"How much are Americans willing to take before they rebel either in an armed coup or a non-violent coup against the status quo?"
Four points:
1) Our government is corrupt and supressing the middle and lower class working people.
2) Business is corrupt and suppressing the middle and lower class working people.
3) Our rights are being trampled on almost daily.
4) Media supports the above by ignoring it.
These are the very reasons that colonists revolted against the British empire.
Thoughts please.
Even sadder, Obama is so embarassed at his failure to embrace this idea of his fellow Democrat that Obama is failing to make fun of McCain for being so intellectually bankrupt that he must look to Dems for his ideas.
The worst part is that Howard Dean and various State Party leaders kept the new ideological leader of the Democratic Party, Frank Lynch, off the primary election ballots and out of the debates just because he is not a failed member of Congress like the candidates they put on the ballot.
Look for new ideas to lead our Party forward at http://www.franklynch.org including his Top Ten List on the lower portion of the first page.

Every day decisions are made that shape the world, such is the ripple of society, and the beauty of social interaction. The spreading current of a single handshake can permeate the inner circles of the most powerful offices in the world several years after the initial show of trust and respect itself had been forgotten. A face, or a name, can take you back to a moment that changed the way you thought about something arbitrary, yet the repercussions of the event may have sculpted changes in you that can never be fully articulated. Soldiers make these connections daily, and are our front line ambassadors to entire nations, selflessly fulfilling their obligations even as you read this. They are not obligated to care, nor are they ordered to remain stoic in their duty, yet so many come home having been changed by the situations they face as our bulwark against the world. Repeatedly deployed, torn down as individuals to be built up as soldiers, and held firm by shady backhanded contracts, these men and women give everything in the fight for a vaguery, but what is their reward?
When I returned back to my home in Oregon for the first time after my discharge, there were too many family members and old friends thanking me for my service. How do you respond to a thank you for doing something that you weren't completely sure you should be thanked for? I hid myself behind my smile, and shook everyones hand, but inside I was ashamed that I didn't feel anything, nothing at all. This lady with a baby spit on me truck as I rode past the Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. It landed almost directly on my "Army Aviation" sticker that sat above my "VFW" logo. It made sense that she would spit on my truck though, since there was a protest against the war going on at the time. Had I known about it I would have driven the extra half-hour around the city and come in to the Nordstrom Rack from the other side. I only needed to get a suit for my friends funeral, and unknowingly took the shortest route directly through a hornet's nest of protectors.
My mood was devastated after that. No more hand shakes or hugs would comfort me that day, even the minor amusement at the earnestness with witch the older men shook my hand was missing, so I avoided crowds at the funeral and quietly exited after saying my peace. There was no anger in me, only a reluctant understanding that I hadn't done enough. But I couldn't shake the shame that was welling up inside. Everyone was thanking me, patting my shoulder, hugging me as tight as a family member would, but I would feel nothing, and only cared about the fact that, in my heart, that lady had been entitled to spit on my truck, however overreaching her anger had been. She was doing the right thing by supporting the termination of an exceedingly detrimental conflict, and there was no fault in that. Her cause was just, though her means were less than cordial. However you cut it, my mind had been made up.
I began to talk to my friends as they came back from deployment after deployment, and their families if they did not return, and tried to understand what they needed in order to feel like an American citizen again. "We should be entitled to more than the average person," or so we believe, yet we refuse to ask for more than what is offered. We deserve better than the average person, yet we feel like something is wrong when we are greeted and thanked for our service. There is a vital link missing in this puzzle. Somewhere between feeling like we deserve more, and the appreciation leveled on us there is a disconnect. We need the universal acceptance of our country, nothing more.
The "thank you" should be a "good job," and the handshake should be a parade. We need to have a day of closure that was missing from Vietnam and Korea. We can end a conflict by ceasing to perpetuate it, but when our team leaves the field we need to celebrate their effort. We have been playing overtime in a very lopsided victory for too long, and like the soldiers of WWII, the OIF soldiers deserve their champaign moment, their kiss in front of the ship.
As a progressive thinking society, and a motivated populous, the ability to accomplish great things is within our grasp. This July, as your fireworks are popping harmlessly in the summer sky, take a moment to watch the faces of a soldier you know. Pay particular attention to the eyes as they wander away from the moment, and recognize when they retreat into memories of explosions and hot nights spent in a prison of lonely depression. You will see that they are not whole, and maybe you will agree that veterans of this war do deserve a parade as well.
When I first talked to my friends about this stupid idea of mine they thought I was crazy, but then we talked to Vietnam vets who say that the only thing they were never given was unilateral national acceptance. They pointed out that even now they face only the recognition of their service, yet live with the realization that they lost a war, and for those who did not hate them already for "killing babies" that was enough to keep them from caring about the vets.
This is a lofty goal, but why stop with bringing them home. Some of these 22 year old kids I talk to have already spent 3 years in Iraq and Afghanistan, and have forgotten their sense of being American. They cannot conform back into society when they do not feel like they belong. All they hear is how they are fighting in a wrongful war, and that they are not doing the right thing, so how are they to know that everyone really does care about them? Do not let this be another half-assed withdrawal from an enduring conflict. If we focus on throwing the parade, then the withdrawal becomes a given. Think about is.

Take a read and vote in the live vote. Who can handle China better? McCain or Obama? Whose plan is best? Or do we need to come up with something else?
McCain campaign communications director Jill Hazelbaker emails:
“Today, Barack Obama has revealed himself to be just another typical politician who will do and say whatever is most expedient for Barack Obama. The true test of a candidate for President is whether he will stand on principle and keep his word to the American people. Barack Obama has failed that test today, and his reversal of his promise to participate in the public finance system undermines his call for a new type of politics. Barack Obama is now the first presidential candidate since Watergate to run a campaign entirely on private funds. This decision will have far-reaching and extraordinary consequences that will weaken and undermine the public financing system.”
A Letter to our Congress and Senate
I'm a 22 year Marine Corps veteran and am hoping you will support whatever measures arise to end the use of our military as fodder in this useless "war on terror." A fabricated 60-page dossier provided by Tony Blair's intelligence folks prompted us to jump head-first into a war where our troops have no real plan for success. President Bush's failures cannot not be undone. Lost lives can't be justified. His mistakes, and those of anyone who follows blindly must have a penalty.
The mere fact that even our military leaders can't agree on a path should be a clear sign that the facts are being ignored and so are the legitimate concerns of the American people.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that too many have seen this as an opportunity to profit or forward their careers. Truth be told, upon whose back did they have to climb and how many dead bodies are beneath the heels of their dress shoes!
The young men and women currently serving in harm's way need to know our plan to succeed in Iraq and when they can expect to return home. What's more, with broken families, stress and paranoia trailing closely behind them and uncertainty, they need to know how many times they are going to be sent back!
These young people are volunteers...true patriots of our nation. We cannot treat them as horribly as was done with regard to the Tuskeegee experiment many years ago. Our troops, our sons and daughters, our husbands and wives, our mothers and fathers, are not expendible.
Respect them and honor them by providing them with straight answers. They know there are terrorists in the world, but are we going about it correctly? Will we regret this war and look back with disdain as we do at the Vietnam Conflict? Will we let Bush's war legacy continue to tarnish the world's view of us?
Please don't turn away from this stark reality. Please demand answers and hold yourselves accountable to us, your constituents.
God bless you with your tough responsibility. I pray you will be one of the ones who can honestly look in the mirror and know you did what had to be done.
Respectfully,
Donna Perdue

Save the United States from becoming a Third World country.
Both of the (presumptive) presidential candidates are against drilling for oil in the Anwar province in Alaska or drilling for natural gas off our shores. I think if we held back contributions to their campaigns until they changed their minds on this issue, they may get the message.
If the policies of the United States are not changed, we may quickly become a Third World country. If the citizens of the United States do not persuade our political leaders to change their minds, we may go broke and be deeply indebted to China.
We have billions of cubic feet of untapped natural gas, which could be used to power autos, trucks and other machinery. And we have huge deposits of oil in Alaska. But our own political leaders are refusing to let us develop these resources.
The leaders of the U.S. House and Senate will not let this issue come to the floor for a vote. Everyone should be putting pressure on their congressmen and senators to let this issue come to a vote. It seems unnatural for us to be building refineries in Iraq but not in the U.S. We have not built any new refineries in the last 30 years. We are not preparing well for the future.
I want to take this opportunity to thank 5th District U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. for the steadfast support he has given to try to make this drilling possible. We need more people like him representing us. Please write letters, make phone calls, or whatever you can do to get the attention of those who are now in office to realize there are alternatives to mortgaging our future to the oil producing nations.

'Disposable Heroes': Veterans Used To Test Suicide-Linked Drugs
An ABC News and Washington Times Investigation Reveals Vets Are Being Recruited for Government Tests on Drugs with Violent Side Effects
By BRIAN ROSS and VIC WALTER June 17, 2008 — Mentally distressed veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are being recruited for government tests on pharmaceutical drugs linked to suicide and other violent side effects, an investigation by ABC News and The Washington Times has found.
The report will air on Good Morning America and will also appear in The Washington Times on Tuesday. In one of the human experiments, involving the anti-smoking drug Chantix, Veterans Administration doctors waited more than three months before warning veterans about the possible serious side effects, including suicide and neuropsychiatric behavior.
"Lab rat, guinea pig, disposable hero," said former US Army sniper James Elliott in describing how he felt he was betrayed by the Veterans Administration.
Elliott, 38, of suburban Washington, D.C., was recruited, at $30 a month, for the Chantix anti-smoking study three years after being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He served a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq from 2003-2004. Months after he began taking the drug, Elliott suffered a mental breakdown, experiencing a relapse of Iraq combat nightmares he blames on Chantix.
"They never told me that I was going to be suicidal, that I would cease sleeping. They never told me anything except this will help me quit smoking," Elliott told ABC News and The Washington Times.
On the night of February 5th, after consuming a few beers, Elliott says he "snapped" and left his home with a loaded gun. His fiancee, Tammy, called police and warned, "He's extremely unstable. He has PTSD."
"Do you think that he is going to shoot or attack the police?" the 911 dispatcher asked.
"I can't be certain. I don't know," she said.
"He was operating as if he was back in theater, in combat theater," she told ABC News. "And of course, a soldier goes nowhere without a gun."
When police arrived, they found Elliott in the street, with the gun in the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. "Are you going to shoot me? Shoot me," Elliott said, according to the police report.
Police used a Taser gun to stun Elliott and placed him under arrest. It wasn't until three weeks later that the Veterans Administration advised the veterans in the Chantix study that the drug may cause serious side effects, including "anxiety, nervousness, tension, depression, thoughts of suicide, and attempted and completed suicide."
The VA's letter to the veterans, on February 29, 2008, followed three warnings from the FDA and Chantix' maker Pfizer, that were issued on November 20, 2007, January 18, 2008 and February 1, 2008. (click here to read the FDA warning and click here to read Pfizer's statement on Chantix)
"How this study continued in the face of these difficulties is almost impossible to understand," said Arthur Caplan, director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. Doctors at the Veterans Administration say they acted as quickly as they could.
"This didn't justify an emergency warning at that level," said Dr. Miles McFall, co-administrator of the VA study. Dr. McFall said there is no proof that Elliott's breakdown was caused by Chantix and he sees no reason to discontinue the study. Some 140 veterans diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder continue to receive Chantix as part of a smoking cessation study.
Dr. McFall says the VA decided to continue the Chantix study because "it would be depriving our veterans of an effective method of treatment to help them stop smoking."
Caplan, one of the country's leading medical ethicists, said he was stunned by the VA's decision to continue the Chantix experiment. "Why take the group most a risk and keep them going? That doesn't make any sense, once you know the risk is there," he said.
Chantix is one of the drugs being used in an estimated 25 clinical studies using veterans by the VA. Pfizer maintains that "the benefits of Chantix outweigh the risks" and that it continues to do further studies on the drug. The FAA has prohibited commercial airline pilots from using Chantix because of its possible side effects.
