CLAIRTON, Pa. - Five days a week, Linda Graham trolls tattered neighborhoods of this once thriving steel city outside Pittsburgh for unregistered voters she can sign up as Democrats - one of thousands of unknown volunteers whose work outside the limelight has already altered the basic arithmetic of the November election.

The epic nomination battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton helped put millions more Democrats on the voter rolls while Republican registration declined. Now Graham, 45, has taken three months of unpaid leave from her job at Pittsburgh's Central Blood Bank in the hope of adding to those gains before the presidential vote.

She's encouraged by the response here. "They're all feeling the crunch" of lost jobs and a sagging economy, Graham said. "But people are feeling empowered. They're feeling like, you know what, I hold a little bit of power in this."

To counter this effort, the Republicans are counting on a formidable, high-tech get-out-the-vote operation that has helped them win the past two presidential elections.   Read More »
the Wall Street speculators rich.
They will come up with some goofy plan for Fannie and Freddie that will leave serious invesstors wondering how it will affect the stock price

But the insiders will know beforehand and get rich ahead of us.

They should stop trading the stock and have a true takeover just like with the banks where the stock is wiped out forever

But the Wall Street insiders will get rich and you and I will probably pay $10,000 per person in taxes for the bailout
I want to hear barack saying we will not bail out the insiders

Today, I'm calling upon every American to support and vote for Senator Barack Obama in this presidential election. As a young American, I want to see a America that everyone that wants a job, can have one. As Americans, we can make history and turn this country back on the right direction!

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin is not the change that Americans are looking for. Senator Obama's speeches come from his heart and from what he has learned. Governor Palin's 2008 Republican National Convention speech was written by President George W. Bush's speechwriter. If Senator McCain and Governor Palin wants to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that’s their choice.

Each and every time, a new generation has risen up and done what's needed to be done. Today we are called once more - and it is time for our generation to answer that call. Let us be that generation that elect Barack Obama and put America back on track and made it truely great once again.

I've said this from day one of this presidential campaign. I thank Senator McCain for his service for this country but he is not the person that I believe is ready to lead America or even ready to understand the problems that Americans have.

Do we want a President that supports George W. Bush's policies and goals? Do we want a President that opposed creating a federal holiday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.? Do we want a President that is against funding of sex education?

Do we want a Vice President that hates community organizers? Do we want a Vice President that abuses her powers? Do we want a Vice President that strongly supports development of oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge?

Senator Obama is not in this race for President just to hold an office, but to gather with you to transform America. Senator Obama wants us to win that next battle - for justice and opportunity. Senator Obama wants to win that next battle - for better schools, and better jobs, and health care for all.

I want a President that favors the concept of equal pay for everyone. I want a President that supports a tax plan which includes an $80 billion tax cut for American poor and middle-class families. I want a President that has strong record of support for clean air. I want a President that understands Americans problems and issues. I want a President that wants healthcare for every American.

I want a Vice President that supports teachers and schools. I want a Vice President that wants funding to find new energy sources other then drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I want a Vice President that favors adding sexual orientation to the criteria for a hate crime. I want a Vice President that is against giving tax cuts for big corporations.

Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, please join me in supporting Barack Obama for President and Joe Biden for Vice President of the United States of America. I may not be able to vote in this election but tose can vote in America can show the world that we want REAL change!

Until now, the call for unity has had one meaning: Clinton supporters must change and start supporting Obama. The term "unity" is equated with "supporting Obama". What is always omitted from every news report, blog post, and pundit commentary is that unity can just as easily be achieved by Obama fans giving their support to Hillary. On the issue of party unity, I have always said that Obama supporters are welcome to support Hillary.

In fact, Obama supporters have just as much power to embrace unity and put the Democratic party back together again. They were always free to exercise their power to end the division within the party by backing Hillary.

Every argument that Obama supporters have for getting a Democratic president makes sense. What no one will tell you is that every single argument for all Democrats getting behind Obama is equally valid for all Democrats getting behind Clinton. And when you consider the vote cancellation which will occur when Democrats disgusted with the party leadership vote for McCain, it would make more sense politically to change to Hillary and keep those votes in the Democratic column.

Unity - or lack of it - is just as much the responsibility of the Obama supporters as it is the Clinton supporters.

But why should the majority give in to the minority within the party? In other words, why should Obama supporters have to change for a few Clinton hold-outs? The facts show that this is not the case.

The results of the primaries showed that Democrats supported both candidates equally. A statistically equal number of Democrats voted for Clinton and for Obama. There is just as much support for Hillary as for Obama, and just as much reason for Obama supporters to change and get behind Clinton.

Unity is being prevented by the Obama Democrats just as much as it is being prevented by Clinton Democrats.

So when people try to blame Clinton supporters for disunity or for Democrats losing an election, remind them that the Obama supporters bear an equal share of the responsibility.

Today its was announced that 9 percent of mortgages are late or delinquent. Astoundingly, One of eleven mortgages are bad.

When those people become homeless, things will get much worse.

The cost to the economy and to us taxpayers for all the bank bailouts that will follow will place the US on the verge of bankruptcy.

Homeprices are going to continue to decline, which means more mortgages will be upsidedown (where the mortgage is larger than the home value). That will result in even more people walking away from their mortages, and HOME PRICES WILL DECLINE EVEN FURTHER

for years. . . .

and revene from property taxes will continue to decline, robbing our already short-changed  schools of much needed revenue, so our children will pay the price of government lack of regulation

NOTES FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL:

Dear Obama/Biden friends and supporters:

We've just gotten word that Sen. Biden's event in Des Moines on Monday afternoon will be at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in the Paul Knapp Animal Learning Center, beginning at 3:15 p.m. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

There is no charge for the event, which is open to the public.

An email will be sent by the campaign tomorrow morning which will have a link to a special Web site for people to RSVP.

We may have more information Saturday morning about any special seating arrangements.

Pass the word among your Iowa Obama/Biden friends who may be able to attend. Hope to see you Monday.
Hello Biden friends,

I've been asked by the Obama/Biden campaign to send to them a list of Biden supporters who should receive a special invitation to Sen. Biden's appearance in Des Moines on Monday.

I have a pretty good list, but don't have contact information for many of those who caucused for Joe in local precincts.and who would love to see him again. That's where we need your help.

Would you search your memory (or call lists, or personal email contact list) and pass along to me the names and email addresses of Biden loyalists who might like to have a ringside seat for his appearance next Monday, and perhaps the chance to personally welcome him back to Iowa as the next Vice President of the United States?

Just send them to me and I'll get them to the campaign staff ASAP.

Hope you'll be able to be part of the "welcome home event" on Monday!

An Open Letter To Sarah Caribou Barbie Palin

Dear Sarah,

Do not Yell At Me, I am Holding My Infant In My Arms- Former Beauty Queen Palin. I see that you went after Obama a few nights ago. I found that amusing after watching him go up against real opponents like Hillary Clinton- however, I was not worried once your heavily made up face started to make noise ( I would watch that if I were you, you should hear what McCain said to his own wife about wearing to much makeup- WOW! ) because after a few minutes it was obvious you were never intended to be more than a little distraction with a lot of lipstick (hey now, she started the lipstick joke with that dog comparison) at the RNC.

Do you know what made me mad? You went after Community Activists (code word for Uppity Minorities). Those are people who work to make their communities a better place - they do that work for free, they will probably never be recognized outside of their community for the work they do - and sometimes they do not even get recognized inside of it because Community Activists work in groups and rarely does one name bubble up unless they have been appointed a spokesperson -

I do work like that.

So does my husband.

And so do my friends (thanks guys).

You know, I am the same age as you - which means that you HAVE benefited from the activist work that women did back in the 1960s and beyond that I have. They were activists Caribou Barbie - and if it had not been for people like that you would be up there in Alaska, sitting in your kitchen wishing that you could have been more in life then a floor waxing - baby making machine.

I have not forgotten that - but obviously YOU HAVE - which explains why you are willing to play (The Hostess With The Mostess) for McCain. Way to set the Womens Movement back 100 years you Book Banning - Her hope is to be on ESPN one day - girl.

Oh and FYI

I was NEVER a Hockey Mom like YOU.

I Played Hockey.

Sincerely,

an activist from Washington State
All men are created equal unless they love other men...

And women aren't equal at all since unlike men they can't decide what to do with their own bodies.

And Sarah Palin according to John McBush doesn't deserve to earn as much money Dick Cheney.

Tell John that unless ALL PEOPLE ARE CREATED EQUAL NO ONE IS EQUAL.

Union: A harm to one is a harm to all
MLK: Injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere

Donate to Obama now give as much as you can as often as you can we are truly in the fight of our lives.
Ok Palin had a great line when addressing families with special needs children. But for goodness sake her child isn't special needs, YET! Being an infant does not make you special needs. I really am sick and tired of this woman complaining that the media is attacking her family, by not letting her pimp them out!

You don't want her as your next VP!
They are always roll calls one line Dad... One line McCain... One line Son... One line Husband... Can you Actually say something? I don't care that you are a hockey mom TELL ME ABOUT THE HOUSING CRISIS!

Palin wants to go to Washington to leave the country better than she found it. Tell that to GEORGE W. ASSMONKEY... The most destructive president in the history of AMERICA! Palin wants to leave America better than she found it well as a member AIP leaving it better means without ALASKA! Perhaps if Palin really wants to leave the country better she should go back to Alaska and stay there.
How many emails did you receive, implying, or stating outright, that "Obama is a secret Muslim sent to infiltrate our government and destroy our country"?

I don't know about you, but I lost count.

Now, how many of the same people that forwarded those emails are going to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket?

How ironic, that they may turn out to be the voters putting a "Manchurian Candidate" into the White House.

Palin, was a long time member of the Alaska Independence Party. Just taking a gander at the name of her recent political affiliation, what do you think the primary goal of the Alaska Independence Party was?

I pointed this out to a coworker over lunch, here in LA (Lower Alabama), he replied "Hey, that's a positive. I am from a secessionist state."

And so we came to the true goal of the GOP. When Republicans talk about "Privatization", I had thought they were talking about unimportant things like our schools, or military (think Blackwater), and Social Security. What they were really talking about was reducing the number of states.

There are fifty states attending the Conventions this year. If the McCain-Palin ticket wins, how many will remain in 2012?

When George Bush told us "The Federal Government is the problem," he damn well set out to prove his point.

When a major political party is dominated by a region of the country that still believes the Civil War was an admirable undertaking, with politicians that believe that "This Country would have been better off with Strom Thurmond as our President", and they select a VP who supports secession, you damn well better pay attention.

They aren't joking.
