These are very sad days for the US and the world. There is no timeline for withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Bush is not changing his mind and the congress failed to stop him.
For me, (I am from Germany) it is very interesting to see the different reaction in the media between the US and Germany. There is a post on Dailykos by jedinecny on this topic:

According to this, at the same time the most famous German midday newsprogamm shows embarrassing video clips of Bush. They start today during the show with one which happened in the last two days. (Bush had pigeon shit on his arm during a press conference. He tried to remove it very fast. The scene, which developed thereby, revealed this embarrassing act.)
Today, the famous television station RTL (with the highest ratings) in Germany has done advertisement during their show for their own youtube-like site with 65 embarrassing clips of Bush.

The majority of Germans have negative feelings about Bush since he took office. In Germany nearly everyone was against the war in Iraq from the start. Everyone is waiting for a new President.

Please get the word out in Germany that we, too, are waiting for a new president, and that millions of us are working hard to ensure the next one will be a good one. Thanks, Alexander.
I want to say that most Germans know that Bush hasn't won his first election in 2000. But 9/11 changed everything. Our majority leader of the biggest party in Parlament (Social Democrats) said the day after: "Today we are all Americans."
It was an important moment and everybody had a unifiying feeling with the USA.
Then came Iraq and it changed everything again. The 2004 election was a shock for us. Since 2006 I think, everybody knows that the majority is against Bush and maybe more important against everybody who is extremely conservative.
We all know that the Democrats, the center-left of the people is working to get the country back on track. I hope I can help a little to change the direction.
