An official investigation has found that US-led air strikes a week ago struck a wedding and killed 47 Afghan civilians, MOST of them Women and Children, an official said Friday.
The US-led coalition HAD said that ONLY militants died in the July 6 strikes in the mountains of eastern Nangarhar province. But spokeswoman Lieutenant Rumi Nielson-Green told AFP Friday the force was investigating and regretted the loss of any civilian life. It is facing similar charges over strikes 2 days earlier in another border area. (The only thing I ever hear is that we're suffering deadlier attacks...no you wonder why?).
A 9 member team appointed by President Hamid Karzai to look into the Nangarhar incident found that ONLY CIVILIANS were killed in remote Deh Bala district, said the head of the mission, Burhanullah Shinwari. "We found that 47 civilians, MOSTLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN were killed in the air strikes and another 9 were wounded," said Shinwari, who is also the deputy speaker of Afghanistan's senate. "They were all civilians and had no links with Taliban or Al-Qaeda," he told AFP.

The United States announced Thursday it was imposing sanctions on a Syrian mobile phone company and a duty-free shop franchise connected with Syrian President Bashar Assad's family.
Under the sanctions, the US assets of Syriatel and Ramak duty-free shops, controlled by Assad's cousin Rami Makhluf, will be frozen and US citizens will be barred from doing business with the outfits.

Rev. Jesse Jackson launched his apology, but WHY? Isn't he allowed to speak his mind regarding BO's reprimands? I just watched the clip of BO prior his comment on CNN and the heated debate. Senator Leahy and the Judiciary Committee submitted action to investigate Bush's illegal wiretapping; this is one crisis to clean-up while speeding down this 'Road-To-Change Highway' by holding those persons responsible for blacking-out our laws with spray paint to intentionally tag and harm our Constitution. Clean-up the graffiti quickly and effectively with impeachment hearings; stay on the right side of the road - remove these men that deface and corrupt our laws. We trust the clean-up committee to crack the window without resistance. Listen to constituents song that we've been heading down the wrong side of the highway called "It's Not for Political Debate." It's time to send the limo to pick-up the dates: Rove, Cheney and Bush and deliver them to the hot seat. We want to see something different on the 'Road-To-Change Highway' or we've driven off the shoulder and fast approaching 'Road to Hell.' Had democrats defiled our laws in such manner, they'd definitely be subject to impeachment proceedings and long ago. Ink on the stone! I'm sick of McCain fingering the Democratic party in his whiny voice that we cause pork barrel spending when in reality it's the republican party. He received applauds today when he mentioned bridges and roads to nowhere. I live in Alaska and this is a republican led agenda. And actually, last time I checked, the Congress is led by a GOP majority and voted to start a war in Iraq. Isn't this war: pork barrel spending? And controlled by a republican majority Congress? Don't they slip verbiage into the bills to benefit their agenda, blocking the left? Why aren't we fighting back on his words. Where's BO on this? Kerry failed to fight back early and hard and look what happened to us.
Here's another one that burns me: McCain claims in a commercial that democrats will increase taxes. FALSE. Facts are: Republicans voted to lift taxes on major industries because they were bought off by them. Democrats want to increase taxes on those industries, and hold them accountable for pollution and research for alternative fuels. Democrats will NOT raise taxes on the general public (low and middle income earners), will they? Why aren't we slapping his face for this? We need to tackle this turtle, or we're the bigger turtle.
McCain lacks reality, understanding and had his opportunity to get this country ON TRACK, but failed. He would not be effective at a later date, when he's not been effective in the past, or currently to end this war. It's why he clings to lil B think about "winning this war." I dislike that term too...what's this war about anymore? What are we going to win? I hope it's a new electric car! :)
