I just don't see it happening

As much as I have been trying to help breach the chasm between our two camps, and, yes, I'm aware that the wounds are fresh and still bleeding, I am not hopeful that we can close the wounds and get the scars to begin healing by summer in order to overcome the Republican machine.

In light of this revelation and knowing that our country cannot stand another term under the Bush Doctrine, I would ask only that every single one of us consider whether we would not truly be a better country for it if we were to push the party hard for a Gore draft at the convention. I know there are some who have the notion that Hillary could run as an independent and take the general election, but, that idea is totally unrealistic. And, it is not likely that Barack could take it in a three-way race, either, which would leave us with a split party facing McCain and an extremely jubilant, rejoicing Republican party rising once again from the ashes. I can see, in my mind, the Republicans, like the beast who was mortally wounded and came back to life, as in Revelations. It would then go on to take us into wars not yet envisioned by the more sane people in our country, leading us to total ruin and bankruptcy, and not just financially.

As for my support until now of Obama, while I would definitely love to see the programs implemented that he has envisioned and publicly announced, I am slowly, but, increasingly uncertain that he is the man to accomplish those goals. And Hillary's plans for universal health care leave me cold. No matter what arguments her supporters may put forth on behalf of that program, their arguments are filled with misconceptions and do not agree with how she has stated the plan is going to work. Hillary presents no other proposal for her term of office that delineates her from any other politician. Every candidate wants to have us believe that they will give us better schools, a tax structure that is more fair, a more prosperous economy, and a more secure nation. Yawn.

So, for my part, I will be doing whatever I can to make the Gore draft a reality. I don't care who he chooses as a running mate, though I would like to see him choose one of the final three that we had selected, including Edwards, if he would have it.

Now that's an option

I could go for! Great idea! 5 Stars!

Thank you RA. I will be triangulating every superdelegate I can in order to lay down a barrage of Gore draft proposals.

What was your MOS? I had 2: 92B, and 31N. OH...wait... maybe you were brass. I was just one of the regular pukes. *L*

Can't see it working,
By Michelle K. May 12th 2008 at 8:11 pm EDT
but I'd be open to it. Can't vote Obama because my conscience won't let me. His church thing was the deal-breaker. I think Hillary is the best candidate. I can't bear another 4 years with a president I don't like, especially after enduring it for almost 8 years already.

Great Idea!

While I am a Hillary supporter, I would go for that instead of being made to vote for Obama in the GE which I will have serious difficulty doing. Besides, If you ask me, it should have been him 8 years ago! Better late than never!

I totally agree with you and cast my vote that way 8 years back. But, I lived in Texas and you know how much influence Democrats have in Texas -- zip. I hoped he would join this process in its beginning, but, let's be honest here, having been burned as badly as he was the first time, being punished for the Clinton baggage he had to carry, it's understandable that he would be reluctant to run this time. His silence thus far this election cycle tells me not that he doesn't favor one candidate or another, but, that he's keeping his options open. If we come out strong enough to back him, I believe he will answer the call. Look at his actions 8 years ago. He could have continued to fight the actions of the court, and in time, may have won. But, he saw the division that the argument was causing across the nation. He did what was best for the country and declined to pursue the issue any further. That is the kind of man, the kind of character, we need, not just now, but, at all times in our nation's leadership at every level. He was not willing to continue the fight that would so divide us in order to take glory for himself. What better person could we hope for? He has foreign policy experience, economic savvy, national security knowledge, he's a VIET NAM VET, has the religious background that cross-over Republicans would gravitate toward (attendance at the divinity school at Vanderbilt after Nam), has awareness of global warming issues as no other candidate (like...DUH! *g*)...
I say, GO GORE!

Texas and Florida, both had Bush governors, both gerrymandered their districts, both have republican controlled legislatures....We have somthing in common.

I could

Senator Clinton is my first choice, however, I could totally get behind Gore or Edwards.

I'll take Edwards!

i hear ya...
By Deb Williams May 12th 2008 at 8:38 pm EDT
but i doubt Al wants anything to do with it at this point, given the climate.

the repubs would play it down as well, and shows us as a party that could not get themselves together and had to have someone save us from ourselves.

i do feel that Al should make a statement, which is not outside of the realm of possibilities.

heck, it definetly can't hurt.

it's gonna be alright.

If you could swing this
By Betty Lou - Independent May 12th 2008 at 9:41 pm EDT
it would stop the immediate plan the big boys had in mind, but Gore is already sucked up with the Environmental cause, which many don't buy now...since none of the Big Corporate companies don't have to buy into the Global warming, then neither do others.

But if Gore would take along any one of the candidates that are fighting to take down these empires of money houses and remove Big Government from the White House and insill the values back into the families...this would bring over a million more votes back to the table.

If he'd go for it
By Matt May 12th 2008 at 10:14 pm EDT
so would I.

I have begun
By Pale Rider May 12th 2008 at 10:42 pm EDT
I am compiling a mailing list of all the superdelegates and sending them all a mass mailing. this is a huge undertaking, but, I have plenty of time over the next two days and, considering the urgency and what's at stake, I will devote every minute I can to getting all the email addresses compiled so that we can save our country. I will do my level best to have this mass mailing sent out by the coming weekend.
This list may be available to you, depending on whether you are a long-time member here. To the newer members, I apologize in advance, but we have too many who are NOT Democrats and I will not allow those to undermine this effort. My country is too important to me to stand by and watch as the Republicans seek to destroy it entirely.

The intelligent person
By Pale Rider May 13th 2008 at 12:37 am EDT
leaves their mind open to the possibility that they could be wrong. They continuously examine issues from every aspect, deciding upon the validity of their stance. If new information presents itself, they consider that information and its impact on their opinion. If the new information carries enough weight and validity, the intelligent person sees it as their obligation to change their position.

Will you show intelligence? OR will loyalty blind you to the truth?

It may be to late
By Average Man May 16th 2008 at 6:04 pm EDT
Your idea concerning a draft Gore effort has merit, however I think it maybe to little to late. Because of the extreme defense that has been mounted for Mr. Obama in every area, he now seems to be the teflon candidate.
To say anything negative about this man get you labled as racist or just downright unpatriotic. Sounds a bit like the defense that was mounted for Mr. Bush during his first four years.

Having said that, it appears he has been given carte balanc to do and say what he pleases. His sweetie comment was out of line and totally sexist, but the general opinion is: It's OK, because Barack Obama said it.

Well guess what? IT IS NOT OK. We teach everyday in the work place it is not, now we excuse it from a man who may be elected the next leader of this country. Whats wrong with this picture. WE NEED TO EXAMINE THIS ISSUE and ALL CURRENT, FUTURE AND FORMER VERY CLOSLEY
