DNC Statement on DACA Anniversary

DNC Chair Ken Martin and Vice Chair Artie Blanco issued the following statement on the 14th anniversary of DACA:

“On this day in 2012, President Obama created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, bringing young immigrants out of the shadows and protecting them from being deported from the only nation they’ve ever called home.

“Fourteen years later, many DACA recipients have graduated from school, started their own families, and contributed to our economy in countless ways. They’ve dedicated themselves to improving their communities and our country, but under the Trump administration, more than 170 of them have been deported. All while Donald Trump and Republicans continue to relentlessly spread fear, attack immigrants, and brutalize our streets with masked federal agents.

“While Trump intentionally delays processing DACA renewals and Republicans shovel billions of dollars with no strings attached to out-of-control agencies like ICE and CBP, Democrats will defend law-abiding Dreamers and immigrants being scapegoated for cheap political purposes. We will continue fighting to restore sanity and security to our immigration system by building pathways to citizenship, delivering on border security, and ensuring that America’s immigration system upholds our highest values.”
