Civil War Fact
|
|
I visited Arlington while at Walter Reed.
A bit of history for ya all.
The land Arlington is on was owned by General Lee Custis. The Lee Mansion above JKK's grave was his.
After the civil war Lee could not return to his property and did not pay his taxes. The US government purchased it for Arlington for back taxes at auction.
Here's the interesting part.
Have you been there and noticed that soldiers from the Civil war from the South have a pointed headstone? They do. As told on my tour, "They are pointed because the southerns wanted to make sure that no damn Yannkee would ever be able to sit on the headstone."
Trivia for the day.
