Just what we need...another "Clod War"

Well now that the RNC is over in the “Twin City” what can be said about this week?
Palin gave a great but highly inaccurate speech and McCain gave and OK speech.
Much of the convention can be summed up with three words. war, guns and service
and chants of “drill baby drill”. McCain hinted at changing Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Healthcare, continuing the war in Iraq and outlined the GOP’s new faces of evil in Iran and Russia. Clearly McCain gave a “Cold War Speech” and hit tones on the war in Iraq very similar to Nixon’s speeches on ending the war in Vietnam.
Palin never touched on her extreme pro-life views even in cases of rape and incest or her support of Creationism/ intelligent Design being taught in public schools.
If anyone had be watching the floor of the convention they would have seen delegates that was 96% white, 2% black and 2% Hispanic, and what was with all the suite and ties?

How a City Council Takes Over A City

This past Tuesday Aug.12th, 2008 Our City Council voted to override our Mayors veto of Ordinance NO. 4270 which places a limit on the Administration of $ 2500 dollars on “Personal Service Contracts”. In spite of our own Law Directors letter warning them of what their action would mean.

"City Charters" are like constitutions for cities and are based on the State Constitution, Ohio Revised Code and approved by voters. The City of Urbana is less than two years away from “Charter Review” in 2010. Not only was this ordinance “not supported” by our Law Dir. but was not supported by the Ohio Municipal League as well so I've been told.

It may seem like a small thing ... but this one small thing has huge ramifications for the city and the citizens and voters of Urbana. City Council has changed our Charter form of government approved by the voters of Urbana. To their credit Al Evans and Larry Lokai voted NO on the limit.
I oppose this ordinance in the strongest terms…it changes the nature of our Charter Form of government and circumvents the will of the Urbana Voter who passed the City Charter.

The Citizens of Urbana may...want to consider [if possible], a pre-Charter Review referendum on CHAPTER 145, CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF URBANA PART ONE - ADMINISTRATIVE CODE 145.01 (d) and return the right (in my opinion) the explicit and implied right of the Executive Branch of [City] Government under the ORC and The Charter of the City of Urbana to hire and fire personal, service contractors and to purchase services from professional people or firms including consultants, engineers and architects as well as consulting firms to negotiate union contracts and other needs that come up in the course of running a city to provide the best services for its citizens.

Update for SMU Petition Signers, 7-14-08 [Bush Library]

Update for SMU Petition Signers, 7-14-08
Monday, July 14, 2008

I am Andrew J. Weaver, organizer of the petition at http://www.protectSMU.org and an ordained United Methodist clergyman and research psychologist. I am a graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU) and live in New York City. There are over 12,500 petition signers including thousands of SMU alumni who are deeply concerned about the future of the university. I am very grateful for your faithfulness regarding this issue.

---
Breaking Story About Bush Complex and Bribery
July 13, 2008
London Times
Stephen Payne: a hotshot lobbyist who can get you into White House

A lobbyist offered access to Dick Cheney and other US leaders in return for a donation to the Bush library

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article4322719.ece

---
Our Educational Effort Began

In June an intensive educational effort began regarding the Bush project at SMU. It includes a website with interactive capability. You can find the website at http://www.whatwouldjwdo.net

Our goal is to persuade South Central Jurisdiction delegates to reject the SMU/Bush Foundation lease proposal when they meet in Dallas at the Hilton Anatole Hotel, July 15-19. We are seeking to convince the "court of public opinion" through the media that the SMU-Bush linkage is injurious to both SMU and the United Methodist Church (UMC) that owns the university. Please keep this issue in your prayers over the next several days.

Growing the Petition

Finally, please continue to encourage your friends and colleagues to sign the petition. Each name is important. We need to tell officials of the UMC at every level that we find that a partisan institute honoring George W. Bush at SMU to be "utterly unacceptable."
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/protectsmu

With best regards,

Rev.
Four dollar a gallon gasoline? Why?

On June 6th, 2008 the average price of gasoline across the nation rose to $4 per gallon. “There’s nothing worse for our economy than surging energy prices at record highs,†said Mark Zandi, Chief Economist for Moodys.com. What do Jesse James and Big Oil have in common? Nothing if you believe the legends of Jesse James, who supposedly robbed from the rich and distributed his ill gotten gains to the poor. Big Oil robs from all of us and keeps the ill gotten gains for themselves.

Hillary Clinton: I Want You to Know

Hillary Clinton: I Want You to Know
6/5/2008 10:46 AM [EDT]
http://blog.hillaryclinton.com/blog/main/2008/06/05/144631

Hillary sent out the following message:
---

Dear Friend,

I wanted you to be one of the first to know: on Saturday, I will hold an event in Washington D.C. to thank everyone who has supported my campaign. Over the course of the last 16 months, I have been privileged and touched to witness the incredible dedication and sacrifice of so many people working for our campaign. Every minute you put into helping us win, every dollar you gave to keep up the fight meant more to me than I can ever possibly tell you.

On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans.

I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.

When I decided to run for president, I knew exactly why I was getting into this race: to work hard every day for the millions of Americans who need a voice in the White House.

I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.

I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.

I know as I continue my lifelong work for a stronger America and a better world, I will turn to you for the support, the strength, and the commitment that you have shown me in the past 16 months. And I will always keep faith with the issues and causes that are important to you.

In the past few days, you have shown that support once again with hundreds of thousands of messages to the campaign, and again, I am touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.

I can never possibly express my gratitude, so let me say simply, thank you.

Sincerely,

/s/

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Well if Rep. Jim Jordan (R) Ohio has anything to say about it we will be. That's what Rep. Jordan and 30 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives have in mind. Jordan has officially given his support to "H. Res. 598" a resolution [so] called the "Supporting the goals of the Ten Commandments Commission" and making a federal government campaign to urge "obedience to the commands of God".
Bloggers to Receive Unprecedented Access, Connect Diverse Communities to Historic Event Progressive Community to Provide Additional Workspace, Resources for Bloggers During Convention Week

DENVER - As part of its continuing commitment to engage a broad spectrum of audiences in new and creative ways, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that a record number of blogs have been credentialed as members of the media for the 2008 Democratic National Convention at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. These blogs will help ensure that communities across the country are connected to the Convention through the eyes and ears of a growing, diverse group of online voices.

Organizers also announced that blogs credentialed by the DNCC will have access to a dedicated "Blogger Lounge" inside the Pepsi Center, equipped with televisions, technology resources and workspace to facilitate their reporting. All bloggers will have access to the Convention floor, press briefing areas, caucus meetings, filing centers and other auxiliary events open to members of the media.

"Since we began planning, one goal has been at the core of all our efforts: to engage as many communities as possible in the Convention experience. We're excited to provide bloggers with the opportunity to be the eyes and ears of so many at this Convention," said Aaron Myers, Director of Online Communications for the DNCC. "Today, we are shattering the standard we set just four years ago, when the 2004 Democratic Convention was the first to credential blogs. This year, we will more than triple the number of blogs credentialed to witness history in the making."

Announcing the [Denver convention] State Blogger Corps

Announcing the State Blogger Corps
Posted by Aaron Myers on May 14, 2008
http://demconvention.com/announcing-the-state-blogger-corps

Months ago, we began the process of credentialing bloggers who cover state and local politics, as part of the DemConvention State Blogger Corps. More than 400 blogs applied for the program. And they’re incredible. Some blogs are the work of dedicated groups of activists, a few are full-time professional endeavors, and many others are the products of busy individuals blogging about local politics in their free time. Those selected to be part of our State Blogger Corps were announced today. And in every case, these bloggers have become experts on the political happenings in their states.

You’ll see a list below of the 55 blogs that will comprise the State Blogger Corps. They’ll be seated with their respective delegations at the Convention. These bloggers will have some of the best seats in the house and they’ll be the eyes and ears of local audiences online around the country. DNC Chairman Howard Dean recorded a message to introduce the program " so I’ll let him explain the rest.

Is one of your favorite blogs missing from the list? We had hundreds of great applicants and only a few spots. The Convention staff will work hard to be sure bloggers can cover the Convention from Denver or wherever they may be - with unprecedented access. And wait a few weeks. We’ll soon announce the Convention’s General Blogger Pool, an additional list of diverse blogs covering national politics, niche issues, and more state and local topics.

Congratulations to each blog selected for the State Blogger Corps. I’ll see you in Denver!

The DemConvention State Blogger Corps is listed below.
Hillary's Remarks at Charleston, WV Celebration Event

Hillary's Remarks at Charleston, WV Celebration Event
May 13, 2008
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/speech/view/?id=7692

Thank you, West Virginia.

You know, like the song says: "it's almost heaven," and I am so grateful for this overwhelming vote of confidence.

There are some who have wanted to cut this race short. They say "give up, it's too hard, the mountain is too high," but here in West Virginia, you know a thing or two about rough roads to the top of the mountain. We know from the Bible that faith can move mountains and, my friends, the faith of the Mountain State has moved me. I am more determined than ever to carry on this campaign until everyone has had a chance to make their voices heard.

I want to commend Senator Obama and his supporters. This continues to be a hard-fought race, from one end of our country to the other. And yes, we've had a few dust-ups along the way, but our commitment to bring America new leadership that will renew America’s promise means that we have always stood together on what is most important.

Now, tonight I need your help to continue this journey. We are in the homestretch. There are only three weeks left in the final contests, and your support can make the difference between winning and losing. So I hope you'll go to HillaryClinton.com [ http://HillaryClinton.com ] and support our campaign.

You've heard this before - there are many who wanted to declare a nominee before the ballots were counted or even cast. Some said our campaign was over after Iowa, but then we won New Hampshire. Then we had big victories on Super Tuesday and in Ohio and Texas and Pennsylvania, and of course, we came from behind to win in Indiana.

So, this race isn't over yet. Neither of us has the total delegates it takes to win and both Senator Obama and I believe that the delegates from Florida and Michigan should be seated. I believe we should honor the votes cast by 2.3 million people in those states and seat all of their delegates. Under the rules of our party, when you include all 50 states, the number of delegates needed to win is 2,209, and neither of us has reached that threshold yet. This win in West Virginia will help me move even closer.

On Tuesday, EJ broke the story of an Obama volunteer actively campaigning inside of a polling location in Marion County, Indiana.

http://www.electionjournal.org/?p=251

Looks like this wasn't the only case of electioneering caught on camera.

WTVW Fox-7 reports "On Tuesday, a poll worker in Evansville Indiana made sure voters knew they were stepping into 'Obama's House'." Video below.

Special thanks to the reader who brought this to our attention on the EJ Tipline.

ABC NEWS report:
Obama Campaign Caught Cheating in Indiana -- Illegal Electioneering at Precinct (ABC)
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/05/electionjournal.html

We noticed an Obama volunteer set-up directly across from the voter check-in table actively courting voters. The sign read OBAMA FOR AMERICA. She would not identify herself and directed us to call the campaign for information.

This is against the rules. Where were the board of elections and poll workers? They should have removed the signs and asked the people who brought in the signs to exit and stay at least 10 feet from the door.
