New Cook Ratings on the House

I had a nice Fourth of July and I hope you had the same.
It's been a slow Political week.

Charlie Cook Has just released new House Ratings. There has been a big shift these from Just July 19th. Though Cook has not touched the Democrats Ratings, he has put 21 new republicans into the list of competitive seats and has moved 2 GOP Districts in New York from Tossup To Leaning Dem as well as one Lean GOP to Tossup and 3 Likely GOP to Lean GOP. As a student of Politics I know that Cook Does not just put 21 seats in to his ratings. The GOP back lash in the House could be Massive. 78 GOP held seats are now Considered Competitive (4 Lean Dem, 18 are Tossups) to only 35 Democrats (Only 7 are tossups none Lean GOP.

This hits Close to home for me. One congressman who was added (as Likely GOP) was Dana Rorabacher (Cringe), my Rep. My district's PVI is only R+6. Rorabacher won by 23 Points. It is looking More and More like that Margin will be squandered to perhaps as little as 5-6 Points. Though I am doubtful Rorabacher will be defeated, it is still possible. He is running against a popular Mayor (Debbie Cook, No relation to Charlie Cook) and I will do all I can to see this scum bag Defeated in November. So I am asking you to join me in a sense. If you live in a district where you have a scum-bag Incumbent like Dana Rorabacher, And your district is Rated by Charlie Cook (Or CQ, Or Stuart Rothenberg) try all you can to help get them out of office.

In my (incredibly biased)opinion, Obama could do worse than featuring Francesca at his rallies to reach out to religious voters. Although Francesca's songs are inspired by her religious beliefs, they are songs of the heart and are gentle on the theology.

Washington, DC -- This morning the McCain campaign sent around a video clip of John McCain on Good Morning America under the "In Case You Missed It" headline. What the clip did not include, however, is Senator McCain misleading the voters on his own admission that the economy is something "I still need to be educated on" despite his 25 years in Washington. When the reporter interviewing McCain began her question by noting that McCain has "admitted that you're not exactly an expert when it comes to the economy," McCain interrupted and said "I have not. I have not. Actually I have not." [ABC News, Good Morning America, 7/2/08]

In reality, McCain has repeatedly acknowledged that he doesn't understand the economy and that he's "not smart enough" to solve challenges like the mortgage crisis. He has, however, read Alan Greenspan's book.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Hispanic registered voters' support for Barack Obama for president remained consistent and strong in June, with Obama leading John McCain by 59% to 29% among this group.

While Hispanics generally preferred Hillary Clinton to Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, a solid majority of Hispanics have consistently backed Obama against McCain in general-election trial heats. Obama has led McCain by about a 2-to-1 margin since Gallup began tracking general-election voting preferences in early March. ...

Rather, Hispanics of differing demographic backgrounds all tend to solidly support Obama. It thus appears that there isn't much beyond a shared Hispanic ethnicity or identity that explains Hispanic voting patterns. ...

Implications

Some political experts assumed Obama's struggle to attract widespread Hispanic support in the primaries would carry over into the general-election campaign against the Republican candidate. But Hispanics have become a reliable Democratic voting bloc, and have so far shown little difficulty in transferring their loyalties from Clinton to Obama. Obama continues to lead McCain by about a 2-to-1 margin among Hispanic voters, as he has since March. Hispanic voters could be crucial in key swing states such as New Mexico, Colorado, and Florida.

While George W. Bush made a strong push for the Hispanic vote in the 2000 and 2004 elections, McCain faces an uphill climb to attract Hispanics' support, given their consistent and solid support for Obama in recent months.
