50-State, Same-Day Democratic Primary

A group for those who believe everyone should have an equal voice in the selection of the Democratic presidential nominee through the establishment of a 50-state, same-day Democratic primary. That way our presidential candidates will be more representative of the party nation-wide, rather than being skewed towards the views and preferences of early states like Iowa and New Hampshire. Isn't it time the Democratic party become more, well... "democratic"?

While a number of speakers -- such as Railroad Commission chairman Michael Williams and Mike Huckabee -- have praised the advance of Barack Obama and what it means towards a colorblind society, at least one vendor hasn't gotten the message.

At the Republican state convention, a booth hosted by Republicanmarket was selling a pin Saturday that says: If Obama is President will we still call it the White House.

There were other pins that weren't necessarily conveying the positive, inclusive, united front that has been portrayed during the convention. One said, "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation" and another, "I will hold my nose when I vote for McCain"

Barack Obama personally called to apologize Thursday to the two Muslim women from Michigan barred from sitting next to him during a campaign rally Monday because they wore Islamic head scarves.

One of the women, Shimaa Abdelfadeel, told the Free Press that Obama called her "to personally convey his deepest apologies and acknowledge that this was inexcusable."

Obama also left a voice mail for the other woman, Hebba Aref, 25, of Bloomfield Hills, according to Abdelfadeel.

Obama volunteers didn't allow the two women to sit behind Obama at a Detroit rally on Monday out of fear their Muslim headscarves, known as hijab, would create a negative impression.

Obama Campaign Apologizes for Muslim Snub

http://www.nysun.com/national/obama-campaign-apologizes-for-snub-of-muslim-women/80282/

Source: New York Sun

Senator Obama's campaign is apologizing after campaign volunteers reportedly kept two Muslim women from appearing behind the senator at a Detroit rally on Monday because they were wearing headscarves.

One witness, Ali Koussan, told the Politico that one volunteer cited "the political climate," "what's going on in the world," and "what's going on with Muslim Americans" before stating that it wouldn't be helpful for one of the hijab-wearing women to appear in television pictures with Mr. Obama.

"I was like, 'You've got to be kidding me? Are you serious?" Mr. Koussan said.

"This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama's commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run," a spokesman for the campaign, William Burton, told the political news outlet. "We sincerely apologize for the behavior of these volunteers."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Mr. Obama to invite the two women who were snubbed to appear with him at a future event.

CAIR Urges Obama to Include Muslim Women in Upcoming Events

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/18/2008) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today urged Sen. Barack Obama to invite two Muslim women, who were barred from sitting behind the podium at a Michigan rally, to an upcoming campaign event.

Media reports indicate the women were kept from the podium area because campaign volunteers did not want the candidate associated with the women's Islamic scarves, or hijabs. Campaign officials later apologized to the women.
Four dollar a gallon gasoline? Why?

On June 6th, 2008 the average price of gasoline across the nation rose to $4 per gallon. “There’s nothing worse for our economy than surging energy prices at record highs,†said Mark Zandi, Chief Economist for Moodys.com. What do Jesse James and Big Oil have in common? Nothing if you believe the legends of Jesse James, who supposedly robbed from the rich and distributed his ill gotten gains to the poor. Big Oil robs from all of us and keeps the ill gotten gains for themselves.

New York Muslim’s Struggle for Justice in America

http://atlanticfreepress.com/content/view/4016/32/ Source: Atlantic Free Press Author: Stephen Lendman Yassin Aref is a 37 year old Albany, New York resident and one of many Muslim victims of police state justice in post-9/11 America. They've been hunted down, rounded up, held in detention, kept in isolation, denied bail, restricted in their right to counsel, tried on secret evidence and trumped-up charges, then incarcerated as political prisoners or deported to where they face possible arrest and torture. Because of his faith and ethnicity, Aref was victimized by US "justice" in a post-9/11 climate of fear. He's an Iraqi Kurd who emigrated to the US as a UN refugee in 1999 with his wife and three young children. He's now in federal prison but committed no crime. He's also the author of a poignant memoir/autobiography titled "Son of Mountains: My Life as a Kurd and a Terror Suspect." He wrote it in custody at Troy, New York's Rensselaer County Jail after his wrongful conviction in October 2006.

Muslim Activists Seeking Probe of Reported Surveillance

http://www.pe.com/localnews/rivcounty/stories/PE_News_Local_C_muslim30.426eaa8.html Source: Press-Enterprise Author: Paige Austin A civil-rights group and a coalition of Muslim activists headed by a Corona man called on Congress this week to investigate a report that military and law enforcement officials stole surveillance records of Southland Muslims from Camp Pendleton. The request stems from a news report that military officials and law enforcement members of the Los Angeles County Terrorist Early Warning Group illegally took the top-secret documents from the base's Strategic Technical Operations Center. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Marine Gunnery Sgt. Gary Maziarz has been court-martialed and convicted for his role in the thefts. While the details of the surveillance and the alleged theft remain largely unknown, the incident provides confirmation that the military and law enforcement groups have been gathering information about local Muslim communities, said Michael German, policy counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union's Washington Legislative Office.

U.S. MARINES ACCUSED OF PROSELYTIZING IN FALLUJAH

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2004444827_iraqgospel29.html Source: McClatchy Newspapers Author: Jamal Naji and Leila Fadel At the western entrance to the Iraqi city of Fallujah on Tuesday, Muamar Anad handed his residence badge to the U.S. Marines guarding the city. They checked to be sure he was a city resident, and when they were done, Anad said, a Marine slipped a coin out of his pocket and put it in his hand. Out of fear, he accepted it, Anad said. When he was inside the city, the college student said, he looked at one side of the coin. "Where will you spend eternity?" it asked. He flipped it over, and on the other side it read, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16."

How to Contact and/or Send Gifts to Our Troops. Let's Let Them Know We Haven't Frogetten Them.

Here's the first site I came across.

Treats For Troops.

http://www.treatsfortroops.com/

There are other links at this site regarding gifts we can send them. Looks like this site has a lot of really good ideas, and is specific about what troops want.

Here's another link, even more specific and with more programs to remind troops we are thinking about them.

This site also has a email setup so that we can send letters to our troops and they can write back. That doesn't cost a thing, and could mean a lot to a lonely soldier.
They also have a "sponsor a soldier" program. A lot of great ideas here.

I hope this makes up for my having posted politics during this sacred holiday. Again, my apologies.

I Pray for Peace and the safe return of our troops.

http://www.treatsfortroops.com/gallaghers_army.php

Memorial Day

Today we all pause to remember the ultimate sacrifice made by over one million Americans in defense of our country. Lets remember the hundreds of thousands who died to end the awful institution of slavery. Lets remember the hundreds of thousands who died to rid the world of Nazism. Just as much ... if not more, lets remember those who died in the futile wars in Vietnam and Iraq.

A thousand years from now, if there is just one American left, we will pause on this day to remember their sacrifice.

It's Time To Put Keith Olberman Out Of The "Misery" Of His Constant On Air Rants

On Friday, 5-23-'08, Keith Olberman suffered a sad mental meltdown on the air. For months now, Olberman has used his show as a attack machine directed at Hillary Clinton, something I find very offensive. Now Mr. Olberman's saying her campaign needs to "End it's Misery?" Why? Because Sen. Clinton repeatedly proves she is the more electable Democratic candidate, and this makes the great and all wise Keith Olberman angry?
I think that it's Olberman's show that needs to "End it's Misery" and go off the air.
In fact, I wrote to MSNBC, since my letters to Olberman himself were met with with brilliant remarks like "sc**w you." For someone who bleats his views so freely, the "brave" Mr. Olberman doesn't post his email address on the MSNBC site. So, I chose this time to write to those who keep him on the air. You can also contact his network at. . letters@msnbc.com

It's been increasingly clear that Olberman has lost all perspective, all touch with reality. But his most recent "special comment," insisting that Hillary Clinton's mentioning the fact that Robert Kennedy was killed at the end of the campaign was some sort of "secret signal" to all Hillary's "brainwashed" supporters to go shoot her opponent, was the final proof that Keith is truly delusional.
Does Olberman think it's a secret that RFK died in June? Uh, we knew, Keith. Some of us even remember seeing the awful event on TV, and praying for his survival. We remember our sorrow as well when he died. We are not as stupid, or forgetful, as you assume.
To even suggest that Hillary was somehow urging anyone to kill anyone is what is stupid. Add to this the fact that many of RFK's grown children are supporters of Hillary Clinton. For example . . .

It is clear from the context that Hillary was invoking a familiar political circumstance in order to support her decision to stay in the race through June. I have heard her make this reference before, also citing her husband's 1992 race, both of which were hard fought through June. I understand how highly charged the atmosphere is, but I think it is a mistake for people to take offense.
Robert Kennedy Jr.

Yet not only did Olberman "take offense," he raved like a mad man. Does he honestly believe this idiocy, or is he so determined to destroy Hillary that he'll say anything?
And what's with this royal "we" business? During his "special comment," he kept saying "We have forgiven" Hillary. Who is we, exactly?

Someone really ought to explain to Olberman that he is not Queen Victoria, and get him the help he so desperately needs. I hope that other will email MSNBC and let them know that Olberman's no longer rational enough to be on their network. He needs medication, not more air time.

Again the email is
Posting Ethics

There was a post recently where someone, who will remain nameless, posted another user's personal email address and their whole name in addition to their child's name. To me this goes beyond the realm of common decency. To publish personal information about someone who disagrees with your point of view out of spite and hatred.

I'm wondering how many other people feel this way also. Is this over the line or is it alright to post personal information about people on this site. I bring this issue up because I noticed that it happened again in a comment to a post just today. Someone revealed the full name of someone they disagree with.

Let me know if this is acceptable practice as I want to play by the rules but would like the playing field to be even.

Letter to Howard Dean

Howard Dean and the DNC are to blame for the controversy swirling on this website. While I appreciate his pointing out McCain's deficiencies I would much rather see him heal the wounds that he's created by alienating Florida and Michigan.

I believe they were wrong in bucking the party I also believe the party is wrong in spreading out the primaries. Each state should vote on the same day to prevent undue influence and avoid promoting favorites.

He needs to include EVERY state in the primary process including Florida and Michigan and their delegates. Focus on cleaning the democrats house up and let the voters focus on taking on John McCain.

In short ... DO YOUR DAMN JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to set the record straight

Last year the DNC told Florida and Michigan that if they moved their primaries up their delegates would not count in the primaries this year. It was in reaction to several states trying to leapfrog themselves into a better position to have greater impact on the election results.

Like it or not, the DNC made this statement before either state made their final decision. Knowing the potential ramifications each state defied the DNC and moved their primaries anyway. As a result the DNC had to make good on their word otherwise they would be viewed as toothless and the party would disintegrate into seperate entities and be no more.

Knowing that the delegates would not count this year Obama chose not to run in Michigan and neither campaigned as aggressively as they might otherwise have.

Having all the facts, anger should be directed at the DNC for following through or the States for putting themselves in the current position.

The fault for this predicament does not lie with any candidate but with the organizations that created the situation. You may be upset if you live in FL or MI but your anger is totally misdirected if it is aimed at a candidate.

It's Ironic

That the name is the Democratic Party. It is anything but. In a Democratic election the person with the most votes wins. The primaries have yet to be decided yet the party is divided.

I use the word party loosly as it really isn't a party it's two parties because there are two candidates. It is the Clinton Party and there is the Obama Party. It doesn't matter who gets the most votes in the primaries because it's really two different parties so both candidates can run as their own party.

There is one party though ... it's called the ME party. I'm in it for me and if my candidate happens to have less votes than the other than damn it I'll vote for MY candidate anyway.

This is the Putrid Party and FDR and JFK would be turning in their graves if they were here to witness the self destruction we bring to this site. It is a masochistic free for all that has Republicans laughing.

McCain will win in 2008, I'm certain of that. It is what the Republicans want and what the Putrid Party wants too. Congratulations on being an individual, the Republicans are a team.
