Ramblings from a not so involved voter. My view on politics.

This is another reason why Carissa's fight is so important.
Take care of our vets. They took care of us.

I take online polls often. They seem to always want to know what my top concern is. I don't know about you, but I have more than one top concern. Our world (USA) is so backwards to me these days I feel like I can't just focus on a single issue.   Read More »

That’s what we all want when we head to the polls. More importantly, we want our vote counted correctly or we would not bother.

In the last Election (non-presidential), I was pondering not voting at all. I was convinced my vote didn’t count, or even worse, my vote would be manipulated. I decided to do a little work for the Dems and worked a booth at the State Fair. Interestingly enough it happened to be our current Secretary of State here in Minnesota whose table I was manning with my wife. I got a chance to hear him speak. His idea was not a new one: every vote must count. He explained that for our system to work it had to be impartial and we had to get as many people as possible to vote. The Senate agreed to this amendment:
"To express the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces."
This is what I get out of that: The Senate supports liars.
Because of his service I respect him. Because he seems to have little integrity regarding passing off fake stats to try and support a war, I am disgusted by him. I think the nick name MoveOn.org gave him is quite fitting. I would continue on, but I am far too pissed off.
As our troops continue their extended tours in Iraq (and elsewhere), I worry about what our military and our government will do to help them recover. The worst I had to deal with during my service was recovering the bodies of fellow Marines killed in helo accidents. For me that was rough. For these men & women dealing with far worse situations, I can not begin to understand the full effects on them. It seems to me that our military and government have little trouble dumping and running. It is my hope that we as a nation can show our men & women how much they are respected by providing them care and services they will need. Parades and talk are nice, but they do little to help when it is needed. I see "Support our Troops" all over. How about we get our government to actually do that.
