Iraqi Permanent Bases Already Being Built?!!!!

Thanks to Marsha - her awesome Bush budget post led me to the FCNL - Friends Committee on National Legislation - a Quaker lobby in the public interest.

Check out the map of Iraq on the Quaker website - it's too big for me to post here.  It is interesting and alarming to see so many bases already in the process of being built.  The funds to build these permanent bases are provided by Bush's supplemental funding bill.

Where is the media?  Stuck on the Obama/Clinton mud wars.  Meanwhile, the GOP is building bases right in front of all of us - not even quietly or discretely.

So the question of Obama or Clinton is a moot point.  Will we even be able to stop the military base operation in Iraq if a Democratic president is elected?  We can't know for sure.  But we damn well know that McCain WILL keep the base-building operation going....fulfilling his intent to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years "if necessary."  Necessary, my blue ass.

We have permanent stations
By Vidya Mar 22nd 2008 at 12:21 pm EDT
in many many countrie, dear, just to name a few, France, Japan, Korea, Germany too, that is where we built the premier hospital that our troops head to when critically wounded.

I am no advocate for war, but Germany is a free country, our allies and friends, and so are all the other countries, this doesn't have to mean the worst, I am not naive, there is an understanding that military bases are not an infringement on a country.

Nite-line did a great piece on three civilians from Iraq who want those bases, a female professor, a male doctor, and a former general who wants democracy, there are millions of people, women, who are now seeking higher education, without their heads being covered, or bodies in burlap!

This does not have to mean more war. Granted Clinton and or Obama would scale it down, but permanent bases does not automatically equate to bad.
Re: We have permanent stations
By Arius Mar 22nd 2008 at 12:31 pm EDT
Does that mean Hillary and Obama won't pull out of Iraq?
No that was not said.
By Vidya Mar 22nd 2008 at 12:35 pm EDT
We are not at war with Germany, France, Turkey, Japan, Korea, FiJi, Brazil..... etc..are we?
Re: No that was not said.
By Paul Thompson Mar 22nd 2008 at 2:03 pm EDT
With Korea, technically, yes.

With the others, we are not the most popular among their guests. It's just one more reason the world hates us.

We're the Starbucks of military bases - one in every sector.

We are an occupying force.
The U.S. should not be nation building, it is not our job. I did not vote to be an empire. This is about money, greed and power. Please don't patronize us. I can't believe you can't see what a mistake this is.
Did you listen to the NPR piece on the economy and the war?
Did you see the budget numbers?
OMG

"there are millions of people, women, who are now seeking higher education, without their heads being covered, or bodies in burlap!" uhhhm. Women could get an education, and didn't need to cover themselves under Saddam's rule, too. What's your point? Oh, never mind. It's Vidya!
Re: We have permanent stations
By Retired Army Mar 22nd 2008 at 4:40 pm EDT
Just one slight correction. We don't have any bases in France! That sopped quite a few years ago when I was stationed in Germany.

Otherwise I'm with you!

old news..
By Jon P Mar 22nd 2008 at 12:26 pm EDT
There has been a lot of media coverage about the construction of permanent military bases and a mega-embassy that's guaranteed to keep a US presence in Iraq for a hundred years.

Bush and his cronies are making absolutely sure the US can never leave Iraq, regardless of who is elected.

And all of this, about 10% of the whole story, is only the portion visible to the media.
Re: old news..
By Vidya Mar 22nd 2008 at 12:37 pm EDT
agreed, but in the past dems have made the best of it, and reduced the threat of military, using these as bases for the core of engineers etc.

So Kathleen
By Vidya Mar 22nd 2008 at 11:32 pm EDT
You know, I have a collectors first edition, love books.

Why is that you felt you had to change your name to some mythical character from Tolken's novel, speaking of foolish lies..

and..

How is that rascal son of yours doing? Staying out of trouble, I "hope".
Re: So Kathleen
By Blueberry Mar 22nd 2008 at 11:51 pm EDT
My autistic son is not in any trouble. How can you possibly being working with special needs children and parents with such a cruel and demeaning attitude?

Do you think mentioning my son will somehow HURT me? It only hurts YOUR reputation, if it could even get any lower than it already is.

I have worked with many professional over the years and have made many friends with parents of other chldren with brain disorders. I am so very thankful that YOU are not working with any of our God's special children.
Re: So Kathleen
By Damien Mar 23rd 2008 at 2:03 pm EDT
Vidya has some issues with kids, apparently. Best to not go there, people with those sort of conditions can be unpredictable.
since you have not figured it out yet...
By Vidya Mar 24th 2008 at 12:01 am EDT
No way is legal to suspend a child with autism, whether he hits someone or not, it is not legal to punish the disability, which is what you do when a you punish a child for misbehaving or violence, when the child has an emotional/behavior disorder, violent or otherwise.

either she is lying about him have autism...

or she lied in their little cruel and twisted group about him being suspended....

either way...Fed law prohibits suspension of a child with EBD and or Autism, but it certainly does not sound like he had autism to me. It is highly improbable and uncharacteristic for children with autism to become violent, very common though for kids with emotional/behavior disorders.
what is the problem?
By Vidya Mar 23rd 2008 at 11:07 pm EDT
with me asking ? Not that everything involves you, but if you must know, Kathleen emailed me regarding her son, and I tried to provide help to her when she needed it. I mean no offense by asking and if the reference rascal is offensive to you or her I deeply appologise, but really is this kind of weirdness really needed? I never meant to insult either of you, nor do I understand why you pestered me on my blog yesterday.

You never told me your son was autistic you said he hit his teacher and you were making him clean toilets. Which is why I responded to the email in the first place from the cruel, twisted group you are in. AnneK is the one who told me her daughter had autism and I emailed her my website page which served to help parents with children who have autism.

If your child had autism you would or should be smart enough
not to refer to him as "your autistic son" that is not an appropriate way to refer to people who have the disorder.

on anyone, you should have seen what she circulated in an email in the cruel and twisted group, it really concerned me, I had to get in touch with her to find out if she was abusive.

Uninformed yes...surprise, surprise, not.... but I don't think she has abused him, at least not lately, if he is punching his teachers. Apparently she was willing to circulate that about her own son to all the group I was included at the time, imagine that, not for long, that is for sure, ick.

I got in touch with her, offered her my help, and she seemed nice enough at the time, and very thankful. Why she is acting like this now, go figure, Arius too, what bug is up his,,,,,,,, who knows, who cares.
seriously, I was so concerned
By Vidya Mar 23rd 2008 at 11:37 pm EDT
I nearly called the Nevada Child Welfare Dept to find out if there were any complaints on her, but decided the cleaning toilets line was just crass humor, though using your own son as the butt of a joke, especially if he has a behavior disorder is really low. If she really did punish him, then she is worse than uninformed, that is like punishing a kid for having a disorder, never punish the disorder, though have always frowned upon all types of punishment and do not understand what value it serves. Consequences yes, but punishment no...

Hey, I think I have that email still in my mailbox should I show everyone how cruel and callous you are?
Re: seriously, I was so concerned
By Blueberry Mar 24th 2008 at 1:01 am EDT
Kristine, I am simply appalled by your words and actions. My son has PDD - NOS, please educate yourself on the disorder. My son does have emotional/behavioral issues as a manifestation of his disability which has led to the school district finally bringing in autism specialists for his Behavioral Plan and Functional Behavior Assessment.

I quit my job as a VP at an investment firm when he was 3 years old to stay home with him and try to get him the help he needs. For 11 years of his life, I have been his primary care-giver and advocate for his special needs. To ever imply that I would ever hurt my son is not only offensive, but just plain mean.

Just because you are mad that I called you out on your plagiarism, gives you no right to attack me or my son.
so autism was just a convienent lie..
By Vidya Mar 24th 2008 at 1:23 am EDT
pervasive disorder is another way of saying EBD.

If anyone should be appauled it should be your son, as how you think of him, speak about him and god I hope you didn't really punish him.. I wonder have any complaints been on you? You seem like a complete monster to me, certainly not the kind of "lady" who puts her child first, you were complaining, whinning, not showing any concern or compassion for him,,,,

you are appalled by me, I was appalled by you.

but was too nice to tell you at the time, at this point it is clear to me what type of person you really are.
Re: so autism was just a convienent lie..
By Blueberry Mar 24th 2008 at 1:31 am EDT
WHAT are you talking about?! You are so very wrong...about PDD-NOS which is neurological in order and my compassion and treatment of my son. WHY are you doing this? I have NEVER attack you or YOUR children, just called out plagiarism, as I saw it. WHY are you hurting and threatening me and my son? WHY?
Kath, I know what the disorder entails
By Vidya Mar 24th 2008 at 2:11 am EDT
and about the comorbidity with out bursts related to EBD.

and by the way they are all neurological disorders it is the etiology that differs. I can see why calling you out on your own bad behavior seem threatening, the email you circulated about your son was crass and uncaring, it really made me feel sorry for him, it's down below....remember...
so much for your "compassion"
By Vidya Mar 24th 2008 at 2:18 am EDT
you seemed like a self absorbed monster to me at the time, maybe I should have the Nevada child services to do a background check on you..... You sure don't seem like the "compassionate" type to me.... you seem devisive , and underhanded, you have lied to me and about me, and insulted me nonstop, no Kathleen you are not the compassionate one.

you are the one who is mad about having to stay at home with your disabled son. the one who swears, gripes and has him cleaning toilets..... All I asked was how he was doing, apparently it's Ok with him that you email your friends and complain about him.. That poor kid.
Re: so much for your "compassion"
By Blueberry Mar 24th 2008 at 2:32 am EDT
I joined this forum to discuss valid issues and the candidates, not to be publically threatened and hurt and lied about by someone.

So you can have this forum all to yourself. You can call social services. You can continue to post blogs about my Obama apple. You can keep sending people messages about me.

There is nothing to hide about my son or our family life. There is nothing to hide over any of my blogs or comments. I love my country. I love the Democratic Party. But I love my son more not to put him, although unintentionally, in the public eye and blog world.

you were really never a friend in the first place.

You can not lose something you never had.

but... I am not the hate monger here, I am just a person who was trying to bring educational issues on the table using a blog as a forum

If you think for a moment, I didn't try my best to deal with them as politely as I could you are mistaken, I am simply unaccustomed to being barraged with unfounded insults and accusations. Then when she was still insulting me here, for simply asking how her son was doing, she went bullistic. I am sorry, but I can not have this woman continue to go whacko on me, it had to stop. Sorry to lose your friendship, I have nothing against you, or Kathleen for that matter, Arius either, but am not a door mat, for them to wipe their feet on.

A disclaimer is in order before I post the link. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the information on this site, and I don't agree with all the positions presented by the individuals posting in this forum.

Also, I somehow doubt the "DemocraticUnderground.com" has anything to do with the DNC. (LOL!!)

My response via email was...

Please remember a kid is just a kid, and teachers are always nice
to parents and teachers, but not always to kids. Is it possible that
you kid has been provoked over an extended period of time? As an
educator, I know when a student has reached the end of his rope.

If he is has hit a teacher, he is in really bad way. What ever other
problems you have, I hope at least the relationship with you
kid is supportive.

After I visited the link
By Vidya Mar 23rd 2008 at 11:51 pm EDT
she appeared nice enough to defend hillary against tyler, who always attacks Hillary, so I emailed her...I have no clue why she and Arius pester me on my blogs, it was just a positive blog siting her plans for education, and all I got was insults from these two, this weirdness really needs to stop.

As far as you post, I wish you would wig out so much about the bases, yes oil companies suck, another reason why I don't like Obama

What leads me to question Obama's integrity and ethics....

Within the next 50 years it is estimated that two thirds of polar bear population will have perished due to melting ice and diminished hunting grounds.

The Bush administration has been dragging it’s feet to pass the legislation declaring polar bears and endangered species. World Wildlife and other animal advocates have been trying to get this done for the past 3 years! The Bush administration plans, and leases for drilling are still pending. They say that is not why polar bears have not yet been declared an endangered species, they say oil drilling up in the midst of their territory has had no know adverse effects on polar bears.

Now Scientists have brought a lawsuit up the against Bush administration.
Obama voted for Bush's 2005 energy bill that contained $6 billion in oil and gas subsidies. In 2005, Obama voted twice for Bush's Energy Bill, HR 6. It contained $6 billion in oil and gas subsidies.

Hillary voted against the bill. [HR 6, Votes #212 and #213, 7/29/05; Public Citizen, 8/2005]Public Citizen: ‘Reflecting the fact that energy companies helped write this legislation, the energy bill lavishes these lucrative corporations with billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies.’ [Public Citizen, 8/2005]

Thomas Friedman: This bill is what the energy expert Gal Luft calls ''the sum of all lobbies.'' [Thomas Friedman, New York Times, 8/5/05]

Washington Post: “The energy bill, touted as a way to reduce dependence on foreign oil or moderate gasoline prices, has been turned into a piñata of perks for energy industries." [Washington Post, 7/30/05]

If he self-destructs, due to his poor choices, Rezko, U of C, Nufarm, Bush's energy bill, United Church of Christ, good riddance. He is no environmentalist that is for sure.

Yeah, this should have remained private. Your bringing it to the open speak volumes about your personality issues.
Hey wait a minute
By Vidya Mar 24th 2008 at 11:08 am EDT
She was the first one to go public about her son in this blog, that alone was in bad taste, inappropriate and in bad form to boot.

Acting high and mighty, full of compassion, That email was circulated to me, I was the 12th, I found it ugly and vile to speak of a child in that manner to anyone, let alone think that way. I emailed her and kept a professional manner and then she asked me for my help, I gave it gladly.

I never wanted to hurt anyone, they have been pestering me for the past week, I only asked about her son so that she would remember it was me Kristine, the woman who tried to help her. I had sent her info on the stay put fed laws, she seemed so thankful at the time. I guess the fact that I am a Clinton supporter made her soon forget, and she has been pestering me now for a long long long time. When she started questioning my integrity with the kids I care for she is not only insulting me, she is insulting what I do, how do it and the kids I do it with. I find her hypocrisy distasteful and want nothing further to do with her.
Re: Hey wait a minute
By AnneK Mar 24th 2008 at 12:00 pm EDT
If you want nothing further to do with her, then why are you continuing to post comments about her personal life on this blog post.

It seems like you are unwilling to leave her alone. If I were in her shoes, which I am not, I would probably become quite concerned about your continued harassment and your continued mention of my personal life.

You should really just stop posting about her and move on to something else.
Re: Hey wait a minute
By Damien Mar 24th 2008 at 12:53 pm EDT
She claims she never asked for your help, and never contacted you about her kid. I'll take her word over yours. If you really are a child psychology student, your lack of professionalism and sense of ethics are truly shocking. I hope you don't make it through to a degree.
Re: Hey wait a minute
By Blueberry Mar 24th 2008 at 8:22 pm EDT
Since she is threatening to put our family through a child services investigation, I have no choice but to contact Illinois and make a harassment complaint against her.
