In spite of his hateful comments about me, I'm with Bill on this one. I shy away from any measure that gives police more control than they already have over us.
I read the link and it seemed rather vague to me in terms of exactly what power we might be turning over to the police.
Let' start taking back some of the power that we have turned over to the police and 'authorities' during the Bush regime. We can start with habeas corpus.
For one I am a pizza delivery driver, and two I am tired of getting ran off the road, and three my wife cannot even go to the store without something happening.
I have said nothing hateful about you, as well I do not want to live in a police state, but once I figured out that 27,000 people a year are dying I knew I have to do something. If the laws are working so great then why is there still a problem, so I think we need better laws and enforcement? If you do not like the way I wrote the petition feel free to write another one, but the instructions did say keep it simple. I agree that we do need to take many of our rights, but I do think that the road is not one of those areas when it comes to safety.
What I am against is the view that we need additional legislation to combat aggressive drivers. We don't. Increased funding, allowing for more officers on the roads and highways enforcing laws already in place is not a bad thing.
In many areas, aggressive drivers are an issue.
Florida, Northern Virginia, California or New York to mention only a few.
You might be right, but I have learned to deal with a problem from more than one angle, and I do not want to discount anything that might help, but I did write more than one petition that covered that. I looked at ratings for cities in those states at monkymeter.com, and even though it is broken down into cities not states the ratings did not look good.
What about the people who choose to drive in the fast lane while talking on their cell phone only to realize they need to exit the next offramp two feet before it is too late?
I admit that this is a problem too, and there are people working on it. I am working on a larger problem though, and it sure would be nice to get support from people.
