Because he wants to be president?
He was tortured for 6 years at the Hanoi Hilton yet he advocates war and torture. Where was he when Caesar needed a successor. He could have spared us from Caligula and Nero ... or would he have been worse than Caligula and Nero.
The Roman Empire is dead and so are we if we continue to follow Bush doctrine.
A vote for Lassie would be better than a vote for mean McCain. Defense is one thing but bringing our anger to the rest of the world has resulted in Israeli, Russian, and Pakistani aggression. Because we are the only superpower everyone else thinks they can get away with their own "war on terrorism". Even if they are responsible for the hostilities.
Our troops in WWII helped bring peace to the world and we have forgotten our place and responsibilities. McCain will bring more hostility not less. And Bush doctrine has worked to destabilize the world in the pursuit of wealth. Democracy and capitalism are not the same.
Vote Obama.
The republicans are a long ways off from realizing equality, integrity, and compassion.
Knowing that, we are so far ahead of them.
Clearly the differences between our two parties are simple.
We are not only progressive, we have evolved far beyond the dismal days of bigotry, sexism, greed, and violence.
We are the party of evolution, of the future, and of the perseverance of mankind.
We are the democrats.
We overcome obstacles.
We work with problems to create solutions, not deny and sweep them under a rug.
We deal with problems, because we are capable and willing to deal with them.
What ever the problem, we can work through it and rise above it.
No matter how much the republicans have screwed things us, we can handle it, because we are the democrats.
What a night, what a party!
Good night.
Obama/Biden 08 !
Very interesting article coming up from the opinion of a reader who is concerning about the situation in the Caucus. It seems to me finally the American opinion is taking conscientious about GEOPOLITICS and comprehends what the old fashion of politics of the 20th century is gone!
And for the sake and PEACE in this small rock called PLANET a new alignment of POWER will be welcomed soon rather than later.

Superpowers flex muscle, but at what cost?
Earl Beal - Terre Haute, Ind.
In the power politics of international relations, superpower behavior is governed by the concept of geopolitical spheres of influence. When a superpower nation meddles in the internal affairs of another and attempts to exert undue political or economic influence in its perceived sphere, that's when trouble starts.
The trouble started when President Bush pressured Poland and the Czech Republic to establish a missile-defense system in their territories. This policy was then, and continues to be, seen by some as a direct threat to Russia, not to mention Bush's push for democratic reforms in former Soviet Republics still considered vital to Russia's national security interests.
Also, if Russia placed ballistic missiles in Cuba and/or Venezuela, this would constitute a direct threat to the U.S. Washington's hue and cry over such a move would be surpassed only by Bush's hypocrisy when he and his Pentagon took the "dramatic," "brutal" and "disproportionate" measure of invading a sovereign Iraq in 2003. As a result, what do we have?
The hemorrhaging of our national treasure in terms of lives lost.
Thousands of courageous people wounded.
A cost of more than $10 billion a month to finance this fiasco.
5 million Iraqi refugees scattered and without homes.

...I was in the process of commenting on Janes comment... who apparently agreed...with the poster... Jane, is a friend,..except she did not say she would vote for McCain so I wasn't sure where she stood...
Anyway this is what I wanted to say to her, but I never had the chance.
From me Kristine aka "Vidya"
"Well, perhaps he is less qualified than some, but I do think he has enough appropriate qualifications for the job, and surely you would prefer him to McCain, right?"
No, I did not have a chance to comment, or defend my choice. I no longer have the privilege to choose which post I comment on, that is now done for me.
No one is allowed say anything unfavorable about Obama on this site. I read this post, and yes she is mad, and frankly with the crap the is being pulled on this site lately so am I. I do believe I have had enough.
We are all adults here, we can decide for ourselves how to respond or not to at all. Stop the censorship, or more and more democrats will feel alienated, censorship of this sort is exactly the what is causing an uprising within the party. Censorship is wrong, and the scissor happy cutting of posts needs to stop, before it gets around, everyone heres about it and it damages the GE.
Here is the post as it was in it's entirety...I believe you have the right to read it, and it is wrong for the Democratic party, and/or this site to imply that you don't.
"Well I see that our Speaker has been flapping her gum again. I am a Calif and think I have the right to be insulted when she bashes Hillary supporter. I AM A HILLARY SUPPORTER and will say right up front . I WILL NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA, IN FACT I WILL VOT REP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE as I have talk to many others who feel the same way, so you are losing 2 vote per person. 1 for Rep and one taken away from Registered Dem. I am 82, have voted since FDR, still work in the public every day and pay my share of income tax, so have a right to complain and be highly insulted. WE HILLARY SUPPORTERS ARE NOT WHAT IS DESTROYING THIS DEM PARTY, but the lack of the Dem led Congress to do what we sent them there to do, the lack of the DNC to be neutral until a nominee was picked by the American People, by this I mean the people of Mich and Florida were left out .
Had the DNC, Speaker Pelosi put aside there differences and been fair about the choice of people in this country , then and only then could the Dem party been united. Hillary would have been a better choice to run the country, would have been fair to ALL THE PEOPLE, regardless of race , color, gender, age or creed.
I will say this much to the Democratic Party, don't come crying after this is over and either we have a REP Pres, or an inexperience, race , well educated driven man with no plan to save this country from another depression, another war, another separation from reality man, whose main goal is to make a history statement rather than lead a country and ALL THE PEOPLE in the right direction.
SO BASH HILLARY AND HER SUPPORTERS right into the hands of the REPUBLICANS"
Again this is what I wanted to be able to say to Jane, who agreed.
"Well, perhaps he is less qualified than some, but I do think he has enough appropriate qualifications for the job, and surely you would prefer him to McCain, right?"
If you're still out there Jane I'd like to discuss this further.
If, we can at least have that opportunity, that freedom.
While the American media is bluffing about the “Invasion of Georgia” the Bush administration just receive a lap in his face as a consequence of his erroneous and horrendous mishandling of the situation in the Middle East; special remarks on his attitudes an action in the illegal war in Iraq.

"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. " Pro-life initiative Measure 11 offers South Dakota voters an opportunity to stand in defense of preborn human life during the November election, and carries the endorsement of Focus on the Family Action in conjunction with the South Dakota Family Policy Council.
Both groups are urging South Dakota voters to vote “yes” on Measure 11, which would prohibit abortion except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life or health of the mother is endangered by the continued pregnancy.
“South Dakota continues to be a driving force in efforts to protect women and the preborn from abortion. Focus on the Family Action is pleased to lend its support to this important ballot effort that will result in saving the lives of preborn children,” said Tom Minnery, senior vice president of Government and Public Policy for the organization.
“South Dakotans know the value of human life and the deep threats against it,” South Dakota Family Policy Council President Chris Hupke said. “Our organization pledges to come alongside this historic effort and the state’s voters to help ensure a November victory for Measure 11.”
South Dakota, please say NO, to Pro-life initiative Measure 11!
Focus on the Family is one hellfire and brimstone of an organization, how can anyone worry about Obama, with nuts like that supporting McCain?

That's how Exxon slips under the radar with their outlandish profit margin, they say it goes right back into finding energy sources, can guess you where?
Who profits from that kind of research?
Exxon.

This is in response to an intelligent comment left by someone on a recent post regarding Little Dine and Grandpa Dines apology.
I was not aware of what had transpired over anti Semitic remarks. I do know that there has been ugliness on this site since I came here. I do believe that most who post here are decent people, but there are others who tend to ruin the experience for all of us. It's a shame really that we have allowed the hate and fear mongers to continue. What I would like to propose is this: When someone posts something that is obviously opinionated hate or fear, even if it's someone who supposedly supports our candidate (whomever that is) that we ignore. No comments, no stars. Nothing, as if they don't exist. In time hopefully they will go away. If we don't feed the tigers, they will look elsewhere for food.
People don't like hearing that, because Lincoln is held in such high regard. However, let's count the ways they are similar:
1) Habeus Corpus: Bush does not provide Habeus Corpus for the Gitmo detainees, some of whom were even American citizens. Lincoln suspended Habeus Corpus for all Americans when it came to treason and related acts. Chief Justice Taney of the Supreme Court issued a Writ ordering the Military and Lincoln to produce an accused man being held without trial. They ignored the writ, and, in fact, Taney was threatened with arrest himself. Radical Republicans in Congress even introduced articles of impeachment against Taney.
2) Changed the reason why he invaded: Bush went from WMD to Al Qaeda for Iraq. Lincoln went from Union to Free the Slaves in the South.
3) Popular Vote: Lincoln got a mere 40% of the popular vote in 1860, but 59% of the electoral college.
4) FISA: While Lincoln didn't call it FISA, he did authorize warrantless wiretaps. Read More »
An Unlikely Antagonist in the Detainees' Corner
I don't think I have much to add to the article, although some of you newcomers may appreciate my earlier blog against torture:
Our Exceptions, Their Rules: Moral Equivalency, Waterboarding, and the End of the American Legacy
Due to the teach to the test model of NCLB, teachers have to assign books that are on the required tests. It is a limitation not without it's educational sacrifice.
Funding is awarded to schools that excel, and schools in need are deprived.
The reward and punishment system adopted as the accepted method of class/school control, destroys character and robs the student of their intrinsic motivation. It is very sad to see our public school systems systematically destroyed because of ruse and manipulative ploy to promote private education for the affluent and remove public education for the needy.
We need to get rid of NCLB, all together. We do not need Bush's destructive legacy lingering on after the White House is Blue. Naturally, I like Obama's plan to pay teachers more, but we care about the kids who are not getting their needs met due to the destructive nature of NCLB.
Schools that test high, get money stay open, schools that need the most money and help, close, where do those students go?
They overcrowd existing schools. The system is a cancer, it cannot be changed or helped. NCLB must be eradicated, like the cancer it is, so that learning can once again be the priority, not testing for money.
McCain says he will keep NCLB but make changes. Obama needs to differ from McCain on this issue to a more progressive degree and take a real stance against this destructive manipulation of America's Public School system.
If Obama promised to remove NCLB and replace it with a more comprehensive and compassionate system of true learning assessment, the American Federation of Teachers would be totally supportive. Obama would also gain more solidarity from other core groups as well, more of the women's vote, more of the working class whose children attend public schools, more of the elderly vote who prioritize education and youth even more their own well being.
Speaking out against NCLB will liberate and bring real change from the bondage Bush has imposed on our public school system with his "No Child Left Behind" ruse. Please write to Obama and ask him to reconsider his thinking on NCLB, and ask him to take a different stance, a much different stance than McCain!
Like I said, yelling, insulting, calling people bad names, that can't feel good, in fact it is quite unhealthy. I hope she gets the help she needs, becomes accountable and compassionate, instead of continuing to be judgmental and insulting. Best of luck to you FOS.
