Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.
John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007. This was our private matter, and I frankly wanted it to be private because as painful as it was I did not want to have to play it out on a public stage as well. Because of a recent string of hurtful and absurd lies in a tabloid publication, because of a picture falsely suggesting that John was spending time with a child it wrongly alleged he had fathered outside our marriage, our private matter could no longer be wholly private.
The pain of the long journey since 2006 was about to be renewed.
John has spoken in a long on-camera interview I hope you watch. Admitting one’s mistakes is a hard thing for anyone to do, and I am proud of the courage John showed by his honesty in the face of shame. The toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown. But now the truth is out, and the repair work that began in 2006 will continue. I ask that the public, who expressed concern about the harm John’s conduct has done to us, think also about the real harm that the present voyeurism does and give me and my family the privacy we need at this time.

John Mc Cain : Putting Incompetence First

Well, if Romney and those who want him for VP thought that they had buried the embarrassment of the Yearning for Zion Ranch, they got a reminder today in the New York Times. The New York Times devoted a great part of their Sunday Times Magazine to the story. Complete with plenty of photographs. McCain will have to look elsewhere for his VP.
" . . . We may never know much about the individual circumstances of the young women in these pages or, most important, whether the relationships that carried some of them into motherhood were forced upon them. The women Sinclair met offered no information about the nature of their marriages or who the fathers of their children are. . . "

Frank Rich has a great article in today's New York Times titled "How Obama Became Acting President"
Here is just a taste of Rich's article. I highly recommend going to the NYT and reading all of it.
" . . . He never would have been treated as a president-in-waiting by heads of state or network talking heads if all he offered were charisma, slick rhetoric and stunning visuals. What drew them instead was the raw power Mr. Obama has amassed: the power to start shaping events and the power to move markets, including TV ratings. (Even “Access Hollywood” mustered a 20 percent audience jump by hosting the Obama family.) Power begets more power, absolutely.
The growing Obama clout derives not from national polls, where his lead is modest. Nor is it a gift from the press, which still gives free passes to its old bus mate John McCain. It was laughable to watch journalists stamp their feet last week to try to push Mr. Obama into saying he was “wrong” about the surge. More than five years and 4,100 American fatalities later, they’re still not demanding that Mr. McCain admit he was wrong when he assured us that our adventure in Iraq would be fast, produce little American “bloodletting” and “be paid for by the Iraqis.”

PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TOMORROW AND ASK THEM TO VOTE NO ON THE SABER RATTLING H.R. 362
The National Intelligence Estimate released Dec. 3, 2007, states that Iran's nuclear weapons program was halted in 2003. The EU froze the assets of the biggest Iranian bank after Bush visited Britain in June. H.R. 362, introduced in Congress on May 22, 2008, would impose a naval blockade upon Iran which experts say would amount to "an act of war."
Here is an excellent summary of what it really means as well as links to more information. Remember don't expect someone else to stand up for peace. They might very well be counting on you to do that for them.
As I've mentioned before, I like to read from newspapers all over the world and because I know that the world is controlled by the 1% of the wealthiest, I take the news as it appears in foreign papers and their mainstream media outlets with a large grain of salt as well.
However, it is still an education because at the least we can see what people in other countries are being fed--thus we can then draw our own conclusions in regard to how we think that they are being influenced and guess at expected outcomes.
For example, yesterday I posted a piece from Haaretz, the Israeli newspaper, with the story about the Mossud officer who said it would be a mistake to attack Iran and also that Iran did not pose a threat to Israel because of Israel's extensive anti-missile defense system. I was encouraged by that as it waters down the effects of fear mongering that Iran poses any real threat to Israel--which it does not. Those are lies fed to us by those who stand to economically gain from such a war.
Now today I read the following article in the Tehran Times.

One of the ways that the neocon newspeak churned out by the neocon owned mainstream media control the masses (that would be you and me) is by creating red herrings (distractions to divert our attention from the real issues).
Frankly, I sometimes think that most of the members of our Congress are nothing but red herrings themselves, another show to distract us and make us think that things are being done, when in fact nothing is happening except that they are conniving as to how they can put more of our tax dollars into their pockets.
The Republicans and the Democrats sometimes remind me of those fake wrestlers on television who put on these great shows--throwing each other about and head-banging one another (and then laughing about their show together afterwards in the dressing room).
Look at them! I'll bet if you did a financial survery of their assets that you would find that an overwhelming majority of those in Congress have assets in excess of a million dollars.

Don’t Attack Iran!
Rally Friday, August 1st
At the North East Corner of Central & Meadow
From 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
The lead-up to war in Iran is well underway and House Resolution 362, currently being considered is the first step. The resolution would authorize the blockade of Iran and prevent Iranian diplomats from traveling outside of the country. A peaceful resolution to conflict can not be found if leaders can not speak to each other. Make your voice heard this Friday during rush hour at the north east corner of Central and Meadow in Dallas. Bring your signs, water, and friends. And lets tell our elected officials to vote NO on HR 362 and NO to attacking Iran.

Justin Danhof wrote a brilliant article titled “Why Cap and Trade could backfire”. It appeared in the July 16, 2008 issue of Christian Science Monitor.
One of the green proposals afloat out in the physical world is a “cap-and-trade” notion. Such a policy would turn carbon emissions into a commodity that could be bought and sold. This is obviously no solution. To put it into the vernacular that so many seem to appreciate judging from posts as well as comments, here is my analogy:
We have a room full of people. Some are wealthy and some are not. They are told that there is only enough air space for so many farts and those who want to fart more can purchase coupons from those who don’t have so much money and are willing to sell a few of their own quota of farts. All that is well and good, but the room still stinks. And those who do have the money will be constantly bickering to have the government raise the fart quota.

Barack Obama defends overseas trip after meeting Britain's PM Gordon Brown
Danica Kirka , Associated Press , London | Sat, 07/26/2008 8:47 PM | World
LONDON (AP) - U.S. presidential contender Barack Obama defended his decision to travel to Europe and the Middle East, saying Saturday that problems encountered by Americans at home are often best dealt with by working with allies overseas.
Obama, who spoke to reporters after wrapping up talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said he was not sure if there would be any immediate political impact from the trip - and that he would not be surprised if there was a dip in some of the polls in the week since he left home. People in America, he said, are worried about gas prices and home foreclosures.
"The reason that I thought this trip was important is that I am convinced that many issues that we face at home are not going to be solved as effectively unless we have strong partners abroad," he said. "And unless we get a handle on Iraq and Afghanistan, not only are we going to be less safe, but it's also going to be a huge drain on resources."
Obama said he and Brown discussed a wide range of issues, such as climate change, terrorism and financial markets.
"The prime minister's emphasis - like mine - is on how we can strengthen the trans-Atlantic relationship to solve problems that can't be solved by any single country individually," he said. . . "

Before any of you get all misty-eyed and start thinking that T. Boone Pickens plans for 'saving us' will leave most Americans with anything but 'slim pickings', get a few facts under your belts.
Pickens is just another greedy neocon. We the people need to hound our Congress to pass legislation whereby private interests do not control our energy sources.
T. Boone Pickens has given almost nothing to Democrats (less than 1%). and he has not given that much to Republicans either. (15%)
Instead a whooping 85% of his contributions have gone to special interests:
$816,261 Republican
$24,250 Democrat
$4,604,750 special interest
total: $5,445,261
