How are we still losing the foreign policy debate?

I'll give McCain credit for his service while in the Navy. I love to disagree with McCain, but there is no way in hell I'd vote for him.

What I don't understand is how after eight years after a stupid administration's policy, how people can keep that policy in perpetuation.

I really hope Obama's foreign policy polls bounce after this trip. I hear it's actually going very well.

Al-Maliki is an Obama fan. Who knew?

McCain and Guliani really looked like idiots standing there criticizing Obama's foreign policy ideas when they represent 8 years of failed policies.... already Obama seems to be making more headway diplomatically in one trip than the entire administration made in 8 years. Go Figure.

I especially like the way Obama is framing this trip: its not for him to assert pressure on foreign allies, that's the president's job "and we only have one president at a time."

Which makes me think there are a lot of people waiting with baited breath in anticipation of an Obama presidency and all the great potential it represents.

It is fear that keeps people voting for McCain. They are afraid of terrorism, of global war, of nuclear war... yes, that's right. They're afraid of those things. "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure," might be a good way to put it. A small war or two will prevent much larger wars. Had the United States gotten involved in WWI and WII at the outset, who knows how much suffering could have been avoided?

So goes their reasoning.

The problem is that they seem to have gone from one extreme to another. There's little in the way of discriminating between worthy causes and causes that aren't quite so worthy.

You're exactly right Arius, and those people (sheep) that succumb to fear are followers of religion, easily misled, live in fear, fail to take charge of their own lives, they follow the leader in all aspects of their lives, as they were trained to do. Blame religion, it's why we war and what prevents technology, education and owns our elections. Blame people that follow something they can't see because they believe more in faith (hidden) than reality (before them).

Part of what they fear is an irretrievable danger. They're afraid that a Democrat is so naive that even a direct attack on the United States won't be responded to, despite the fact that almost all our major wars were conducted almost entirely under Democratic administrations, including the use of atomic weapons.

They've been told Democrats are wusses for 30 years. They're too scared of the possibility that they've been told the truth to consider that it's probably a lie.

Gimme a break, Betty. If there was even the remotest amount of actual proof of your conspiracy theories, you wouldn't be relegated to Mad Hatterdom.

Anyone ever wonder why conspiracy theorists are most commonly found in flyover states? These people haven't ever taken a government class, much less been to DC, but they saw "Wagging the Dog" and they've read "1984", so they're pretty sure they know what's going on.

Yet, for some reason, you choose to believe them. Let me ask you this: are people inherently good, or are they inherently evil?
