CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Vincent Anania, the father-in-law of onetime Democratic presidential contender and former Sen. John Edwards, has died. He was 87. Anania, a native of Marianna, Pa., was the first in his family to be born in the United States, Elizabeth Edwards said. He was raised in Brownsville, Pa., and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He later attended the U.S. Naval Academy, where he played football and was selected as an All-American in lacrosse, she said.

EDWARDS RESPONSE TO THE STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Tonight, Senator John Edwards released the following statement in response to President Bush's State of the Union address:
"The president tonight renewed his call for an economic recovery plan. But the plan he and Congress have offered leaves out tens of millions of Americans who need help the most. This plan would take months to have any impact, and the people I meet everyday on the campaign trail do not have months to wait. These people are hurting now and need this help now. Over the past seven years, typical workers paychecks have failed to keep up with inflation, millions of families are facing the loss of their homes to foreclosures, health insurance premiums have doubled, and families are spending $1,000 more a year on gasoline. The State of the Union may be interesting political theater, but until we find bold solutions to the challenges facing the country, we will be stuck with the same old small, Washington answers."
"And in the chamber of the House of Representatives where the president speaks, even though this Congress stopped listening to him a while ago, they will still applaud and cheer him. The truth is that Washington is out of touch with what's happening across the country. Between now and January of 2009, Democrats must stand up to this president, stand up for what's right, so he does not continue to forget about the middle class in this country."

Edwards Honors Dr. King at the NAACP's King Day at the Dome Rally in South Carolina
Columbia, South Carolina - Speaking at the NAACP's King Day at the Dome rally today, John Edwards remembered the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and called on Americans to honor Dr. King by speaking out against injustice and inequality. At the State Capitol in Columbia, Edwards spoke about the Two Americas that exist in our country - one for those at the top and another for everyone else - and urged Americans to follow Dr. King's example and take action to build One America.Read More »
"I had the privilege about a year ago of speaking at the Riverside church in Harlem, a place where Dr. King had spoken 40 years ago. He had come there to speak about the war in Vietnam. And the words he used, he said there comes a time in all our lives, where if we stand quiet, if we stand silent when our conscience tells us to speak, that our silence is a betrayal. It is a betrayal of ourselves, it is a betrayal of the country we love so much. Brothers and sisters we can no longer stand silent. We have to speak out and we must speak out together.
"It is time for us to not remain silent about this war in Iraq," Edwards continued. "It is time for us to bring our men and women home from Iraq. It is time for our voices to be heard loud and clear. It is time that we no longer stand silent because silence is betrayal to 37 million people who wake up every single day in America living in poverty, worried about feeding and clothing their children. This is the great moral issue of our time. It was the central issue, along with equality, in the life of Dr. King."

Difference in Clinton and Obama - I don't see much of one and neither apparently does Jonathan Alter. As far as Clinton there isn't truly much difference with her position and Obama's.
According to Jonathan Alter (Newsweek) Obama started by being an organizer for Clinton in get the vote out for IL. On the Charlie Rose show Alter went on to say, that there is much about Obama that many do not know, that he is more like Clinton than any other.
Alter who has known Obama for 8 years, called Obama the "third way candidate" that he is one like the "new democrats". Do you know about the "third way"? Do you know about the "New Democrats"? Do you know about the connection to the DLC for both "third way" and "new democrats"?
If not maybe you should.
The "Third Way" was great for Bill Clinton and Tony Blair, and I think we all know Hillary is a DLC leader now. The "New Democrats" are a spin off from the DLC. SO, you tell me the difference in voting for Clinton or Obama? To me there is none, or not enough of one to matter.

John Edwards - CBS Evening News 12.27.07
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUdtaAFXuBs
Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Today, John Edwards for President communications director Chris Kofinis released the following statement in response to Senator Clinton's flip-flop on negotiating with Iran:
"Senator Clinton needs to be honest with the American people about her plans - but on everything from Iran to Iraq to Social Security, it seems she's trying to have it both ways. In July, she criticized those who said they would meet with the leaders of Iran for negotiations without preconditions, calling them 'irresponsible' and 'naive'. But yesterday, she told New Hampshire voters she'd do just that-negotiate with Iran 'with no conditions.' Now, her spokesman suggests that's not what she meant. But you can't have it both ways-on this or any other issue.
"It is very disappointing that Senator Clinton seems determined to hedge her responses on the issues that matter most to the American people. After six years of the Bush Administration's disastrous foreign policy, the stakes in this election are too high. The American people deserve a president who will tell them the truth and offer straight answers, not flip-flops and political double-speak."

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Today, the John Edwards for President campaign announced its plan to take a break from its normal campaign schedule of events and take the campaign on the road for three days, through eight states and 12 towns and cities, in order to bring attention to the 37 million Americans living in poverty.Read More »
"Everyday, one in eight Americans wakes up in poverty," said Senator Edwards. "That's not okay. Today, we have Two Americas in our country - one America that has everything it needs and another that is struggling to get by. Our next president needs not only to understand the struggles facing the 37 million Americans living in poverty, but also have a plan to lift them up out of poverty. That is what this tour and my campaign are about - giving them a voice so that we can build One America, where every person has the opportunity to work hard and get ahead."
Beginning Monday, July 16th, the "Road to One America" tour will kick-off in New Orleans, Louisiana and travel more than 1,800 miles before ending on Wednesday, July 18th, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, where Senator Robert F. Kennedy concluded his 1968 200-mile tour of impoverished regions in Southeastern Kentucky. The tour also includes a stop in Marks, Mississippi, where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. launched his 1968 Poor People's March to Washington, D.C.
Along the way, Edwards will meet with residents devastated and displaced by Hurricane Katrina and with people who have experienced persistent poverty in the Deep South, the Mississippi Delta and rural Appalachia. Edwards will also visit communities in the Rust Belt region that have suffered from the loss of American manufacturing jobs and cities that are struggling to cope with both urban poverty and the rising problem of poverty.

Check out his plan.
EDWARDS DISCUSSES GLOBAL WARMING IN SATURDAY MORNING E-CAST Chapel Hill, North Carolina – On Saturday, July 7, Senator John Edwards will discuss the need for bold action to stop global warming.
Read More »During his remarks, Edwards will outline the steps that he would take as president to cut carbon emissions and build a new energy economy. Senator Edwards has also set up a Web site at www.ReduceYourCarbon.com which outlines concrete actions Americans can take to reduce their carbon footprint.
John Edwards has called for America to embrace three goals for this generation:
Halt global warming by capping and reducing greenhouse gas pollution and leading the world to a new global climate change treaty.
Create a new energy economy and 1 million new jobs by investing in clean, renewable energy, which will spark innovation, a new era in American industry, and life in family farms.
Meet the demand for new electricity through efficiency for the next decade, instead of producing more power.
Additionally, the John Edwards for President campaign was the first to be "carbon neutral." The Edwards campaign balances the carbon emitted by campaign travel and the energy used in his campaign headquarters and field offices by conserving energy and purchasing carbon offsets.
In his "Saturday Morning E-Cast" series, Edwards discusses the challenges facing our nation and his plans to meet those challenges and bring about bold and transformational change in our country. The full text of his remarks follows:
"Let me say first thank you to everyone for joining me in this conversation. This is a really historic week in the worldwide movement to do something about global warming, to stop it. This Saturday, 2 billion people on seven continents will come together for the 24-hour Live Earth concerts, series of those around the world, that have been organized by Al Gore and Kevin Wall. Here in the U.S. , members of MoveOn are going to host thousands of house parties to watch the concert and take action to deal with this issue.
"This is more evidence of an idea I believe in very strongly, which is that the true power in this country is not just in the Oval Office, it's in the American people. And those people will gather in living rooms, town centers and communities for no more important task than saving the world.
"Obama Snubs YDA, YDA Snubs Back"
by: Matt Glazer (June 29, 2007)
"The 2007 Young Democrats of America national convention will be held in Dallas, Texas, in three weeks. The semi-annual conference of the nationwide members of America's largest youth political group is one of the most important youth-related political events of the year. With young, active Democratic leaders from across the country will all be in one place preparing to take back the White House.
John Edwards has signed on to give a major address to the gathered young progressives. Barack Obama on the other hand, has refused to attend the national event.
The Obama campaign, whose appearance in Austin was greeted by nearly 20,000 activist, most of which under the age of 35. Young voters, and many members of the Young Democrats have fueled Obama's early momentum. Now Obama is snubbing the convention, refusing to attend the gathering."
