Dedicated to the dedicated Democrat

to one and all.

Here's a recipe for you, and unlike Cindy McCain, I didn't get it from somebody else's cookbook:

Spicy Corn on the Cob

Ingredients:

Corn cobs (shucked and washed, cut into half)
Finely chopped fresh cilantro
Unsalted butter
Fresh lemon
Salt, pepper
Aluminum foil

Get the barbecue hot (you probably already have!). Parboil the corn. Arrange individual squares of foil on work surface. Place a cob of corn, a small knob of butter and a sprinkling of cilantro and lemon juice on each cob, salt, pepper, roll and twist ends to seal. Place on barbecue to finish.
Well, ZANU PF had their vote (despite the fact Mugabe was the only name on the ballot) and have today declared Mugabe as President for another six years.

Here is an exchange from earlier - apologies to Jennifer for not asking her permission first, but no way to PM. Everybody is welcome - encouraged - to contribute their thoughts.   Read More »
I don't have to tell you who's spouting this tripe, you already know.

Some of them say, "McCain is American and Obama is not". Strange - Obama was born in the United States. McCain was born in Panama.

Some say, "Obama is Arab". No, Obama is half white American (English roots) and half Luo (Kenyan). Ralph Nader is Arab (both his parents were Lebanese immigrants).

But rather than pick up on McCain's being born in another country, or Ralph Nader's genealogy, they try to say Obama is two things he is not.

Now, a lot of people would say this is to do with race, but some of the same people have said they would happily vote for Colin Powell if he ran for President. As Colin Powell's parents were both born in Jamaica, I figured out what was happening.

These are Republican "talking points". So the people using these falsehoods against Obama are a combination of Republicans and rabid Hillarites who will use any old garbage to try to "punish" Obama for daring to run against Clinton. I believe if Clinton was the nominee, the latter group would make up stuff about McCain, and if Powell was her opponent, they'd make up stuff about Powell.

Most are not racists; only a handful are Republicans. The rest are just plain old sore losers.
Why do people keep saying they're leaving, then come back with a new user name?

Why are they afraid to let us know who they are?

"While these statements have some relevance to the intention of Congress in submitting the Fourteenth Amendment, it must be understood that they pertained to the passage of specific statutes and not to the broader, organic purpose of a constitutional amendment. As for the various statements directly concerning the Fourteenth Amendment, we have said in connection with a related problem, that although these historical sources "cast some light" they are not sufficient to resolve the problem; "[at] best, they are inconclusive. The most avid proponents of the post-War Amendments undoubtedly intended them to remove all legal distinctions among 'all persons born or naturalized in the United States.' Their opponents, just as certainly, were antagonistic to both the letter and the spirit of the Amendments and wished them to have the most limited effect."

"These statutes also deprive the Lovings of liberty without due process of law in violation of the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men.

Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival. To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State's citizens of liberty without due process of law."

"My friends, the Iraqis have divided themselves into these two groups for one reason and one reason only," Sen. McCain told an audience in a retirement village in Scottsdale, Arizona. "They are trying to confuse me."

Sen. McCain said that although the two groups of Iraqis are "well-nigh impossible" to tell apart, he vowed to commit U.S. troops to Iraq "for as long as it takes for me to figure out just what the difference between Sunnis and Shiites is."

"If it takes 100 years, 1,000 years, or a billion zillion years, we will stay there until I can tell Sunnis and Shiites apart," the Arizona senator said.

Sen. McCain reserved his harshest words for the Shiites, who he said were trying to confuse him by sometimes referring to themselves as "Shiites" and other times as "Shia."

"What's that all about, anyway?" he asked. "Stop clowning around and call yourself one thing."

Sen. McCain seemed alarmed when a reporter asked him whether he believed that the Kurds, the third major group in Iraq, were trying to confuse him as well.

"The Kurds?" he said. "Who the heck are they?"
Dear Melissa,

A few hours from now I will step on stage in Detroit, Michigan to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama. From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States.

Over the next four years, we are going to face many difficult challenges -- including bringing our troops home from Iraq, fixing our economy, and solving the climate crisis. Barack Obama is clearly the candidate best able to solve these problems and bring change to America.

This moment and this election are too important to let pass without taking action.

That's why I am asking you to join me in showing your support by making a contribution to this campaign today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/gore

Over the past 18 months, Barack Obama has united a movement. He knows change does not come from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or Capitol Hill. It begins when people stand up and take action.

With the help of millions of supporters like you, Barack Obama will bring the change we so desperately need in order to solve our country's most pressing problems.

If you've already contributed to this campaign, I ask that you consider making another contribution right now. If you haven't, please take the next step and own a piece of this campaign today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/gore

On the issues that matter most, Barack Obama is clearly the right choice to lead our nation.

We have a lot of work to do in the next few months to elect Barack Obama president, and it begins by making a contribution to this campaign today.

Thank you for joining me,

Al Gore

He was out there helping to build sandbanks in Illinois. I know he was already getting his volunteers to go out and help in flood-stricken states, but it was refreshing to see the man himself out there shovelling sand, helping people save their homes.
