, a FOX anchor saying a playful fist pound by Barack and Michelle Obama could be a "terrorist fist jab." And lastly (for the moment) on air talent calling Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama" which is ghetto slang used to describe the unmarried mother of a man's child.

If we hope to keep this a campaign of issues and not insinuations we must all stand vigilant and active. Exercising your right to vote is not enough when the stakes are this high. Tell a friend to tell a friend and help light the fire of change and seat our man in Washington!

Its more than a month since Obama has been the "presumptive" nominee and STILL the focal point of the O-supporters is Hillary Clinton.

Is that because you people know he doesnt stand a chance in hell ?

Is it because secretly you have voters remorse or worry you have pissed your vote away only to have given the Presidency to McCain ?

Is it because you know Clinton was the one who would have won the white house, whether you liked her or not.

If not worried, than why not concentrate on ALL THOSE independents and "cross-over" republicans that will "ROCKET" Obama into the White House ?

FISA bothering you??? It would me.

Just a bit more "Audacity of hypocrisy" but this time its in YOUR face !

For ALL of the "momentum" and ALL the (republican) money, and the Oprah rallys, it wasnt a landslide.
Obama BARELY won and under VERY questionable circumstances.

You wanted "UNITY" !
You said there were ..."No blue States or RED States, there are the United States".

So go out there and get your UNITY, get the repubs and independents to vote for him in the general election.

No problems right???

Or did they vote for him in the Primary with NO intention of voting for him in the general ?

Looks like operation Chaos did indeed work out for the repubs.

To borrow a line from the good Reverend; "Why are folks hatin' on Hillary Clinton" ??

We needed another Clinton, a Democrat in the white house, you O-people have given us President "elect" McCain.

A synthetic chemical widely used in the manufacture of computers and flat-screen televisions is a potent greenhouse gas, with 17,000 times the global warming effect of carbon dioxide, but its measure in the atmosphere has never been taken, nor is it regulated by international treaty. The information was revealed today in an L.A. Times article.

The chemical, nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), could be considered the "missing greenhouse gas," atmospheric chemists Michael J. Prather and Juno Hsu of UC Irvine wrote in a paper released June 26 in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. "With the surge in flat-panel displays, the market for NF3 has exploded."

Alarm bells have begun to ring in climate scientest quarters with the increased production. According to calculations by Chemists Proather and Hsu it has a life of 550 yeaers.

When the Kyoto Protocol, the 1997 international global warming treaty, was negotiated to control the rapid rise of planet-warming gases, NF3 was a niche product used in modest amounts in the semiconductor industry.

At the time, computer chip manufacturers used perfluorocarbons to clean the vacuum chambers where integrated circuits were made. But about two-thirds of the PFCs escaped into the atmosphere, contributing to the greenhouse effect, a warming of the Earth's surface.

Reacting to environmental concerns, the industry sought a substitute -- and estimated that NF3, was less likely to escape into the air though it had much greater potential for causing global warming. "The world's leading producer is air products in Allentown, PA stating they moved into the production of NF3 for environmental reasons. The company received a 2002 Climate Protection Award from the Environmental Protection Agency for its transition.

Last year, Air Products announced a major production expansion at its U.S. and Korean plants. About three-quarters of the chemical is now used to manufacture computer microchips; the rest is used to make liquid crystal display panels on flat-screen televisions, Painter said.

Overall, world production of NF3 is likely to reach 8,000 tons a year by 2010 as stated by an executive at AIr Products. That is the equivalent of more than 130 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. By comparison, according to the UC Irvine paper, a major coal-fired power plant producing 3,600 megawatts of electricity emits as much as 25 million metric tons of carbon dioxide a year.
Prather stated that about 2% of NF3 is emitted during manufacturing and that much of that is burned off before reaching the atmosphere. "a slippery gas" such as NF3 could easily leak out undetected during manufacture, transport, application or disposal. "We don't know if 1% is getting out or 20% is getting out. . . . But once you let the genie out of the bottle, you can't get it back in."

Prather also said UC Irvine researchers were working on a method to measure concentrations of the gas in the atmosphere so that industry emissions estimates would not be the only source of information.

Atmospheric scientists not connected with the paper said the authors had raised a significant issue for future climate negotiations.

"NF3 lives a very long time in the atmosphere," said Charles E. Kolb Jr., an IPCC scientist with Massachusetts-based Aerodyne Research Inc.

"We are having a hard enough time controlling carbon dioxide and methane -- we shouldn't be creating a new problem."

We need to know how much of these super-greenhouse gases are up there."

The Kyoto Protocol covered six greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, PFCs and sulfur hexafluoride.

Shouldn't the government be looking into this? Would this be an issue Barack Obama and the Democrats might sieze and take the lead on? Is it worth mentioning at all at this stage? And lastly, are there even any real answers for the public to discuss and consider?

Happy Independence Day everyone!! Today our nation celebrates it's Declaration of Independence from the British Empire. After much sacrifice from that generation, our nation would go on to become the first that was built upon the liberal ideals of the Enlightenment. Our nation would become a bastion of freedom, and the "city on the hill" for the world to aspire to.   Read More »

PSSST DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOU KNOW WHOS WAR RECORD

Memo to Democrats: McCain's War Service Is Off Limits[u]

In case you missed it: Interviewed by CBS' Bob Schieffer on Sunday's Face the Nation, Clark said that for all the national security experience John McCain claims, he never held a position of command during wartime. "I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war," Clark said. "He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in the armed forces as a prisoner of war. [H]

He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee and he has traveled all over the world. But he hasn't held executive responsibility." Clark then continued, "But he hasn't held executive responsibility. [H]

That large squadron in Air -- in the Navy that he commanded, it wasn't a wartime squadron. He hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall. He hasn't seen what it's like when diplomats come in and say, 'I don't know whether we're going to be able to get this point through or not. Do you want to take the risk? What about your reputation? How do we handle it publicly?' He hasn't made those calls, Bob." [h]

AND THEN HE SAID...OH NO...

CLARK: Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.[H]   Read More »
Here's my post from last year that I dedicated to our troops. http://www.democrats.org/page/community/post/michellepernula/Cq4m

It saddened me on two fronts: First only two people cared to respond about our troops; Secondly, the first response killed me, she refused to give in to the spirit of supporting our troops and dedicating at least one post for them.

Let's change how we care about our troops this year...I miss our troops, we've forgotten them, the media has been pressure to forget them and our Congress wants to give them another 6 months indefinitely because they fear moving them, but they certainly didn't fear putting them over there in harms way! I think it's because we don't have the funds to move them back and it's wrecking havoc on our economy.

Let's not let our troops down again, let's keep the pressure on Congress to BRING OUR TROOPS HOME! - where they belong! Where they can be husbands, fathers, son's and a working class again, where they can protect our own soil, where they are wanted. Let's build and keep the momentum going.

"I'll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside the Oval Office." --lil GWB, Washington DC, May 12, 2008

Are you a proud American of an OIL PRESIDENT and what's he doing to our troops and our economy?

This is what we should be discussing - ISSUES. Write the media and ask for their help too focus on our troops.

"Let me start off by saying that in 2000 I said, 'Vote for me. I'm an agent of change.' In 2004, I said, 'I'm not interested in change -- I want to continue as president.' Every candidate has got to say 'change.' That's what the American people expect." Lil B, Wa DC, Mar 5, 2008

WE have the last word about "Change." Countdown.
The Defense Department is the nation's biggest polluter and they are resisting orders from the Environmental Protection Agency to clean
up Fort Meade and two other military bases where the EPA says dumped chemicals pose "imminent and substantial" dangers to public health and the environment.

The actions are part of a standoff between the Pentagon and environmental regulators that has been building during the Bush administration, leaving the EPA in a legal limbo as it addresses growing concerns about contaminants on military bases that are seeping into drinking water aquifers and soil.

Under executive branch policy, the EPA will not sue the Pentagon, as it would a private polluter. Although the law gives final say to EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson in cleanup disputes with other federal agencies, the Pentagon refuses to recognize that provision. Military officials wrote to the Justice Department last month to challenge EPA's authority to issue the orders and asked the Office of Management and Budget to intervene.

Experts in environmental law said the Pentagon's stand is unprecedented.

It appears we have another Bush administration travesty of justice and that it's going nearly unreported in the mainstream media. Why is this story not front and center? Shouldn't we bring this story front and center? The editorial department of your local paper is but a mouseclick away...Let's stand up for our rights and those of all americans as we paint Washington blue in Novemeber!

How often do we ask for our Daily Bread to be given and really believe that it will be done because it already is in motion according to devine law? Not really Obamistic blogging just reciting a mantra for change in my personal life. But isn't this election all about change for most Americans? It's about change and new beginnings, change and new life injected into the lifeless This is an election about "hope"...For so many of us it's about having the opportunity offered to compete with the best and to become the best we possibly can in all areas of our life. Barack Obama offers this hope and it is up to all of us to get that message out from those on the fence and even a few on the other side. What are your strategies to reach out? BENEATH THE SPIN • ERIC L. WATTREE

A JOURNALIST’S FIRST RESPONSIBILITY:
TO PROTECT HIS FAVORED CANDIDATE, OR THE PEOPLE’S RIGHT TO KNOW?

As anyone who has regularly read my column is fully aware, I’ve been one of Barack Obama’s most fervent supporters since hours after he first declared his intention to seek the presidency, and I continue to support that effort. But I was bitterly disappointed with the position he’s taken on the FISA bill now before the U.S. Senate, and I’ve been quite vociferous in making that disappointment known to all who would listen.

On June 20th Senator Barack Obama announced that he was supporting the current FISA bill before the senate. That bill gives retroactive immunity to all telecommunications companies against all private law suits for cooperating with the Bush administration’s program of spying on the American people without a court order, as currently required by current law.   Read More »
The recession is upon us and it hangs from our shoulders like a bad suit. Over half the population have been tightening their belts, while we pay more at the pump and at the grocery store, lay offs loom making a hot summer longer. Companies such as Siemans and Sun Microsystems are cutting back this July... Siemans alone will be releasing over 7,000 employees. As W spouted several months back; "It's not important what you call it. It's just a rough economic patch." Well it may be rough for me but economically I really don't think W can relate cause it's certainly not rough for him or his cronies. So what can we do to tough this out? Spend more and stimulate? I'd like too but I can't afford it. Perhaps we should spend less and save. Do we look ourselves in the bunker or just act a little more carefuly? Perhaps the economic indicators will cut us a break just this one time...Then again perhaps not. What do you the reader think? Got any good solutions? Maybe the answer is to work two or three jobs. That would really suck.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA warns of dangerous weather, charts seas and skies, guides the use and protection of ocean and coastal resources, and conducts research to improve understanding and stewardship of the environment.

In October 2003, the Pentagon published a report titled An Abrupt Climate Change Scenario and Its Implications for United States National Security by Peter Schwartz and Doug Randall. The authors conclude by stating that "this report suggests that, because of the potentially dire consequences, the risk of abrupt climate change, although uncertain and quite possibly small, should be elevated beyond a scientific debate to a U.S. national security concern."

In January 2007, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she would form a United States Congress subcommittee to examine global warming.   Read More »

Mitch McConnell last night cast the deciding vote against legislation to prevent steep cuts in Medicare reimbursement rates to physicians slated to take effect next week.  Without this vital legislation, millions of seniors will be unable to easily access care as many doctors are expected to stop seeing Medicare patients. The bill McConnell blocked would have been paid for by ending costly overpayments to private insurance companies and HMOs participating in Medicare, and would have improved access to mental health services for veterans and Medicare programs for rural seniors. At least 162 organizations representing seniors, patients, physicians, and other health care companies endorsed the bill that passed the House Tuesday with an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 355-59, and last night was killed in the Senate by McConnell's single vote.

Mitch McConnell once again has chosen to stand with the HMO lobby to protect their profits rather than stand up for Kentucky's seniors. His deciding vote will have disastrous effects for seniors, veterans and doctors.  It's time for all of Kentucky to send a message to Mitch McConnell; we have the opportunity in November to send Bruce Lunsford to Washington to fight for our seniors, to show true leadership and to put the interests of Kentuckians ahead of partisanship.

Since 1995, McConnell has voted to cut or voted against Medicare funding at least sixteen times. [Vote 173, 5/22/95; Vote 232, 5/52/95; Vote 296, 6/29/95; Vote 499, 10/26/95; Vote 524, 10/27/95; Vote 584, 11/17/95; Vote 159, 6/13/96; Vote 130, 6/25/97; Vote 7, 1/7/03; Vote 21, 1/23/03; Vote 89, 3/25/03; Vote 291, 11/3/05; Vote 303, 11/3/05; Vote 363, 12/21/05; Vote 62, 3/16/06; Vote 92, 3/22/07]

McConnell Has Received $803,057 From the Insurance Industry  Since his first run for Congress, McConnell has received at least $803,057 in campaign contributions from the insurance industry.  [Center for Responsive Politics

Without a fix, 60% of doctors will stop seeing new Medicare patients.A survey shows that 60% of doctors will be forced to restrict the number of new Medicare patients they see if reimbursement rates fall 10.6% on July 1, while the nonpartisan expert Medicare Payment Advisory Commission reports that already 30% of Medicare patients looking for a new primary care physician have trouble finding  one.  [AMA, 6/9/08; MedPAC, March 2008]

McConnell votes against seniors to preserve overpayments to HMOs  According to the nonpartisan, well-respected Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, private insurance companies in the Medicare Advantage program will be paid 113% of the average per-beneficiary cost - an extra $1,000 per patient - and their beneficiaries are healthier, and so less expensive to cover.  [MedPAC, March 2008; MedPAC, June 2007

Vote will cost Kentucky doctors $190 million in the first year and a half The American Medical Association says that the Medicare payment cuts for physician services will cost Kentucky physicians $190 million from July 2008 to December 2009 alone. [American Medical Association]

Please help get the word out to your friends, family and neighbors.  Please let them know it's time Kentucky elects leaders who will look out for the interests of Kentuckians.  Please tell them to vote for Bruce Lunsford.

Sincerely,

Jennifer A. Moore

According to a recent L.A. Times/Bloomberg poll released this past Wednesday, three out of four Americans, including large numbers of Republicans, blame President Bush's economic policies for making the country worse off during the last eight years. Not surprising, this reflects a sharp increase in public pessimism during the last year.

Nine percent of respondents said the country's economic condition had improved since Bush became president, compared with 75% who said conditions had worsened. Among Republicans, 42% said the country was worse off, while 26% said it was about the same, and 22% thought economic conditions had improved. Many Republicans polled admitted they'd voted for Bush in the past two elections but wouldn't do so again. That's good since he can't run again but how does that translate to Barack Obama?

We have three a three front war the Obama campaign must wage 1) Unify Democrats, 2) attract Independents to the campaign and 3) go behind the Red curtain and secretly enlighten sectors of the disenfranchised to join our ranks. Of course this all must be done with finesse while not appearing to move too far in any one direction or toward any one group or segment of any group while also being careful not to make the slightest mistake in any speech, appointment or otherwise that might be construed as fodder for the cannons of the Republican guard. It's a tall order to be had, but done with grace will take us over the beach-head and through the jungle to our prize.

We find ourselves at a cross roads and the time has come to not wrestle with each other over policy matters but to forge a sharp cohesive tool the campaign would like and desperately needs to cut a swath right through that jungle with ease. The time has come to lay down our egos and set our differences aside to ensure that we win this election. We can find ways to blame the W and hold our breath but the most powerful way to use this weapon...and we've got to come up for air sooner or later, after all we are mammals and thinking ones at that... is to use these poll numbers to unify ourselves as one voice. The time has come to shore up our support for a Democratic President and a Democratic Congress! Mount your steed ladies and gentlemen and crack those whips... Talyho!
