Senator Burr (R) of NC told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell at the top of this hour that "not a drop" of oil was spilled during those hurricanes--an outright LIE!

"Hurricane Katrina ripped into Louisiana and Mississippi in 2005, destroying 115 oil platforms, significantly damaging 52 more and setting adrift 19. More than 7-million gallons of petroleum products spilled, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. By comparison, in 1989 the Exxon Valdez spilled 11-million gallons in Alaska's Prince William Sound."

More Republican lies!  Senator Burr gets my vote for today's worst person in the world!

(I've already e-mailed MSNBC to ask if they're going to report the facts or allow the Senator's lies to go unchallenged.)

been a recreation diver most of my adult life, I will tell you that the destruction of our oceans and sealife has been catastrophic and is just another example of what WE ARE NOT BEING MADE AWARE OF.

Yes, there has been catastrophic damage to our oceans, especially the gulf of mexico--which our country treats as a dumping ground for pollution. We are very concerned about what's coming down the mississippi as we speak, we have already been warned that the "dead zone" may double in size. In 2005 we had a red tide outbreak off the coast of west FL that decimated the local sealife--many believe that it was caused (at least in part) by phosphate dumping in the gulf. Now all of the pollution from the mid-west flooding is headed our way.

It's All About $

The Republicans who surround themselves with Oil Execs care about one thing and one thing only...how much money can they steal from the American public. So far they're doing a great job.

Yup. It all became crystal-clear during the past week, didn't it? The oil deal in Iraq, Bush/McCain/Crist endorsing offshore drilling (which won't affect prices for at least 10 years), and the oil summit in Saudi Arabia on Sunday all point to the same conclusion--that the administration of George W. Bush has one main goal--to control as much oil as they can for their own personal profit.

It is becoming increasingly dangerous to eat fish, especially shellfish.

We have fished the gulf of mexico for the past 30 years. Back in the '80s (when Reagan trickled on us) we relied on the fish that we caught each weekend to put protein on the table for our 3 young children--it helped us to stretch the grocery budget. I'd be worried about doing that now.
