Democrats for change

Liberal Democrats with like minds

The Idaho Young Democrats held a caucus meeting Thursday June 12, 2008 at the Idaho Democratic Convention in Boise, Id. Matt Kopydlowski organized the caucus in just a few weeks. Honestly, when he came up with this idea, I was scared. I've been to state-wide young dems meetings before where 10 people showed up and that is when I bring 7 of them. I was worried that it would be the same ol' group of young farts networking amongst ourselves, again. Just like in 2005, just like in 2006. But, boy, did I underestimate the power of youth this year and I am proud to admit it!   Read More »
Oh, how I love Howard Dean, let me count the ways... A. 50-state-strategy B. New DNC Policy. I'm sure most of us already have looked at this, but I do have some questions about it. Can we have a discussion here about what it means?   Read More »

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/democratic_vote_count.html

Since this gives an estimate w/IA,NV,ME,WA not officially released, how would these numbers actually change? Please dont bash me for asking.

I am new to this site, I dont really know the in's and the outs but I really wanted to try and get the word out about democratic congressional candidates. I thought I could do one a day. So... So, my dad keeps forwarding me the craziest stuff about Obama and Hillary, so I retooled the great post "You Think McCain Is Here To Help" with some added facts and related it to something we both shared, Family Values, and am urging him to forward it to his friends. I thought some people on here might do the same. I could work on it a little more, but this seems like enough. Enjoy!   Read More »
This summer, President George W. Bush will smile while jaunting up the stairs to Air Force One - his laughable presidency all but over - with not a care in the world.

For 13 hours, he'll lie on a couch in the airplane, drink pomegranate-flavored water and watch reruns of Texas Rangers games from the glory days of Nolan Ryan and Jose Canseco

Eventually, he'll land in Beijing, China, for the 2008 Summer Olympics. He'll pose and smile for photos with great Chinese leaders.

You'll definitely read about it in the newspaper, and so will people just like you all over the world; and you'll probably feel pretty good when you do. Like a bottle of cheap gin the whole globe can pass around, the Olympics somehow make it okay to forget for a little while.

This is helpful for most of us, but somewhat unfortunate for the Tibetan people, whose struggle against occupation has gone on for nearly 60 years

In 1951, the Chinese government annexed Tibet and declared it part of China. In 1959, an uprising resulted in the expulsion of the Dalai Lama; since that time he has run a "government in exile" based in India and become a martyr for global political rights.

On March 10, in honor of the 49th anniversary of China's great experiment in the abuse of state sovereignty, Tibetan monks began to protest en masse the continued demonization of the Dalai Lama and China's efforts to ethnically cleanse Tibetans.

China, for its part, pledged to "resolutely crush" those people. Within days, it launched a fresh military campaign in the region. It kicked out journalists and declared no quarter on religious figures.

Anyway, a generation later, as a reward for Chinese progress and a concession that China has established itself as a modern global player, it gets to host the Olympics!

Irony in such high doses should be fatal.
Okay, We've had the house parties, we've had the training from the DNC at our state meetings, but now,

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAM?

Sorry to yell, but I'm not getting any feedback from my state coordinator and can't find anything on the national website about it. Was it just a figment of my imagination?

Tonight at our county precinct captains meeting, I met a 90-some-old democrat woman who talked about how the program I described sounded like how the democrats began organizing in New York back when Adlai Stevenson was running. Seriously, Adlai Stevenson! Is this the same program that we are still waiting for? Should we just do it ourselves using the old method or do we have new tools coming, or do I have to wait for the re-incarnation of Stevenson before this gets off the ground?

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.
P.S. I *heart* Howard Dean.
When is 1,252 greater than 1,414? Apparently when Hillary Clinton has the 1,252. Clinton is making a strong push to convince Democratic voters and superdelegats that her big-state wins matter more than Barack Obama's assortment of smaller states. What good is it, Clinton aks, for Obama to win states like Wyoming, which no Democrat can realistically win in November? So far, Obama has not issued the most relavant retort. What good is it for Clinton to win states like New York, Massachusetts and California, which no Democrat can realistically lose in November? Hillary Clinton is hanging on a thread and has one strategy left. Just words.

Admittedly, I heard about this from a very drunk friend last night.  But just because he was drunk, doesn't mean he wasn't right.

George Bush Killed Captain America

Well, I'm not disputing that it has already happened, but who can make the best argument that their candidate will be able to resurrect Captain America?  This is a purely affirmative argument, no talking about the other candidate. Not even in comparison.  Let the readers draw their own comparisions.   Read More »

DLC Underfire From IRS

What? The D doesn't stand for Democrat anymore?

And on the other topic of funny, this article is fitting for the ONION You'll laugh your photo-copied ass off. But don't do it at work. Indiana: Obama is using Purdue Students to Break Law This article is still making me giggle too much this afternoon. It might even make a good episode of "The Office" called The Audacity of Note.

"Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co workers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right. Now is the time to make real the promise of democray and transform our pending national elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity." http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.html

The following is an analysis of the Bush Administration and its deficit spending as of June 2003. I am looking for more recent information. In the meantime, I have a question. How wold increased deficit spending under a Democratic administration be effective in dealing with a steepening recession and the problem of stagflation? http://www.ctj.org/html/debt0603.htm
