Open Primaries are a Joke!

Why have a primary at all if anyone can vote and manipulate the process? Democrats should vote for Democrats, and Republicans should vote for Republicans! Anything in between is a travesty of the voting process. The Republicans in Texas who are trying to alter the process should really be ashamed of themselves. This type of behavior can only be exhibited by individuals with little or no class - and certainly no conscience.

Just remember what goes around - comes around! You cheated to elect Bush twice - and see what you got?

Right on!

You got it! Republicans are voting in the open primary for Obama, because he is the weakest link and his voting record will kill his candidacy when used by the Republican political war machine. All those who want to silence conservative-moderate dems, you are just naive and many have now decided to defect to McCain, if Obama wins the primary. We know he may win, since the DNC fixed the vote and since Republicans are voting for him in the open primaries.

That is not what I heard. I heard they are voting for Hillary because they know that Republicans don't like her so much that it will motivate them to get to the polls in November to vote against her.

Either way it is typical and twisted. That is why Texas Democrats have the two step and a caucus. A Republican might vote in the primary but they would not face their neighbors in the caucus part.

Yes; and even here in red state KY, some Republicans are voting for Obama even though they can't vote in the primary for him. They think he's the best candidate, period.

From the reports I have read about Texas, it sounds like the Republicans voting for Obama there are voting for him because they think he'll be the best president---not as an anti-Hillary vote. They can defeat Hillary before the convention if she looks like the likely candidate.

Mike,

I read that one third of the Republican vote in Texas is strictly to vote against Hillary.

this has been going on through out the primary
By iwanttheturth Feb 28th 2008 at 11:07 pm EST
everyone from real clear politics to msnbc have run stories about it. Most of them credit Karl Rove with organizing rank and file republicans to vote for Obama in these primaries.

he also organized if you go way back to the very beginning, Obama suddenly got a 100 million bucks and his honeymoon with the press began- that to can be traced to Bush's own former fund raisers-

you know the republicans hands are all over this primary just like when they knee capped Dean.

Rove also suggested moving the Fla primary up knowing the dem would react- Dean clearly an Obama supporters has gone from silencing Fla, to offering to caucus - which the dem leaders told him to stick it to put it nicely to refusing to address the issue at all until they either support Obama or make no difference at all-

so we gave away the primary to the republicans picks and gave away the GE to Dean's arrogance- no way in this election will Florida ever go Dem, not anymore- Clinton was our best shot.

Had Dean kept his hands off Fla and Michigan Clinton would still be the front runner even if Obama kept all his wins.

So you know I think we have all been disillusioned by the party that we ever really had a voice.

The truth of the matter is that Democrats are lulled into believing that the Media is liberal - when in fact all major executives of the six main media corporations are Republican.

What about people who don't belong to a party who want to be part of the selection process?

The good has to suffer with the bad. If you want to vote "true" democratic - formally change your voter registration information.

for the super delegates. This has a long time to play out. Point is I think the super delegates have a very important role in the party. If Hillary does loose Texas or Ohio she should stay in until the end. If this is the case, and our primary has been tampered with, the super delegates will shift and make everything alright. I don't really care what the republicans do with the primary. Our asses are covered! Woo HOO!!!

Thank God for the superdelegates? Thank God the will of the People through their vote can be denied?

the point was, its it really the will of the democratic people or is it tainted by the republican hand? If it comes to that, then thank God for the super delegates.

I'm a decline to state voter in CA. Because the democrats have an open primary here I voted for Obama after Kucinich and Edwards bowed out. If Republicans want Obama to be our nominee so badly that they abstain from their own parties process to come over, then thank god for them. After all, we are all americans.

If Republicans can manipulate the democratic primary - they should be able to pull off greasing the palms of a few super-delegates.

I don't like the idea of palm-greasing super-delegates.

How soon they forget
By Arius Feb 29th 2008 at 1:00 am EST
Democrats came out in large numbers to vote for McCain in the open primaries in 2000.

What goes around comes around

Indeed it does. You'd think we learn that by now.

McCain would have been so much better than the baboon the Republicans cheated their way into the Whitehouse, aka Bush. Too bad the GOP didn't like McCain--instead they smeared him. That's the republicans--lie, cheat and smear their way into power at any cost!!! Shame on all of you.

During a press conference this week - do you know that that idiot President had not heard that the price of gas would soon be $4.00/gal? I couldn't believe it! He actually told the reporter that he hadn't heard that, and his response was, "I know it's high." What an idiot!!!!!!!

Republicans only care about power, not the country!
By Democrat in Chesterland, OH Feb 29th 2008 at 9:02 pm EST
Now the republicans are trying to manipulate our primaries by voting for the weaker general election candidate, Barack Obama, so he can become the democrat nominee. The GOP(U) knows they have no more dirt on Hillary and they are afraid of her--she's too smart for them and they know it. After they shred Barack, his wife, and all his friends and relatives (like they did to Clintons in the '90s, and the swiftboat disgrace on Kerry), they will somehow cheat their way into the Whitehouse again.

Don't they care that the republican party has placed our country on the brink of a depression? Republicans are either selfish and greedy, power hungry, or just plain ignorant. They would rather hurt the USA instead of letting a superior leader be elected. They just vote for a baboon as long as he's a republican. I guess they are just plain stupid.

Hillary has the brains, the experience, and nothing left for them to trash. GO HILLARY. In 8 years I will vote for Barack Obama.

I read your blog and I find you to be, well miss informed just like the rest of us. Our problem as democrats is the majority of us trust the media to give us the correct information. We are in a depression do to the failure of the banking industry, not one party or another. No offense to anyone who voted for Clinton, but he won the presidency do to his speaking ability! Not the ability to lead, he did a terrible job. My personal opinion he did far worse than Bush. You are right that Hillary would have been the best candidate. I mean for crying out loud, Obahma has only served 1/4 term and he has spent at least 2/3 of his time on the campaign...You want to see a depression allow him to obtain the title president!

you all have no idea...

The one thing that has concerned me over the past 20 years as a democrat is the simple fact that the majority of us have no idea what we are talking about, nor we don’t have the ability to think for our selves. Its ridiculous that some of you think the republicans fixed the election so bush can win. There is a nice saying, if you don’t get a handle on that brain to mouth thing you'll never fully understand. As I read this blog I realize non of you have a clue about what democracy is. You must all be lost college students who are keeping the views of their unadvised parents.
