Totally Disagree Reply
By Concerned American 7 minutes ago
What was once the party that represented my family for the past three generations has continued to become a party out of control. The party has shifted as far to the left as the Republicans have moved to the right. I felt Hillary moved us back toward reason. I feel more comfortable with McCain (sad but true) than the Democratic Candidate. My hope, and I think the hope of many Americans, is that in the next four years a new party arises and we have a chance to have a working government again with candidates, at all levels, who put the people and our Country first, rather than themselves

Perhaps it would help if you sit down with a piece of paper with two columns....I agree and I Disagree. Then, write down McCain's positions in either column....

* 100 years in Iraq "if that's what it takes"

* Make Bush's tax cuts permanent

* Voted against providing health insurance for millions of children

* Supports replacing Social Security with private savings accounts

* Did not vote for the new G.I. Bill and publically stated that increasing G.I. benefits would just cause more troops not to re-enlist.

* Admits he does not understand economic policies and says he will rely on Republican advisors to "fix" the economy.

Oh, I could go on and on....but you get the idea. You probably have other priorities that you care about, too...just check out McCain's stances on those issues and then see if they agree with your ideas. As a long-time Democrat, I believe you will find one column much longer than the other....please remember that in November.

Sad isn't it
By jb1985 May 28th 2008 at 1:55 pm EDT
Really sad because what you said is so very true
Do we really want a total leftist in office?
Can we afford a prejudiced person in office.
Re: Sad isn't it
By Pale Rider May 28th 2008 at 2:41 pm EDT
jb, the answer to that is there is no such thing as an un-prejudiced person. If I gave you two bowls of ice cream, one that was vanilla, the other that was crap-flavored, would you choose both? No, you'd choose the vanilla. THAT is a prejudice. It may be common sense, too, but, regardless, it's still prejudice.
Now, lets look at the policy proposals of Obama and see whether any of them are favorable to only AAs, shall we?
* Pull out of Iraq within 15 months - no.
* Make health care affordable for everyone, not just the rich - no
* Reduce the carbon footprint of government - no
* Develop green energy resources - no
* Negate the Bush tax cut and give tax breaks to the middle and lower class - no
* Ensure that veterans receive high standard health care and enhanced educational benefits - no
* End discrimination against the disabled and promote equal opportunity - no
* Provide Americans with disabilities with the educational opportunities they need to succeed - no
* Emphasize education for children age 0-5 yrs old - no
* Reform No Child Left Behind so that it has the funding rather than just the mandate - no
* Make Math and Science a priority in education - no
* Invest in combating the high school dropout rate - no
* Expand after school programs to serve one million more students - no
* Recruit, prepare, retain, and reward America's teachers - no
* Create the American Opportunity Tax Credit, ensuring that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans - no
* Raise the minimum wage and have it keep up with the cost of living - no
* Commit the government to enforcing recently-enacted Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidelines on caregiver discrimination - no

and as you go down each one of his Issues pages and read them carefully, point by point, you will not see a single one that reinforces your argument.

My problem is those are all promises. What has he actually accomplished? I could promise all the women they'd look 20 years younger and men would have more vitality, I'd probably get elected!!!

Everyone has a right
By Democrat in Ventura, CA May 28th 2008 at 1:55 pm EDT
to their opinion...I just don't understand how a "Concerned American" can vote for more of this nonsense we have seen in the last eight years.
GWB has taken us to the edge in so many areas: war, economy, diplomacy, wire taps, torture, etc.
If one "loves" their Country, how can one support these things by electing yet another republican? When our young continue to go to war, when you can't afford to put gas in your car to go to work, when they start wire-tapping YOUR conversations, when RoevWade is over-turned, when Gitmo expands, who are you going to be concerned with? Americans!
Americans are paying a price for electing a republican who clearly smirks his way into oblivion.
I CAN'T and WON'T be a party to that.........EVER.

One of the issues is the rabid obamacrats who run down anyone who disagrees. You guys scare the hell out of me. I think both extremes are a problem, the left and the right. We need someone who can pull the country together from the center not just talk bs and sling mud. I feel the Obamacrats on the left are as bad as the nazi's on the right, and every bit as dangerous. Yes our current president is probably the worst in history, but our congress is also failing. We need to get back to action not lost in the rhetoric of the extremes.

I certainly was NOT trying to "tear you down"- nor anyone else. I think the sensitivity issue is showing again. As you have a right to your opinion, I still have a right to mine.although my rights have been sorely diminished in the last eight years. This rhetoric you speak of is a real concern-simply look around you!
I am saying that there are very REAL differences between the Democratic Party and the republicans, and the choice is very clear this year.
It's a shame that some have taken this hatred and belittling to the extreme---on BOTH sides.
Adding to the name calling or appeasing some who feel they are being robbed is not part of my agenda. My agenda is seeing the Country I love become America again.
Call any names you want- belittle people who have the same core values as yourself, and put another republican in if you want---But the blame will be clearly in the hands of those who choose that route.

I hope you enjoy Iran when your president McCain sends you there for the war. And I hope he sends you before he sends anyone who voted against the war.

Thanks for the love and understanding, open dialogue. Nothing like a free open expresion of ideas.

oh i forgot the obamacrats are against that too.

Perhaps also. . .
By Liz May 28th 2008 at 2:05 pm EDT
If you look at where Obama and Clinton are on the issues. They are very close.

Then if you can extend your generosity even a little further, try to wrap your mind around this: There are THOUSANDS of Democrats like myself who would have preferred Edwards, Kucinich or Gravel to EITHER Clinton OR Obama.

I suggest to YOU that if you think that Obama is a left/liberal, that you may have no business in the Democratic party in the first place.

Harry Truman had a quote for it: He said that if you give the people a choice to vote for a Republican, or a Democrat who is acting like a watered down Republican, then they will choose the Republican every time.

I want the furtherest thing from such a creature and my two choices are only a half step a way from each other, but I'll take the one that is the half step to the left since that is the best that is being offered.

I don't want a DLC watered down Republican. I want real change.

guess you didn't read the post. My family have been strong supporters for generations. My family had a colonial general in the revolutionary war. It used to be you could have open discussion in this party. It has turned into a disaster. If you want to quote Truman look at his policies. Big difference from where we are now.

THE PARTY
By Sandi May 28th 2008 at 2:14 pm EDT
I understand your concerns, I have them myself. This nominiation was chosen some time ago. If you say anything to the Obama people they will attack you. You are not allowed to have your opinion, I liken it to what happened in the Russian Revolution. The NeoCons took over the Republican party, and these people have taken over the Democratic Party. Howard Dean sent his alumni in for Obama. He had 4 years building up the political machine structure in all the States, this I got from the Obama Campaign Webstie, a portion that was not for review from the media or my eyes. I am sure it was just a mishap by the Obama Campaign. The rules were set for disinfranchising voters to no fault of their own.

Maybe this Party has been corrupt a long, it was my hope as woman and as a professional. Life shows you that you can be stabbed by your best friend or family member, we see it all the time. This is what it is.

Sour Grapes makes lousy wine. What really rilles up Hills supporters is that a "Woman" did screw up. She was fallable. No halos there.

She was out organized, out fund raised and out liked by men and women, black and White, Red and Yellow.

A Rainbow has only one side, jump on and we'll all get the pot of Gold! A fully Democratic Government. House, Senate and Presidency.

Bush-itt
By The One Called Goldstein May 28th 2008 at 2:17 pm EDT
Unless your are overcome with the kind of spite 12 year olds suffer from there is no way any real democrat could or would vote for McTraitor.

Hillarys positions and policies are complete opposite of most every Republican Position. Even when she re-adjusts to please a certain audience she does not come close to Republican positions. (except the stupid Gas Tax rebate thingy)

This is either Hillary and Bills plan to sway the DNC meeting with the coordinated chant of "We will defect."
Or its a Carl Rove Slimy Suprise.
Either way it does not belong in the democratic party.
So quit crying and wait for your party to make a decision.

Dear obamacrat,
I am not trying to sway anyone. Despite what you like everyone has a freedom of choice. If you don't like mine, I'm ok with that.

I try to Never tell anyone not to have an opinion. I just comment as I did.
If you want Hillary it makes no sense to vote against the way Hillary would.
