This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one person and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a skin color difference.
After the Great Depression, Congress conducted numerous hearings and determined that it was ultimately the mixing of �commercial� and �investment� banking industries and the inherent conflicts of interest and fraud in some banking institutions� securities activities that caused the collapse of our financial markets. Sound familiar? Congress passed the Banking Act of 1933 commonly known as the Glass-Steagall Act which prohibited the mixing of these activities in order to prevent this from ever happening again.
In 1999, Congress repealed the Glass-Steagall Act and passed in its stead the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act which enabled commercial lenders to underwrite, trade and purchase instruments such as mortgage-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations.
Consumer groups across the nation vehemently opposed the breaking down of these barriers, we warned that this was dangerous and could lead to another financial collapse. Instead of heeding our warnings, Congressional leaders in the Senate viciously attacked the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and included amendments to eliminate it as a Red Herring. Our allies in Washington capitulated in order to protect CRA, we were placed on the defensive and we blinked.
The result, in less than ten years time the financial markets have crashed and once again Wall Street and K Street are holding our neighbors and neighborhoods hostage pointing the gun at taxpayers and saying it is the fault of CRA . This time we are prepared for the fight, we will not sit silent, we will not blink and we will not rely on others to defend us.
In 1999 the State of North Carolina passed the first anti-predatory lending legislation in the nation followed by numerous cities and states across the country and what did Washington do? The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency stepped in on the side of the lenders and pre-empted these laws and said we could not protect our own communities.
In 2001-2002, anti-predatory lending ordinances in Atlanta GA, Dayton OH, and Philadelphia PA were all overturned or preempted by the federal government. Under pressure from Wall Street or K Street many cities including Toledo and Cleveland OH repealed their ordinances and too many states threatened by Wall Street weakened their existing laws or passed laws that were worst than doing nothing. Now they are demanding that we give them $700,000,000,000.

As a constituent and supporter of CARE, I am writing to ask for your support in securing access to education around the world by co-sponsoring the Education for All Act.
Around the world today, 72 million children of primary school age are out of school and almost 60 percent of them are girls. Millions more children are enrolled in school but do not receive a quality education and are at risk of dropping out.
Basic education for girls is an investment that yields many benefits. Women who have a basic education have lower HIV infection rates and earn more money; their children are also more likely to live past their fifth birthday and suffer from lower rates of malnutrition. This positive "multiplier effect" of basic education makes it a smart and strategic sector in which to invest increased U.S. foreign assistance.
The bi-partisan Education for All Act lays out a plan for U.S. involvement in making basic education an opportunity for all children around the world. I urge you support this goal by co-sponsoring the Education for All Act of 2007 - S.1259 in the Senate or H.R.2092 in the House.

I was pretty upset when I saw this ad. So I took it upon myself to call the Family Research Council and ask them did they have a rebuttal or a press release and this is what they had to say........

We strongly condemn the tone and content of materials that were exhibited by one of the vendors at this weekend's Values Voter Summit. The materials represent an attempt at parody that crosses the line into coarseness and bias.
The exhibitor contacted our reviewer just days before the Summit by email and described material that sounded like it was devoted to political flip-flops on policy issues. When the content of the materials was brought to the attention of FRC Action senior officials today, they were removed and the exhibit was dismantled by the vendor at our insistence. It is our responsibility to fully vet materials that are offered at any event we cosponsor, but we are deeply dismayed that this vendor violated the spirit, message and tone of our event in such an offensive manner.
The Values Voter Summit represents a coming together of many long-established organizations that work across denominational and ethnic lines to celebrate and promote the family and a culture of life. We reject any communications that divide and distract us and frustrate these principles. Bishop Harry Jackson's High Impact Leadership Coalition, Gary Bauer's American Values, and Alliance Defense Fund join us in rejecting this material.
I am passing on this article from the Air Force Times about veterans who are fighting to have Segways classified in the same catagory as wheelchairs under the ADA (medical devices). Segways have been donated to over 150 disabled vets of Iraq and Afghanistan, and there are solid medical reasons for using them rather than wheelchairs. The current rules don't cover them and the proposed rules would classify them in the same catagory as golf carts and bicycles. With this blog the 100,000 point level has been broken, and even though the points do not covert to cash they do show how much work you can do. About one week ago we received a call from Afghanistan saying that my son-in-law was undergoing emergency surgery for a gall bladder problem. We latter learned that he was not recovering well and that he had been placed in ICU and might be medivaced to Germany.
We called on the LORD to protect and heal my son. We had a great Christmas, he called and videocalled almost every two to three hours he looked so good considering.Today we were notified that he is again in ICU and undergoing additional surgery.
Now I turn on the news and I hear that PM Bhutto has been assasinated and I know that it has gotten far more dangerous where my son has been stationed. I know that other mother's sons are also facing real danger as a result of this failure to focus on the Taliban and Al-Quieda. Our nation has compromised its moral authority in this region of the world when America turns a blind eye to injustice, and sacrifices freedom for safety it finds that it is caught in a quamire. We are not safer since 911 and we have made the world completely unstable.
I don't know how we fix this mess. I feel so sorry for our next President because it will take more than 8 years to clean up the mess this President has left behind.

This is a cautionary post. I was at breakfast this morning when a local African American candidate came up to me and said I see that Diane Cottoti is your candidate but don't forget about me. I said Diane is my neighbor and my friend but I had made no endorsements.
I went in to work and Farad Ali who is a close friend and ally who is running in the same at large race was livid because there was an ad that stated that I had endorsed Diane in the Black newspaper FIRST NAME on the List in a race with 9 people running for 6 spots on the November ballot, 4 of whom are African American. Such an endorsement would have negative implications for the African American candidates.
AS THE FOUNDER OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CAUCUS OF THE NC DEMOCRATIC PARTY THERE IS NO WAY IN H@!! I would undermine the candidacy of African American candidates in this manner.
Neither my husband or I recall being asked to have our name listed in such an ad. Further, as an officer of the local democratic party I would not endorse in a primary race.
