SoCal Democrats
About the Author
A Democratic group to encourage regional participation and co-operation. While the sexy, media-worthy campaigns may be elsewhere in the country, we've got work to do on our own turf.

This blog borrows its title from the Seattle WTO protests, in 1999, to describe the developing alliance between environmentalists and labor unions, specifically between communities and truck drivers serving the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

This blog was first published in April 2007, and since then the field has been set for the 'war' I warned about. 'Business' has declared its intentions via the Journal of Commerce and the California Trucking Association, and drivers have responded with a mini-protest (a caravan of only 40 trucks). Sources inside the industry predict a full-on melt-down of the dray/trucking system this summer, whether the POLA/LB approve a 'taxi token' oligopoly or not.

If you are interested in cleaning the air in Southern California, labor rights, transporation, international trade, or why there's a big rig blocking the I-5, this blog is for you:

As most of us, I feel we need to get out of Iraq, and get rid of this administration. I just signed a new petition out there that deals with getting out of Iraq. I urge all of you to sign this on line petition. Right now there are only 359 plus signatures so it's quite new. Please take the time to sign this petition. It only takes a moment of your time. Copy it and send it to your representatives with your comments.

Thanks

I know there are people here that believe we cannot get impeachment through, however, I totally disagree with this. We as a group, can get good representatives and senators into office, and get a democrat into the White House in 2008. That only requires us as democrats going to the polls and voting in masses. By letting, our voices be heard across this great country of ours. That is the easy part.   Read More »
As we celebrate this fourth of July I thought we as a unit should unite. We blog here, stating our anger with this administration. But I thought if we all sent a letter to our representatives and senators our voice may be heard.

Here is a copy of a letter I have sent to my Senator, and representatives of my state. I urge all of you here at DNC to do the same. Let our voice be heard!

Letter as follows:

Dear (Fill in the name)

You swore to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution- not just when you "have the votes", but consistently, all the time.
The evidence against Gonzales, Bush and Cheney is overwhelming; Geneva Conventions, NSA wiretaps, "fourth branch" of govt.
Do not use "there isn't enough time" as an excuse. The impeachment hearings against Nixon and Clinton only took 3-4 months, and the Congress took care of other business as well.
Bush, Cheney and Gonzalez' constitutional violations are far more serious, and a far greater threat to the Constitution and our Democracy than anything Nixon or Clinton ever did.
No more words, no more tough talk, no more emails asking for campaign contributions.
If you let them get away with these crimes against the Constitution, you will not only have violated your oaths of office, but you will have set a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
Bush, Cheney and Gonzalez have to be confronted, and must be impeached, even if you do not have the votes to remove them from office. Impeachment is the only power the Legislative branch has over the Executive Branch. It is imperative that Congress use this power to stand up as a body and say "This is conduct unbecoming of the Executive branch, and will not be tolerated".
Just remember: when impeachment hearings began on Nixon, there were only 25 co-sponsors to the articles of impeachment. That takes courage, which takes backbone.
Do you have the courage?
Do you have the backbone?
For our country's sake, I hope so.

AT&T agreed to allow large portions of sealed documents that sit at the heart of an anti-spying case against the telecom giant which alleges the company illegally installed secret surveillance rooms in its internet facilities at the behest of the National Security Agency. The case brought by the Electronic Frontier Foundation in January 2006 relies on documents provided to the group by Mark Klein, a retired AT&T technician who took three documents home with him when he retired in 2004.   Read More »

Larry Johnson

It is not about Liberal vs. Conservative, itâ??s about the Truth!

Come hear Former CIA Analyst, Policy Maker, Counter Terrorism Deputy Director
under Bush Sr. & Clinton and on air Pundit Larry Johnson speak at our June 19th

Johnson, an old friend and CIA colleague of Valerie Plame's early on took her fight to ABC's Nightline and fought back against the White House directed effort
to smear Valerie and her husband, Joe Wilson. Fired from Fox News by Rupert Murdoch, a key interviewee in "OutFoxed," Larry has been an unrelenting critic
of the media's failure to serve the American People.

Don't miss this enlightening and powerful event hosted by Valley Democrats United.

You will be talking about this one for weeks afterwards. Be prepared, as Mr. Johnson holds nothing back on his feels about Bush/Cheney and the entire Neo-Con
clique controlling American today.

Seating is first come first serve. Free admission - suggested donation at the door.

See you there!
