Gay Giraffe? Our morning paper had a huge headline that read Gay Giraffe...or so I thought at first glance...Turns out it reads GAY GAFFE HAS GOV. REELING. May as well be a 'gay giraffe' as far as Gov. Bill Richardson is concerned. New Mexico has been gay friendly for years on many levels. It is too bad the Gov. screwed up his chance to 'stand out' at the coming out debates. He stood out in a gay giraffe sort of way by stating to Melissa Etheridge that "homosexulality is a choice"...ouch. It's enough to turn a giraffe gay. Bill not so much. A bit tired and more 'sad' than 'gay' after this gaffe comes in on top of his use of the word "maricon" on Don Imus's canceled show. It is still a long way to '08. as seen at http://www.FRESHCHAOS.com 08/11/07

I am one of the Transgendered Americans
By Steph Aug 11th 2007 at 11:08 pm EDT
who would like to see attitudes change toward us. I am very fortunate in that I am accepted by my co-workers as a professional and they are very supportive. However, I see priorities. I would prefer to see Govenor Richards address the question of Debt in America than try to dig his way out of a verbal blunder. I do not care what others think as to how I am the way I am. It does nothing to help me and more importantly it does nothing to help the nation.

I love Richardson and when we look at his record on GLBT issues, it couldn't be better. He was asked the nature v nurture question which tends not to be discussed much outside the community. After he said choice, he said something like "I don't know, I'm not a scientist, I just think we should treat everyone equally"

That being said, when you look at his record on debt, it also couldn't be better!

GAY GIRAFFE?

What is your point here? It's a long way off to '08?

Like it, or not, the GLBT issue is a very difficult issue for some people. They struggle with their core values and morals. I blame most of the struggle on the way the issue was framed. In reality this is an issue of personal freedom. It may fly in the face of many people that just cannot get over their lifelong ingrained morals, but most politicians will say today that it is a personal right, or choice, for one to live an alternate lifestyle.

Why must we convolute the issue with biological and/or physiological criteria that most American citizens would not begin to understand anyway. I say it'[s a right, or a choice, and leave it at that. Am I wrong too?

I felt sorry for him

Gov Richardson is the ultimate statesman. His brain is usually 30 minutes ahead of his mouth but not the other night. He wasn't just satisfied putting his foot in his mouth he went all the way up to his knee. He let his real feelings show and then retracted it later. That is sad because it shows we must 'molly-coddle' everyone instead of being open and honest.
The GBLT(what ever the hell that means)is not without blame and should be ashamed the way they conducted the 'debate'.
At least Sen Biden, Sen Dodd, and all the republicans were not dumb enough to fall for the 'GBLT' B.S.
A special note to the GBLTs if you want respect you will never get it by acting the way you did during your so-called 'debate'........

I'm a Richardson supporter who encouraged Richardson to appear on the debate. I don't know what you are referring to in regard to Richardson's "real feelings". The mis-step wasn't about a feeling question it was a question of fact, testing his knowledge. But I really don't know what you mean by the GLBT b.s. (GLBT stands for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered) . How was the debate held in a way that creates disrespect?
