A Teen's Opinion
About the Author
My views and ideas for a better America.
With President Bush's veto of the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) I decided to write to my representatives in the Senate and House. Here is the original copy of my letter. Tell me what you think.
"As you are no doubt aware of President Bush recently vetoed the State Children's Health Insurance Program. This veto comes as a shock to me. I never thought that any politician, regardless of political stance, would ever deny children health insurance. I recently saw in a press conference that President Bush gave on health care a proposed plan to increase the relationship between patients and their doctors. Well thats all fine and dandy for those with health insurance, but what about everyone else. I will not stand idly by while more and more Americans are denied access to health care. We need to ensure that all Americans have access to the health coverage, regardless of socio-economic status. The best way that you as Senators and Congressmen can do is to help lead the chare to overide President Bush's veto and to continue to or join in the Democrat's plan to expand SCHIP. Now is not the time for partisan politics (this is aimed at you Congressman McCotter), but the time for bipartisan support of the expansion of health care. I trust that all of you will make the decsion that you know to be the right answer in your hearts and minds."

Since the announced departure of Karl Rove, what's next? Will the Bush adminstration continue to dig throught the dirt, or will new blood in the White House lead to actual work being done. The departure of a senior staff member seems as if the President will now be scrambling in order to organize what little he can in the mass chaos that is the U.S. Government. Is it possible that Bush may not be paying full atention to what is going on around him? If so does this mean that congress may be able to pass bills without the President having a complete understanding of what is going on? If one of the top advisers in the adminstration has left, then who is to give Bush a complete understanding of how to proceed with important issues and events plaguing our country today. So what I want to know is, who is Bush's new right hand man, and ccan this country proceed with a new "leader"?
It has been far to long and I am sick and tired of our country fighting a war we don't need. With all the problems in our country, why are we concerning ourselves more with others. It has been 4 1/2 years too long and we need to take action NOW!!!! The Bush Administration needs to take a closer look at their Bible, "remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye." (Matthew 7:5) While America has been paying attention to every other country, the U.S. has been experiencing economic problems, unemployment, a stalled housing market, and a growing deficit. Every day we fight this war all of those problems listed worsen, and as they worsen our country fails it's citizens more and more. If we don't end this war now it will never end. The world is moving to fast for us to waste time on meaningless conflicts.
The U.S. is one of the wealthist and powerful nations, however we have one of the worst health care systems. When Americans can not afford medical treatment and must live their lives with chronic illneses without undergoing treatment. The U.S. needs a better health care system and we need it now. Health care is going to be a very important topic in the upcomming election, however we can not wait until January 2009 for action to be taken. Congress must act now to ensure that social security and medicare will continue to last, as well as draft legislation that will lead us to a new and improved health care system. Every American should have access to health care so that they may recieve treatment for any illnesses or injuries they may have. The health care debate will not end until this objective is completed.
Saturday the House made a move that signifies the beginning of the search for new energy. The bill enacts $16 billion ib tax raises for oil companies, as well as tax breaks for alternative energy and conservation efforts. Hopefully this is only the start of this movement and the House and Senate will continue to move towards more alternative energy forms.
With the fear of global warming growing stronger every day, why is it action to stop global warmings effects is not occuring? Gas prices reaching all time highs and CO2 emissions by the billions. Politicians need to stop worrying about reelection and start working on effective legislation. New Jersey recently passed legislation that aims to lessen CO2 emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, becoming the third state to do so. The United States congress must enact similar legislation if we are to preserve our environment and our planet. In addition to lowering CO2 emissions we must also raise fuel standards to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. I believe three things must done when it comes to fuel: 1) we must raise fuel standards, 2) we must utilize hybrid, hydrogen, and electric power sources, and finally 3) we must allow diesel cars on the roads in the United States. I believe with these three steps we will be able towards a better environment, in terms of transportation.
