2008 Presidential Blog

Moderated by Michael Frend at frend@columbus.rr.com This blog is for talk, rumors and suggestions on the 2008 Presidential road to the White House. Here is where we can discuss how and why Barack would be a better President than McCain. Obama is falling somewhat in the polls. What do you think he needs to do to regain a confident and comfortable lead leading into November.

McCain couldn't even lift his hand high enough to actually shake Obama's hand-- More of a wave...
Who WON? I'm Votin' For "THAT ONE!"

A "steady hand at the tiller" McCain? I don't think so, lots of luck with that one, you'd have a heat stroke. If you want to use a motor propelled machine to plow the soil, you're going to REAP what you've sewn. Thank your puppy.

Maybe the third debate can be at a local dirt track; on your mark, get set, pull the cord and till away! Obama would pop-a-wheely and smoke that old, shaky man having breathing difficulties, leaving him in the dirt!

Yeah well, what's up with McCain's "apperachicks" what the heck was that about? What about standing in front of the camera at the end and Brochaw asking him to move? If McCain thought that the energy bill comment, "where it came to the floor and you wouldn't believe who voted for energy, "That one,"' was the knock-out, forget it. Talk about distraction again, I think you hit yourself McCain! Give it. Just save everyone from voting, you can back out now, be a sport and start something new, save our country MONEY from having to vote this election, just give it up! You're J-ello to the ticket! You let your puppy do all the yippin' (I omitted the 'g' since she does).

You are out of touch McCain. After everyone finishes fact checking whether a tiller is to plow, or part of a boat rudder, you're finished. You couldn't steer either one! LOL. You came to pick a fight with Barack Obama, but once again he talked about issues in his cool, relaxed manner, while you were trying to start a fire. To say he was going to purchase off all the bad loans, what the hell was the almost one trillion bail-out; talking about KGB and all the old campaign talking points we've already heard didn't cut it. McCain is 20th Century Fear Mongering, while Obama is the 21st Century Comfort.

Right off the bat, I was impressed that Barack took the time to learn how much TN was paying for gasoline ($3.40 gal. I'm moving there, dang. We're paying $4.65 plus). Too, Barack said he'd work with other countries to figure out how best to move forward with economy, since it's a global problem. He's a detailed person and we need that.

All this debate proved was after being billed that McCain was going to bring his boxing gloves, that McCain is a Wiener afraid to hit. What a BACK STABBER; he couldn't, and wouldn't, bring it. What a wuss; pick a fight, then you can't do it to Obama's face! Too afraid to lie, but let the VP do it. I agree with Chris Matthews that it's disgraceful to use Palin the way he does in a negative campaign; he uses her mouth; she's getting used! Too, McCain had a very condescending tone throughout the night, attack Barack with little pecks, instead of attacking issues. Barack addresses the issues, and he steered the boat right into the question.

His campaign is doing one thing, while McCain's doing another. He baked his own cake and it doesn't fit the molds. I wonder if it was billed that way in order to bait Barack, hoping he'd get negative, and then McCain would attack him for being grumpy, but it didn't work out that way, so McCain became hawkish anyway and stood in front of the camera. Ouch.

Watch, tomorrow McCain will whine about not getting favorable attention, while he and Cindy rushed off to leave this venue; and the Obama's stayed to mingle...likeable people, stay and mingle.

It's too bad Obama will inherit a military deployed where it shouldn't be, huge deficits, the world have changed and God bless Barack in solving this puzzle to create better change. I'm willing to help. I'm voting for Obama FIRST! Votin' fer "That ONE!"

Obama Wins in CBS and CNN Debate Polls

A CBS News snap poll of uncommitted voters shows Obama beat McCain in tonight's debate 40% to 26%, with 30% calling it a draw. Meanwhile, a CNN poll shows Obama beat McCain by a whopping 54% to 30%. Not a bad night's work for "that one."

McCain/Palin Rallies Get Ugly: Obama Hatred Turns to Open Racism and Death Threats

As the McCain/Palin campaign gets uglier, so do the crowds at their rallies. Stoked by what the Associated Press called "racially tinged" attacks on Barack Obama particularly from Sarah Palin, by Republican anger at Obama's surge toward victory, and probably by their own deep-seated bigotry, the crowds at McCain/Palin events have begun expressing their Obama hatred in increasingly disturbing terms.

As eyewitness Dana Milbank observes in the Washington Post, Palin's line of attack on Obama at an Oct. 6 rally in Clearwater, Florida, prompted one man to shout, "Kill him!" (a secret service investigation is currently underway in response to this incident, which is hardly good press for the campaign). Others at McCain/Palin events have shouted "treason" and even "terrorist!" at the mention of Obama's name, as the Huffington Post discusses in detail. At the Clearwater event, as Dana Milbank observes, Palin's media-bashing likewise produced a hateful response from the crowd, who turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse while others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial slur at an African American sound man and told him, "Sit down, boy" (see also ABC News).

Of course one of this looks good for the McCain/Palin campaign, which is coming increasingly to resemble a lynch mob.

Mark C.
Tonight is the opportunity Barack has needed to finally put McCain in his grave. I sincerely hope that Barack doesn't allow any of John's lies to stand. Veterans issues, trickle down economic voodoo, $800 billion in "new" Obama spending, McCain's health care "tax break"... all of these need to be pounded time and again.

Four more weeks

My fellow Democrats, like you, I am quite encouraged by all of the polling data we've seen in the past few weeks. Click on the "Read More" link for current polling data from ElecotralVote.com. I firmly believe that if the election were held today we'd clear 300 electoral votes easily. But the election is not today. It is four weeks from today. There are two more debates and, of course, the proverbial October Surprise to get through. And we all know that four weeks is a long time in the world of politics.

Please do not become complacent. Keep working at your local campaign offices. Keep making donations if and when you can. Sen. McCain (R-AZ) has not given up yet and we will not let up. This election is too important and we've come to far to do anything less. Our very future is at stake.

In closing, we have all come a long way here. We should take some solace in what we've accomplished but not let up one single iota. The party is as unified as it's going to get. We are on the cusp of beginning to recover from the worst presidential administration in American history. The best way to accomplish that is to elect Senator Barack Hussein Obama our forty-fourth POTUS and to elect sixty Democratic Senators for a filibuster proof majority. Four more weeks, my fellow Democrats, four more weeks...

Sorry, I'm not feeling the National Enquirer image coming from the other ticket. Calling Barack a terrorist? He's the one working hard in law school and streets of Chicago to help citizens and remember the other tickets pokes FUN of service to poverty. Amazing. The only terrorist I see in government, is the one who avoids their own criminal investigation and belonging to a church that drives people out of town and one that pushes for a pipeline and to pave the way, let all the animals around it, suffer and die. Environmental terrorist. Saying Barack has no military experience yesterday was another point that bites her tail off, she has absolutely no military experience either. Shooting animals isn't military experience. Enough of the ugly vision, let's turn the page to change. Ready? Here's we go, put your seat belt on, let's get safe.

At the convention, Michelle related the story about how Barack gripped the steering wheel of his car and he drove tentatively down the street, protecting his new little newborn daughter. He checked the review mirror frequently to catch a peek just to make sure things were fine.

I trust that Obama checked more than his review mirror on this economy strife and has checked the mirror frequently on other issues as well. I TRUST him fully. He did contact Bill Clinton and others in making his decisions, he keeps informed, and he maintains communication with who he needs to.

Barack gets my vote, for being a: slow, steady, reasonable, intelligent man that is successful at rallying America for CHANGE. He's a uniter, and a man that appears, and acts and WILL emerge as most presidential.

Congratulations to Barack and his family for all the hard work in gaining the electorates needed. We're SIX away. SIX! It touched my heart, when he made a pledge to give his daughters what he had, he's done a great job in moving that direction, not only for his daughters and family, but the human family. He really cares and is concerned. Can you imagine how happy and proud his daughters will be when their daddy becomes the president? Over joyed, so will I. It's going to be a huge relief actually, I'll breath again. He's already completed a mission to lead a beautiful path for his daughters by working so diligently on this campaign.

All Aboard! Calm and Steady as he goes! He's the beacon of light shining through this fog.

Test the logic of statements made by homophobic organizations against these criteria.
Common fallacies of logic and rhetoric:

Ad homonym - attacking the arguer and not the argument. (I SEE THIS HERE ALLOT. :)
Argument from "authority".
Argument from adverse consequences (putting pressure on the decision maker by pointing out dire consequences of an "unfavorable" decision).
Appeal to ignorance (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).
Special pleading (typically referring to god's will).
Begging the question (assuming an answer in the way the question is phrased).
Observational selection (counting the hits and forgetting the misses).
The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan.
1.Alan Cranston (D-CA)
2.Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ)
3.John Glenn (D-OH)
4.John McCain (R-AZ)
5.Donald W. Riegle (D-MI)
-----------------------
Alan Cranston (D-CA)

He was reprimanded by the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics for "improper conduct" on November 20, 1991 after he accepted $1 million in campaign contributions from the Lincoln Savings head, Charles Keating. Keating had wanted federal regulators to stop "hounding" his savings and loan association. The committee deemed Cranston's misconduct the worst among the Keating Five.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Cranston

Gloves Off McCain's Involvement in Keating Five--He was the worst of the worst!

http://iflizwerequeen.com

QUEEN’S COMMENTS ON DeConcini’s Remarks

DeConcini, who himself was one of the Keating Five, reported to Evan Brown of PolitickerAZ.com that Keating Five is “fair game” as an issue in the presidential contest.

The big issue according to DeConcini is that McCain should not have been at that meeting with the regulators that first time because he had a conflict of interest. McCain had taken three trips with his family that had been paid for by Keating AND McCain didn’t report that his wife has $350,00 invested with Keating.

SOURCE: http://politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2437/deconcini-says-keating-five-fair-game

Keeping in mind that DeConcini (a Democrat) is a man who has his own axe to grind. . . after checking out the facts in the WIKI on the Keating Five, the Queen is inclined to agree with DeConcini. The WIKI source certainly seems to substantiate all of DeConcini’s accusations and more:

DeConcini is correct. McCain was the only one of the five who had close social and personal ties to Keating. In addition, McCain’s wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating’s expense, sometimes aboard Keating’s jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating’s opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln. In 1989 Phoenix New Times writer Tom Fitzpatrick opined that McCain was the “most reprehensible” of the five senators.

Here is the link to that 1989 story if you are interested. The Queen found it quite interesting and well-written, not to mention funny and entertaining as well.

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1989-11-29/news/mccain-the-most-reprehensible-of-the-keating-five/

Barack estimates that he and Raines have talked for maybe five minutes in their lives, and Frank Raines himself even released a statement saying that he is not an advisor to Barack Obama “nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic mattters. The non-partisan fact-check website Snopes.com looked into these smears and the conclusions about Barack and the Fannie Mae executives should not be surprising: “None of them has (or apparently ever had) ongoing roles with the campaign as chief economic advisors.”

Republicans wish. However this is 2008, not 2000 or even 2004. That was then and this is now. Democrats are slinging the Republicans filthy mud right back at them before it even barely touches the wall. You can tell how desperate the Republicans are by how often they change the pile of crap they are throwing. Ayers only lasted about 24 hours. Then they figured out THAT wad ended up in a dead-end alley, now they have turned to the topic of Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae and Frank Raines.

If you haven't already, join the Pinocchio Posse!

Join the Pinocchio Posse
In the last few weeks John McCain and Sarah Palin have launched a barrage of negative attacks that many in the media flagged as gross distortions or outright lies.

"Pinocchio Posses" are showing up at McCain-Palin events, leading "Lie-Ins," wearing pinocchio noses, and reciting the litany of McCain-Palin lies. Start your own now.

This site has become a meetup and organizing hub for people interested in responding to McCain's lies.

The "Pinocchio Politics" label is dogging the McCain campaign, developing as an internet phenomena akin to the "Flip-Flopper" tag for John Kerry in 2004. This time the label fits. Let's make it stick.

http://www.pinocchiopolitics.org/

What little we have been able to learn about this one who would be second in command is quite disturbing: She approves of an extreme right-wing political group that was founded by a man who hates America and she was blessed by an African minister who drives “witches” [ie. women and small children] out of their villages.

Royal Bank of Scotland Shares Decline £6 billion

The Edinburgh-based bank had seen its share price plunge into double figures at one point this morning, before recovering to sit at 110.6p at 1.30pm.

It comes after 20 per cent, and more than £6 billion, was shaved off its share price yesterday in what was its biggest full-day decline in 20 years.
