The Fourth Branch of our Government

In case no one has noticed we now have 4 branches to our government, only two of them elected, only three of them have checks and balances. Executive, legislative, and Judicial, the first two are elected the Judicial (at the highest levels, is appointed)

What is the fourth do you ask, the Media! With all of us glued to the TV or internet, the media which is owned by global Corporations has more influence on our policies and candidates then any other influence. Networks like CNN are now global with no allegiance to our country or people, same for most of them just do not feel like listing them.

Freedom of the press, a great right but is this what they wanted? or did they want local and national publications to keep our government honest? When we hear about Britney Spears instead of Global warming or the pending Oil Crisis are we being helped? When the create controversy about every leading candidate to get ratings are we being helped? When they give away our troop locations to the enemy during a war are we being helped? I know the companies that own them are getting rich but are we any better off?

It is time for everyone to be accountable for their actions, including the press!!

We need some control here, but its a slippery slope. Damned if we do Damned if we don't

How do we fix this?

I have seen plenty of anti Obama coverage too. Even saw them taking it easy on Hillary a few times. I am more concerned about what the cover, always the worst things, someone miss speaks, happens to all of us everyday. Weeks of was this a mistake or can we read something into it, lets argue!!!

It kills me

Plus if you are going to have a political agenda then endorse someone and let everyone know your news is not unbiased

That is a FCC rule, I used to have my FCC ticket, that does not apply to cable news, it is not regulated
Raygun repealed the FCC Equal Time Provisions

>they had to award equal time

One of the very first Executive Orders signed by President Ronald Raygun in 1981 was one that repealed the FCC Equal Time Provisions.

The only good thing about CNN is Jack Cafferty, and I'm surprised he's still on the air. The Dobbs/Blitzer duet is absolutely ludicrous. And, don't get me talking about the morning crew...sheesh!

I used to watch CNN every day. I haven't tuned in since about mid-March. Their coverage of the DNC race is atrocious.

It is called the Fourth Estate

We have more direct control over the Media (what, to the founders, was simply the Press) than we have over any of the legitimate branches. One of those esteemed gentlemen, Franklin possibly, said, "I'd rather have a press without government than a government without a press."
We can easily say they have let us down, but they only give us what we demand. We demand air-headed content and 10 minutes of products in every 30. We demand our "news" be entertainment. We demand the voices be mellow and the faces be pretty even when the subject is not.
The web is now holding up a mirror to our failures. There is no voice, there is no face, only a barrage of information that needs to be disected word by word and checked, double checked, and triple checked.
Of course you can see by much of the garbage which is posted here, our own check and ballance system needs work too.

How do we fix this, you ask? By demanding the truth and treating anything less than the truth as contemptible. That would be a good start in getting back on the proper path. The proper journey in which leads to peace for all. However, guess what, there are still too many folks that believe that as long as the good liars stick together then all will work out fine. I ask you, is there ever any real honor amongst thieves?

It still is the truth, and always has been the truth, that will lead us out of this mess. Is there any amongst us that have the belly, or the backbone, to steer a truthful course for our children's future?
where ya been?

Just passing through or do you plan to stay for a while? Things have been pretty ugly. You might want to drive around the block before you stop.
