"It's time to live up to our founding promise of equality by treating all our citizens with dignity and respect. Let's enact federal civil rights legislation to outlaw hate crimes and protect workers against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. Let's repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell and demonstrate that the most effective and professional military in the world is open to all Americans who are ready and willing to serve our country. Let's treat the relationships and the families of LGBT Americans with full equality under the law."
But actions speak louder than words, and his commitment to our community goes beyond the rhetorical. Read More »
Wear your Obama shirts, hats, and buttons at your July 4th celebration, and at the Fillmore Jazz Festival.
Make a show of it.
Show your support.
And of course, drop by and say hi, at any of the Vote for Change visibility displays.
We should be setting up visibility displays at Aquatic Park on the 4th; and at two locations on Fillmore Street, at the California Street and Sutter Street stages on the 5 th and 6 th.
Thanks so much for your time and support.

My top 3:
1. Jimmy Carter. If he had been re-elected in 1980, we would no longer be dependent on foreign oil. He was really pushing solar research.
2. Robert F. Kennedy. I was in high school when he ran for President, and he was my absolute hero. When he was shot, I felt like I had been killed. it was my first experience with grief.
3. Hillary Clinton. I have admired her since the 1992 campaign. I've read all her books. I joined her Primary 2008 campaign after her first podcast, in January or February, I don't remember which month. I thought she was an excellent First Lady, And I think she is a great Senator. We have not heard the last of Hillary Clinton. Read More »
I read Bob Herbert's excellent columns in The New York Times on a regular basis. This outspoken progressive is one of my favorite writers. In today's Op-Ed piece, he really outdoes himself. I urge you to check it out.
I can't write letters to my local papers or to Congress, because the "letters" function is non-functional. Do you know if/when it will be fixed?
Anybody know of any other problems on PartyBuilder? (concerning the software only, please)
We were told months ago about the RNC's "operation chaos" which is an attempt to forestall Democratic unity.
The most significant news of the past week occurred yesterday in the House of Reps. According to Stonewall Democrats email I received, ". . . the national staff of Stonewall Democrats [joined] the National Center for Transgender Equality, The Task Force, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the ACLU and other organizations for the first-ever congressional hearing on employment protections based on gender identity."
"Turnout for the hearing was so large that an overflow room needed to be added," reported Babs Casbar, New Jersey Stonewall Democrats President. "The testimony was, at times, heartbreaking. Several Democratic lawmakers noted that addressing gender identity discrimination doesn't center on the quantity of people being discriminated against, but the depth of discrimination based on gender identity against individuals in the workplace." First, I want to take a moment to thank the volunteers that came out today. All of you were great. Thank you so much.
We distributed around 350 buttons. The crowd at the Ferry Building was exceptionally large, due to the 2 concerts going on in the area. The Vote for Change displays were setup right in front of the Ferry Building at the cross walk, from 8 am to 2 pm, and I believe visibility averaged about 5K per hour, for a total of about 30K. So we all did a great job today.
Vote for Change visibility event(s): Progressive-Alliance.org is looking for volunteers, for the following Vote for Change visibility event(s). Volunteers are asked to cover 1 hour shifts; but of course, 2 hours would be great. The objectives are visibility, voter and volunteer outreach, and voter registration.
Students for Change: Progressive-Alliance.org is looking for San Francisco State University students and UC Berkeley students, to whom a Vote for Change display, buttons, lapel stickers, and window signs will be provided; with the understanding that all donations received, will be used for a Free Campus Concert for Change at their campus and future visibility efforts in Nevada or New Mexico. Ideally students should be able to provide 1 hour of visibility, between 11am & 1pm, on their quad, once a week.
Benefit Concerts for Change: Progressive-Alliance.org is also looking for volunteers, students, and student groups; to help organize Benefit Concerts for Change; which will benefit participating student groups in Nevada and New Mexico.
Please see the following link for the Vote for Change display, with Obama 08’ signs, and supporting material:

Individuals, who are interested in volunteering, should email me the time slot they would like to volunteer for, and their phone #, so I can call them and coordinate schedules.

Please disseminate this email widely, to anyone you think might be interested in helping out.
Progressive-Alliance.org is currently focusing on Vote for Change; to assist in visibility; voter outreach, education, and registration; and to support Barack Obama.
Progressive-Alliance.org may support Barack Obama; but, it is an independent organization, not part of, and in no way represents Barack Obama. Any political statements made by Progressive-Alliance.org are solely it’s own.
Thanks so much for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Paul
Together, the support is GREAT.
Individually, one hour is easy to give.
The cost of McCain winning is Horrific.
The cost of volunteering One Hour is nothing.
If you are in the Bay Area and want to help, email me:
paul @ progressive-alliance.org
Thanks,
Paul
Republicans have bankrupted America, to the tune of $100,000 per person, and we can’t afford 4 more years of their negligence.
I want to help produce benefit concerts to help get Barack Obama elected.
I have $25,000 worth of concert equipment, and I’m willing to put up the money to fund the events, with the understanding that all net proceeds go to fund visibility efforts locally, then in Nevada and New Mexico.
If anyone is interested in helping produce the benefits, please email me at:
Paul @ progressive-alliance.org
Lets step up to the plate and get Barack Obama elected.
Sincerely,
Paul Warnow

Save the United States from becoming a Third World country.
Both of the (presumptive) presidential candidates are against drilling for oil in the Anwar province in Alaska or drilling for natural gas off our shores. I think if we held back contributions to their campaigns until they changed their minds on this issue, they may get the message.
If the policies of the United States are not changed, we may quickly become a Third World country. If the citizens of the United States do not persuade our political leaders to change their minds, we may go broke and be deeply indebted to China.
We have billions of cubic feet of untapped natural gas, which could be used to power autos, trucks and other machinery. And we have huge deposits of oil in Alaska. But our own political leaders are refusing to let us develop these resources.
The leaders of the U.S. House and Senate will not let this issue come to the floor for a vote. Everyone should be putting pressure on their congressmen and senators to let this issue come to a vote. It seems unnatural for us to be building refineries in Iraq but not in the U.S. We have not built any new refineries in the last 30 years. We are not preparing well for the future.
I want to take this opportunity to thank 5th District U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. for the steadfast support he has given to try to make this drilling possible. We need more people like him representing us. Please write letters, make phone calls, or whatever you can do to get the attention of those who are now in office to realize there are alternatives to mortgaging our future to the oil producing nations.

Bush, & the Republican party, lied to justify going to war, and McCain supported him all the way.
Bush, & Republican polices, pushed the Total Debt from $7 Trillion, to $15 Trillion in Debt War costs; which is $100,000 per person when amortized over 30 years at 5%.
Bush, & Republican polices, pushed the cost of oil to $140 a barrel.
Bush, & Republican polices, pushed gas prices over $4 a gallon.
Bush, & Republican polices, caused America to lose 300,000 jobs since Nov 2007.
Bush, & Republican polices, pushed America into a Recession.
It is time to call it what it is, a Republican Recession.
