I am new to this site, I dont really know the in's and the outs but I really wanted to try and get the word out about democratic congressional candidates. I thought I could do one a day. So... Here is my first, his name is Rob Hubler and he is running against Republican Steven King in the Fifth district in Iowa, here is some information and a link to his site, get a hold of me, or his campaign if you want to help. I have no affilation with this campaign but am very hopeful that he can win. http://www.hublercongress.com/home.html
From Hubler's website: Rob Hubler, Democratic candidate for Iowa's Fifth Congressional District, says the incumbent is expanding his extreme rhetoric into the current national debate over energy. "Just like a petroleum-based broken record, Steve King's keeps repeating that the only answer to our energy problems is to keep drilling for oil, to do it as fast as we can, and to do it now," Hubler said referring to comments the congressman made on the House Floor Tuesday. "To him, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is his oasis that will bring us relief so we can continue to lead the world in oil consumption without any regard to conservation and keep ignoring the ramifications of its effect on our environment." "He doesn't know how much oil is up there and has no comprehension of how long it will last, "Hubler added. "It is just speculation showered with polarizing language despite the growing bi-partisanship over how to deal with the country's energy needs. When he asks the listeners of the Glenn Beck Radio Show yesterday that, 'if we drill environmentally friendly wells in the ANWR and no one is there to see them, did it damage the scenery,' that is just ludicrous. If we use his analogy, that means the ozone layer isn't being damaged because we can't see it." Hubler also referenced the incumbent's unwillingness to work across the aisle in Congress. "In three votes over the last week, Steve King was the only Iowa representative to oppose measures designed to bring relief to consumers and widen the development of alternative sources," Hubler said referring to the congressman's nay votes to freeze acquisition of petroleum for the nation's strategic reserve, authorizing the U.S. Justice Department legal action against member countries of OPEC for anti-trust violations, and yesterday's 2008 Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act.
