Republican Mike Huckabee responded to an offstage noise during his speech to the National Rifle Association by suggesting it was Barack Obama diving to the floor because someone had aimed a gun at him.

Hearing a loud noise and interrupting his speech, Huckabee said: "That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he â€" he dove for the floor."

There were only a few murmurs in the crowd after the remark.

The Obama campaign had no comment.

who is a good Democrat and is candidate neutral. We have spoken of the reality of Barack's assassination by some idealouge. I know it's terrible to contemplate but there are many bigots who are thinking of doing it I would bet. I just can't even think of it...What a world we live in.

The way some spew hate at Party Builder even makes me wonder...what a shame.

While I was canvassing in Lexington a couple of weeks ago, I met a woman (black), with two bright sons who was just getting home. When I asked her about voting for Barack, she said she would really like to, but, was afraid that there would be some nut case that would "take him out" and she didn't want that on her conscience. I told her that I had also contemplated that it might be possible and could offer her no assurances that it wouldn't happen. But, back at the campaign office, the leader told me that a.) Obama's security is as tight as it could possibly be, and b.) Barack and Michelle had discussed it as well, deciding that if they were to allow fear to paralyze them, nothing would ever change.

(btw, she was the only person I talked to that day who was going to vote for Hillary. That means the 92% rule is holding true here as well.)

I have talked with people about this too.
I have had the same nightmare.
My thought is... If we can protect GWB.... the worst president we have ever had and the most disliked president... there would be no excuse for ANYTHING to happen to Barrack.
If it does... we question everything and look for the cockroaches.
We have the skill and the people to protect him. If we don't protect he and Michelle... I want heads to roll. No more magic bullet, no more assassinated assassins, heads MUST roll. We the people must not allow it. No more accept what we are told.
No more stolen elections, no more dead leaders.
peace,
marsha

We're all hypocrites
By Letitrip May 16th 2008 at 6:42 pm EDT
First of all, it was a joke and a joke about guns at an NRA convention and a joke that Obama was going down because he's a whimp because he's against owning assault rifles.
Here's the hypocracy spelled out for idiots:
People are upset by a joke coming from a repuke; but not that our troops are suffering EVERYDAY for 5, FIVE, FIVE long years from REAL AMMUNIONS and losing their lives. WTF. This is pitiful, screw your brains in, it requires little wattage.

its not about being a hypocrit - its just in poor taste and shows a lack of common sense.

some things you just don't joke about.

I'd like to say thanks
By VTDem May 16th 2008 at 7:34 pm EDT
To the great guys and girls at the Secret Service I say thank you for protecting Senator Obama and Senator Clinton!

Our party has lost so many good people over the years to guns. For this guy to say something like this about anyone especially Barack Obama is just plain stupid.

Talk about bad pastors!!

Republicans don't joke. They just laugh at what seems like inapropriate times because they are thinking about things like death and suffering.

Pathetic
By Spencer May 16th 2008 at 10:06 pm EDT
Big day for dumb Republican comments... 1) Michelle ad 2) Bush "misspeaking" saying "negotiate" rather than talking to 3) McCain ( who assured us he would run a "honorable" campaign glomming on to Bush's coat tails and 4) This pathetic attempt at humor from the wacky god fearing Huckabee... I wonder what God thought of that comment? Is is a joke that OBAMA will be targeted by the wackos?.. Not for me it isn't there is a very real possibility that someone will try to get rid of the real agent for change.... So here is the Evangelist encouraging them.... and the Clintons waiting in the wings... Sad commentary on a warped day.

Typical Southern Scare Tactic
By Democrat in Tyler, TX May 16th 2008 at 11:27 pm EDT
I am surprised this came from Huckabee but he knows that making a joke about killing a Black man is a typical southern scare tactic. Unfortunately, he did not get the memo that it will not work - not this time. This is proof the Republicans are pretty desperate and they are throwing out everything they can to scare Obama and his family. This is the same tactics used against Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King but unfortunately, this is what America must go through to overcome hatred and achieve equality.

Obama for ONE AMERICA!!!
