He seems to be on to something

He is really on to something!
Obama has a set plan to cut wasteful spending, a lot of which is on Military equipment and defense industry (Bush Cronies) who spend it very wastefully.

I am a veteran of the war in Iraq, and this truly gets my unbias stamp of approval. Senator Obama definitely has his finger on the pulse of national defense.

Do you think his aim is to cut spending, or to send a message of "peace" to other nations, or to turn us away from our stance as the world's strongest nation, or what? And I am NOT being sarcastic, I'd really like to know how people read this.

To cut our nuts off completely.

Let me add: He may have a plan to cut spending, as you say, but I'm not sure he has his "finger on the pulse of national defense." I think those may be contradictory statements.

I am very aware of all the excess in Defense spending. I believe that he wants peace.
And the best way to do that is to secure our borders, bring our troops home where they are needed and use diplomacy to solve any issues that might arise.

As you may recall, Bill Clinton cut millitary spending and we had a relatively peaceful 8 years in the 90's.

I am sure that Clinton will cut needless military spending too

Yes, but I didn't hear him refer to "needless" defense spending.

Thank you for your post, I had not seen that.

Yes. To put it a little more softly than Sandi did, I think I feel a little of that dreaded word appeasement creeping in here, (not very well) disguised as pacifism. I hate war. I want a world without war. But I want to reach that place from a position of strength, not weakness or perceived weakness.
