Should Local Politics be Partisan?

Looking into some of my area's local elections coming up has made me wonder as to why so many offices are partisan...

Why must there be decisiveness in local politics when it is completely unnecessary?

My sheriff is a Republican. My district clerk is a Democrat. They are both qualified and perform their job superbly.

Partisanship seems to hurt good politicians. Voters who elect straight-tickets on the ballot may miss better candidates solely because of party affiliation.

The Republican running for county attorney here doesn't even practice criminal law. He is a civil lawyer. His Democratic opponent does.

This doesn't seem fair. Am I right or did I miss something?

With the cost of campaigning

declaring for one party or the other practically guarantees some financial support.

differences in general philosophy, not as individual people.

Republican platform

Survival of the fittest, leave the lame behind, unless it's war

To each his own, and "getta offa my front porch before I shoot ya, I don't want to talk about" "Kablam"

It's all ours, why should we share? Unless we are forwarding our own individual self interests.

Democrats..

lend a helping hand and try not to leave anyone behind and believe in teaching self empowerment

they believe in knocking heads and negociating til the wee hours, until compromise, understanding and collaboration is reached.

We share, and consider servitude to those in need a privilage, we help with our resouces, and endeavor to avoid abusing the power to help others.

Don't be prejudiced.

You just stoop down to their level.

There are Republicans here that do this county good.

There are more Democrats that do it good too.

The differences of philosophy my be factors, but they don't necessarily qualify a person.

Your lucky if you have a choice

Where I live in central Texas, there is no Democrat that is even going to be on the ballot in November in most local races, and more disheartening, there is no Democratic challenger for my district's US Congressional seat.

True...true...

As a fellow Texan it bothers me that the Democrats in office here are the ones that ran unopposed...

Someone should run for U.S. Congress in your area, because that is a little beyond local politics.
