Facebook post right after the election.
Last week, young Americans like you sent a strong message to Washington, which has long ignored America's youth. Following the election I was proud to read that young Americans voted in the largest numbers in at least 20 years for a congressional election. Over 10 million young people cast ballots last Tuesday and according to Rock the Vote, young voters favored Democrats by a 22-point margin, which was three-times higher than any other demographic. In close races around the country, you were the decisive difference.
It does my heart good to know that so many of you have chosen to be active in our political process. I hope that you find that being involved in the political process as inspiring as I did when I took time off of college to work on my father’s presidential campaign.
More than anything, Americans voted for the Democratic Party because they are sick of the partisanship, the ideological extremism, and the corruption that has impeded our path to national greatness. They voted against business as usual in the nation's capitol and now we must step up to this challenge and show them that we can be something other than the mirror image of the Republicans. While the full ramifications of North Korea's nuclear tests remain unclear, one thing is certain: The international community has failed to prevent countries from developing nuclear weapons, and we must act now to prevent a world of multiplying nuclear-armed countries and terrorists. Read More »

Speech to the National Press Club
Washington, DC
July 17, 2006
As Prepared for Delivery
"I come before you to speak about the future of America and our Middle Class. The two have been inextricably linked throughout our history.
I also speak about the future of the Democratic Party, my Party, the Party historically committed to a strong, growing Middle Class, a commitment too many voters now question.
Middle Class Americans know that President Bush and his Administration represent the privileged. They know that Democrats stand for those less fortunate, and proudly so. They look to Washington and see a government absorbed in self-interest. Who speaks for them, those neither rich nor poor? Too often, their answer is "no one." Read More »

The lessons learned from this year's midterm elections are clear. Democrats won key races and the majority by turning the Red states of the Heartland Blue. Indiana, which has voted for the Republicans in 16 of the last 17 presidential elections, sent three new Democrats to Congress. This was no accident â" the model of fiscal responsibility, tough and smart on national security, sharing the values of middle class families and valuing progress over partisanship has proven successful in my 5 state-wide victories and was equally successful for Joe Donnelly, Brad Ellsworth, and Baron Hill.
